I've had the lousy experience of visiting someone at Riker's. It's hard to tell if the unpleasantness she's expressing has to do with visiting someone you love in lockup, or the incredibly dehumanizing process that happens first. They treat visitors like criminals. It isn't surprising to me she wants to protect herself from those thoughts.

Yeah except she is lying and the timelines don’t add up. While Tupac was in Rikers she was just starting to date Will and Tupac was engaged. His girl literally moved to be closer and actually was a signed in visitor every day he was in there. That was proven. Jaida is a compulsive liar and she is trying to use Tupac’s name to give her cred.

When Jada speaks about Tupac having charisma and courage, she says “It’s not a lot of people that have that kind of charisma and courage to just come up on me…” so she’s complementing herself as well as him, by basically saying she was so beautiful, intimidating or unattainable (or whatever it is she thinks of herself) that it took courage for him to even approach her. She may truly idolize Tupac in her memories but she also idolizes herself.

I feel like the other aspect of Tupac is that she's placed him on this huge golden pedestal of perfection, which isn't uncommon, & because he died young, suddenly & unexpectedly he never had a chance to "fall from grace" in her eyes. He didn't live long enough to hurt her, break her heart, or disappoint her. As time goes on, the more we forget any of the "bad stuff" and the more perfect the deceased person on the pedestal becomes. No one can possibly compete with Golden Pedestal Tupac. All others will pale in comparison because he can, quite literally, do no wrong. I'm not saying I blame her. It's very common. Only that, that might also explain why she's SO expressive, mind blown & enamored with him, but less so Will. If roles were reversed, no doubt Will would have been Golden Pedestal Man. It's just an unhealthy expectation that all living men will fall short of in comparison. I'm not saying that's necessarily what she's doing, just that it might explain why she's still so enamored with him & their relationship, whereas Will clearly pales in comparison.

Has anyone actually read WILL’s book? Because even he says that Jada wasn’t interested in him to begin with and it comes across like she never was. (And still isn’t IMO) The way Will puts it makes it sound like Jada was contemptuous and derogatory towards him when they first met and he talks about other things that have happened throughout their relationship that reiterate that. Will was the one pursuing Jada. She never wanted him. In my opinion, Jada started dating Will to try to make Tupac jealous and after he died she took advantage of Will’s infatuation and has been using him ever since. She doesn’t love him. She loves what he provides for her and she knows she’ll never do any better.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE for this analysis: For context, that picture that brought her to tears wasn't JUST about Tupac, who passed shortly after that pic. The other woman in the photo, her friend Maxine, took her own life shortly after as well. So seeing that photo and remembering that time is probably VERY real for her (which Spidey expertly pointed out). Then you add not being on good terms when Pac passed, there's a lot to process. Photos can like time travel...thinking about it is one thing but seeing the picture is a lot to handle.

Here's the thing about mental illness... We dont filter information the same way as the average brain and I have this growing sense that JPS stayed stuck in her teenager self and has progressively idealized her relationship with TS to the point that she's made it this fantasy which only grows in embellishments the more she retells her story. At the same time, she never skips a beat in making sure everyone knows that WS is not her ideal partner... She wanted the gangster, street smarts, charismatic, larger than life personality that was TS. She wanted to be written into his legacy and because she didn't accomplish it during HIS LIFE she's attempting to rewrite the story AFTER DEATH because the poor man cannot defend himself. Im also surprised that Tupac doesnt have friends or family from that era or even other women that could maybe shed more light into their true friendship. We already know JPS is a pathological liar... But it would be delicious if someone came out with receipts to put that woman in her place once and for all.

When TS passed away, he was engaged to another woman. It amazes me how JP seems to ignore this. T was in love with another woman. The way she goes on & on about him, breaks my heart for Will. He's been in the shadow of a ghost for 20+ years. He didn't deserve that, imo. He's a wonderfully successful, self-made man with a good heart. I can't stand how she has to rip him down, all because he isn't "gangster." I really hope he gets away from her ❤ Take care!

At the 6:44 minute when she's saying she had emotional intimacy, intellectual intimacy etc with Tupac ... Will mirrored this sentiment towards her in an interview he did with Oprah and to a lesser extent in other interviews. So its very interesting because Will mimics her quite a bit, down to the way they fake laugh where they're laughing but not really, they're actually looking to see if you're buying their bs.

