The lapses in awareness/concentration James described seems to me more like a kind of mental fog, not really age-related reaction slowdown, which itself is generally overblown. I had a similar thing going on in my 20s and I eventually realized I had sleep apnea without knowing it. If you can't focus on things like a fighting game match it might be because you're having constant micro-awakenings in the night and it's interrupting your REM sleep constantly. Sleep apnea is really common among people who work at desks a lot because of forward head posture and neck muscle strain, as well as increases in body weight. If you take an at-home sleep test, you might be surprised at what you find out - I for one never thought I could have it at my age, height, and weight. With treatment you might find your brain working a lot better! It could also be some other medical reason, so asking a (good) doctor might help.
@UltraChenTV3 ай бұрын
Yeah, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea yeeeeeears ago. Having gotten a CPAP, life definitely got a lot better for me. Hahaha. Haven’t stopped using one since. So it’s probably not that. I feel like it might also just be a part of my ADHD where I can’t keep my brain focused very well. The meds have solved other ADHD aspects, but this one is still going.

I really doubt that less frequency balance patch gonna affect SF 6 future sales. Balance patch alone never been a major factor for the majority of people especially casuals as a main reason to buy a fighting game. They see cool design characters, flashy combos, cute costumes, and solid single player contents then they will buy the game. That's why there still plenty of people playing Avatar Battle in Battle Hub using TMNT, Baki, Spy x Family, or Monster Hunter costumes. These people are pretty much casual players who wants to just have fun with their friends or randos without thinking about balance or tier list. And the only group who cares a lot about balance patch is the competitive scenes which maybe around 2-3% of SF 6 total player base.

I play Kimberly, I think she is super-fun. I am not good enough to know how bad she is. Its fun going into ranked and practicing my anti-airs, counter DI, and throw loop/shimmy game. I am not worried about her defensive options because i am more worried about putting people in the corner and keeping them there. I am limiting my wins because i am not good, it ain't Kim. I hope she never gets patched and if she does, i hope the patches don't homogenize her gameplay with the rest of the cast.

Yeah. The easiest solution is giving her an OD DP. But I have a TON of ideas to buff her (don’t do all of them) that could buff her and keep her unique. I really enjoy her uniqueness, but do not enjoy feeling helpless in the corner and in Neutral. It’s a rough life for her. :-(

Corner I am less worried about the outcomes as I have your voice in my head when you responded to some asking in SFV what you do in the corner, "you die." Neutral at my skill rank is an adventure. Lots of interactions where someone is jumping and the other person is doing a DI or raw DR so we just kinda switch sides lol. I saw footage of Punk's Kimberly and while he can do what he does because he is Punk, it was inspiring to see him play neutral and stick people to death with st.mk. after watching I spent the couple days going into training just practicing whiff punishing with it. @@UltraChenTV I'm gonna be real James, everyone says give her back her invincible OD tatsu, but I don't think everyone is being honest with themselves about how much work she needs and that tatsu isn't going to be enough. They're more afraid of her being seen as "too good" or "overpowered" if they ask for more. Most of Kimberly's specials have no real utility outside of combo extension. Her normals are super stubby, every thing she has can get shut down by a crouching jab, and her teleportation sends her to the same place in front of the opponent, with the same timing on all three pressure buttons. Her run isn't safe or oppressive. Her spray can... Her spray can is too limited. And God help if you're forced to play any form of neutral. Matter in fact I'd argue that Kimberly's biggest weakness is that she has no real neutral of her own. At most it's literally a pendulum shift of "did the opponent slip enough in their defense to let you get a victory or did you get shut down?" Kimberly is an awesome concept held by fear, and to most players that fear is more important than her concept being realized. So her fate is doomed to be either a scrub killer or a egocentric pick (a character that's played as proof of player ability). Either way, I expect the pick rate to plummet and the character be a waste of R&D and development resources like SFV Claw. Shit sucks man. I'm just tired of seeing characters seem to be designed with a great concept in mind only to never reach it because the developers and player base were cowards. Meanwhile Luke, JP, and Blanka were running wild free to be themselves. I don't want Kim to be fair, I want her to be good. I'm not so far in my own but that I have to feel "smart" about succeeding with a super limited counterplay with her. Every match I have playing her, even if I win I feel like you; sad and stressed out. Kim is just not fun compared to others.

Great vid as always but I gotta disagree about the one year patch thing. I think there should be a 1 year MINIMUM for any major changes (obviously bug fixes and small changes being the exception). Modern fighting games come out EXTREMELY well balanced, especially compared to legacy games, I think the closeness of some of the characters can ironically increase the bad feeling for those characters on the lower end b/c the players might think "if they just gave my character 'x' they'd be perfect" more, which leads to those player begging for updates. But the problem I see is that players will ALWAYS demand changes too soon. If we listened to the lowest common denominator of player we'd have balance patches every month. I know you're advocating for more of a compromise, say one patch every 6 months (and in principle I'm ok with that), but personally I think 1 year is a good standard that I would I want to see adopted across all fighting games so that players have that expectation set. Again, bug fixes or small changes like the two patches we already got in sf6 would be fine whenever.
@UltraChenTV3 ай бұрын
Yeah. I don’t want frequent patches. I always say that post-Evo and post-World Tour Finals should be the goal for most games outside of really egregious problems. I’m just worried that we’re losing even the dedicated because they feel like the game is stagnant. Also, because the game is new, I think it’s a bit more pertinent to patch it. Late stages we know what the game is. Early on, maybe the devs didn’t even realize how strong DRs were going to be. We know so little so it’s a bit important to refine the game into a more fleshed out game. Again, I don’t want patches on patches, but two a year doesn’t seem like asking for too much.

Multiple quick patches for fixing bugs / glitches? Sure. But multiple quick balance patches in less than 1/2 to a year is a big no. We already had Tekken 8 and MK 1 as a solid sample of how multiple quick balance patch in 1/2 or a year turned both games into a big pile of mess. Because of that too, both games are losing active players very rapidly. Meanwhile, at Steam charts, SF 6 still have 24K+ active players for 24 hour peak and EVO Japan attendees record also showed SF 6 is far above Tekken 8 and MK 1. So your theory about less frequency patch can make the game more annoying and damage the playerbase is not true.
@UltraChenTV3 ай бұрын
Yeah, I don’t think anyone is asking for lots of patches. I keep saying two a year is perfect: 1 post Evo, 1 after the World Tour Finals / Start of next Season. 1 entire year can feel stagnant, and even an injection once every 6 months can add a lot of excitement.

Lol yeah Capcom "shoot themselves" in the foot when last year EVO has *7083* players for SF 6, which was the biggest numbers not just for SF but also the highest compare to other games. No esports games has 7083 players in one offline tournament, not even mainstream like Fortnite or Apex. And this year EVO Japan, SF 6 has *5089* players which again the highest numbers compare to Tekken 8, GG Strive, GranBlue, KoF XV, UNI 2, and even the goat 3rd Strike. I say Capcom and SF 6 at esport scene will be just fine considering Akuma and major balance patch to start season 2 are coming next month and they definitely will garner a lot of hype. But i'm not sure with other fighting games, especially with how fast Tekken 8 and MK 1 losing active players. The interest for both games at competitive scenes also pretty low.