The way she talks about their "intellectual" connection, and how intelligent Will is as well, it's giving me strong "I'm such a deep thinker, I need someone who can keep up and stimulate me intellectually" vibes. A lot of times the people who emphasise how attracted they are to someone's InTeLlEcT (🙄) are just trying to seem smart themselves. Just as with the "he was brave enough to walk up to ME", she's complimenting herself by complimenting someone else. I'll have to pay attention to that specifically, but I have a feeling that she tends to subtly (or not so subtly) put herself on some kind of pedestal. Like a more subliminal way of humblebragging? Sorry, english is not my first language so I had to improvise in some places to circumscribe what I meant 😅

I can't imagine wasting almost 30 years of my life on a dead man who didn't love me like that. Let's not forget that Jada's obsession with Tupac is one sided. He friend zoned her & married his actual girlfriend right after he got out of Rikers. Jada was hanging out in LA with Will.... probably trying to make Tupac jealous since it's that girlfriend that he asked to marry him right before he went to Rikers for 30 days, not Jada.

7:30 nobody could ever hold a candle to Tupac because not only was he beautiful on the outside but he was deep on the inside and he seemed exactly as she portrayed him. What a devastating loss that must have been for her. But as an adult she had an obligation to treat her husband well and I don't think she did. That's on her. If you can't make a marriage with Will Smith work passably, you got issues 😆

Hey Spidey, thank you for this video and for always reminding us to be kind. I went from being a fan of Jada to not liking a lot of the stuff she's done but one thing I feel we cannot deny is that what she felt there was real grief. Tupac is the one that got away for her, she's looking back fondly at the memories while I feel that with Will the reason she doesn't do that is because he's still alive and well. We as human tend to suddenly romanticizes those that have passed away, there is no negative points or flaw, maybe that's why we say "Don't speak ill of the dead." I felt sympathy for her and appreciated the fact that the interviewer held space by hugging her and in a way blocking her from the camera so that she could have her moment to grief for what she's lost.

When Jada starts crying when she sees the photo, I also feel it's genuine, but the reason for these emotions doesn't have to have anything to do with the people in the picture. Maybe she remembers the time and it was all so exciting back then and she was young and her life path was still open... because I find it strange that she puts the photo on the table so quickly with one quick movement. When I see loved ones in a photo, I cherish that photo, that piece of paper. I have the feeling that at that moment she is mourning something else and that she is bitter.

Thank you Spidey, for sharing your thoughts and insights. I appreciate your compassion and critical thinking. Jada wrote that in her earlier life she never wanted to appear vulnerable so you’re right about that. Before Tupac died, he and Jada had an argument and never made up. She met him in high school when he was dirt poor (with barely any clothing) so she bought him clothes and devised ways to give them to him in such a way that allowed him to accept her gifts without embarrassment. Later, when she needed help he was there for her, so they formed a huge bond. Her comment about how we wouldn’t care about some beefs etc. we have on our deathbed helped me too. I doubt if a narcissist would have the ability to be such a deep thinker.

I am very impressed you caught the contempt. I passively missed it, but when you showed the freeze frame, I was like whoah yeah thats contempt all right lol. I think, and I may be off here, but I think not only does she have contempt for Will, but I personally feel like this contempt comes from a place of jealousy. She is jealous of his success and the way things just simply go right for him and how he fits in anywhere. I'm guessing she has to work hard at it and people don't like her work, dont like her personality, dont want to give her attention and that I think is what creates this jealousy that later turns into anger and contempt. I also noticed that when talking about Will, she slows down 5 times more than when talking about 2 Pac. She starts oicking her words more carefully and searching for the best word instead of talking freely. I think Will and her have gotten in some nasty fights about her saying something about him and is almost scared to say the wrong word because she is afraid of upsetting Will and I also think Will is personable and thoughtful when speaking so when talking about him she has adopted his own mannerisms in speaking carefully. Just my thoughts.

So I don't really know exactly what their relationship was other that what Jada says. But speaking of very interesting body language and use of voice and facial expressions, Tupac would be a really good one to study especially in chronological order. I saw his demeanor change from youth to early adulthood pretty drastically (at least in that documentary) almost to where he seemed like 2 totally different people and i have 3 theories as to why. I'd be curious to see your take! Thanks for the videos!!

She's aware of everyone else being angry at her contempt for him and is trying to make amends. Not because she feels any care for him, but because she wants people to not be angry at her anymore. She still can't stand him. Its more irritating to see her trying to manipulate all of us. She has no respect for her husband. She married him for money and fame and has hatred him for needing him. This happens very often. And she does it also very often, in almost every interview.) As you said, usually when we cry we try to hide ourselves instinctively... not only in gestures but also globally - but for her it's almost like an item on the agenda even if it looks and maybe feel very naturally.. in my opinion she in purpose emphasizes this emotion everry time.

You compared the way that Jada told the story about Will calling her after his divorce in two different interviews. I couldn’t help but compare both to the way she talked about meeting Tupac. She was clearly impressed with Tupac being bold enough to approach and speak with her. I was not at all sure that she felt similarly about Will’s confident approach. And rightfully, so, perhaps. It was more than a little presumptuous to say “you’re seeing me.” As if she could have no possible objection. So when I heard the first version in the interview, you focused on this video, I heard the clutching pearls part, and assumed that she was not favorably impressed with it. It almost surprised me that she had, in fact, called him when she got back to LA. Because in the circles where I travel, clutching pearls is something you do when someone is behaving in an uncouth or ill-advised manner, socially. I suppose there must be other ways of using the idiom? What is your experience with it previously? It was only after seeing the People interview where it occurred to me that she was trying to suggest that she found his boldness, attractive, as she had found Tupac’s assertive self-introduction impressive. But… it’s still hard for me to buy it. To me, it seems she was distancing herself from that idea by saying that laying his claim that way “could be a little sexy,״ rather than stating out that she *did* find it sexy. In other words, it seems to me like she’s trying to have it both ways. She doesn’t want to alienate people who admire her husband, by suggesting that his advances were kind of oafish, but she took pity on him. But I think the wording kind of leaves that emotional response available just below the surface. I can’t point out what makes me think so, but it still reads as a kind of contempt to me. And if she owned it, frankly, maybe it wouldn’t bother me so much. Because, as I said, she he would not be the only one who finds the braggadocio appeal to be less than appealing.

For me this video is a great example of people quite often don't understand themselves and can be so narrow minded that they find ways to justify how they express themselves. No matter how far back they step that narrow lens blocks their view of how they are seen by the world

I put in a comment about the clutching pearls thing, and then finished watching the video, and was struck by the notion that clutching pearls is kind of the ultimate defending the neck gesture. So applying your description of such gestures, as indicative of vulnerability, that presents a couple different explanations. Maybe Jada felt vulnerable because she found will attractive in his assertiveness. But she could also have felt vulnerable because the assertive approach undermines the sense of control that can make a new relationship seem acceptably safe. Anyway, I do appreciate your consistent intention and practice of considering people that you analyze as whole human people, rather than villains/demons, or heroes/angels. I haven’t really watched a lot on this subject, but I tend to agree with the things that you’ve said about it so far. And I do appreciate the reminder that, well, she may not always be above board in her relationships, she is a human being with real feelings and brokenness that deserves consideration.

What a fantastic analogy at ~34 minutes about seeing *only* what we look for.

Thank you for staying objective about this topic. We tend to throw stones when our relationships are just as toxic. WE DONT KNOW THE DYNAMIC OF THEIR RELATIONSHIP. WE DON'T!! So, to hate this woman over the "things" she did to Will is ridiculous. He could divorce her but stay. Why?? He mentioned cheating on BOTH wives and abandoning his son. Failing the women in his life. Will is not a victim. In my opinion, if you hate this woman due to writing the story of her life....telling her truth. Then, you might have a mental illness. She needs help with healing from her past not hate.

Hello Spidey, There is a lot to unpack here. Thank you.. .. I'll have to come back tomorrow -its late, (currently). More importantly, the grief at the end, really affected me. I'm still mourning the death of my 1st child and only son. So, I'll be back tomorrow. P.S. You are balanced and do what you do very well. No bias

Pretty much her entire description of Will Smith when she met him she pretty much choked out of him throughout the years. It’s like she’s mapping out her strategy to burst all his bubbles. I mean, who wants to be happy all the time!? It’s much better to be miserable and “intellectual”. She’s so high up in her high horse looking down on Simple Willy and his big dreams. Omg she’s a monster.

I’m actually crying at how Jada tried so hard not to cry as she explained her experience when talking about going to see Tupac in Rykers. I’ve never seen her react like that, because I saw early on how Jada acted to everything with contempt, judgement, gaslighting, treating Will horribly by disrespecting his feelings over and over, and I’ve seen she had very narcissistic characteristics flavour to how she normally acts towards people, which I despise, so I will not watch anything about that particular person after finding them being any sort of Narcissistic. I’ve heard that Rykers is THE most horrific prison for many reasons, and can only imagine what it would have been like in there for anyone. My question now is is Jada feeling her own feelings about being in Rykers and how she was treated herself, or feeling how Tupac must have/was feeling being in there. Was she sad for herself or Tupac? If she was sad for herself, and not Tupac, the narcissistic characteristic is there. If she was feeling sad for Tupac, it wasn’t necessarily there. We will never know. Thanks for a great breakdown of Jada Spidey! ❤

She probably didn't visit him there. The timeline doesn't fit. The Sidley Twins explain it very well in their latest video.
