Yeah, I think they're probably gonna keep Spyro's design. And if they do change it, I doubt it'd be anything drastic. Nicholas Kole and the other designers did an amazing job on both Spyro and Crash's new designs, I think the Spyro one is probably here to stay

I would genuinely be upset if they changed his design at all. It would feel like they just gave us a faithful design only to change it in a “sequel” to the trilogy /; That’s just my opinion. It would feel completely ridiculous to have redesign all of the characters in Spyro, only to do it AGAIN... Crash’s N. Sane trilogy was nearly an HD remaster, while Spyro Reignited trilogy was far more on the remakes side of things.

And maybe as a nod to Hero’s Tail, rather than killing him he could be taken captive and have that play into Spyro 5 sort of like what happened in Shadow Legacy? Not as direct remakes, but similar in terms of SOME plot points throughout the game(s)?

I get that confusing the market is a real thing, but it’s still sad that they couldn’t have made the statue of Spyro and Cynder PRE Skylanders when Dawn of the Dragon was still the newest game with Spyro’s name attached... EDIT : if there are throwback classic Crash statues as mentioned in the video, why not do the same for Spyro and label them specifically as a throwback not as the modern Spyro? And in the THROWBACK lines of Spyro merch could be Legend Trilogy stuff, Skylanders stuff, and stuff based on the other PRE Legend Trilogy games ETD (if it had been finished), Hero’s Tail (maybe a statue of the Ferocious Five - the 5 playable characters - or the Dragon Elders or a diorama of a level or an epic fight ether with Red or one of the other bosses, Inneptune and Gnasty Gnorc) & Shadow Legacy (see my notes on Hero’s Tail)

Big fan of the current spyro model, I suspect stuff will change alittle (keeping it fresh perhaps) The merch is such a huge indication that spyro is getting something to me. That or spyro fans have a far higher demand then crash fans.

Same! My running theory is that it probably has something to do with the magic inside of baby/young dragons vs older dragons. Maybe their flight is sustained through channeling magic? If the magic in the younger ones is weaker, it explains the no flight, not being targeted to be crystalized, and the second game’s easy nabbing of Spyro (it’s likely another, older dragon could’ve been traveling in a portal, too, after all).

Crash 4 was on a different engine than the remakes, but Spyro Reignited Trilogy shares Crash 4's UE 4. According to this statement, if Spyro 4 will be in UE 4 too, those designs could remain unchanged.

Confusing the marketplace is a real worry that companies have before releasing merch. I remember when people got confused about all of the different Zelda amiibos, about who was who, and what each did for certain games. To any Zelda fan/collector this was a dream, but to the average grandma just trying to buy a birthday present it can look very confusing and complicated. I also remember the high praise Activision got for Spyro’s redesign. I doubt they would change him if their market research approved him so well. I hope it becomes his official design, like how Mario and Rayman have barely changed over the years.

well, Activision used a different engine for Crash Bandicoot 4 than the N Sane Trilogy, so that engine would be the definitive engine for its 2 cartoon characters, but Spyro Trilogy didn't use the engine from N Sane trilogy, Spyro Trilogy has the same engine as the Crash 4, that means that Spyro in the trilogy already has its final design and that it already has the aesthetics that was used in Crash 4

Id be ok with it like a power up gate. That would be pretty cool with like a dark breath thats used in areas that require lights and torches to be snuffed out to see things in the dark, or harm light based enemies (like a Gnorc in silly "Holy Armor" that makes them impervious to normal attacks)

The design of crash in crash 4 has been changed, mostly to give better detail of the character model. Which looks good for the newer game. Of course it'll be the same situation on spyro. Plus, it'll be on the next generation consoles (plus pc of course) and it'll most likely be in 4k. And HDR too if the developers wants it to have HDR. If the character model looks somewhat different, then so be it. Changes happens in life that we don't like, but sometimes we all just have to deal with it and accept it

I 'm still open-minded for a brand new redesign of Spyro the Dragon! :D And I think Spyro the Dragon 's heroic friends deserve a new makeover too such as Elora, Bianca Hunter ,and even Sergtant Byrd too for examples ! :D

I thing aging Spyro would be a good idea, my initial thought as a kid was that by the end of the game I'd be able to fly but it doesn't pan out that way. Not saying permenantly old or flying, but if he was a bit older he could be more powerful and have different moves than charge, flame, glide, move/ spit objects. Hell maybe to add to an eventual crossover game there could be other dimensions along with Crash and Ratchet

Crash n sane trilogy is definitely a unique beast of a remaster collection. It just worked out VV was able to make it while they still did. If that was to only happen now under blizzard’s ownership, I don’t know how that would’ve turned out honestly. Lol

If you look at Crash Bandicoot 4's artbook Spyro's design has been changed a bit.

You can't really compare Spyro 4 to Crash 4 on the design question. Both Spyro and new Crash are gen one Nicholas Kole design. Spyro DID recieve a redesign already. The only way they'd change his design is if they wanted to make him older.

I think they might stick with the Reignited design, especially if Toys For Bob is developing this game. It might also help it tag along with their version of the Crash Bandicoot characters.

I think you omitted something I personally consider important as well as the joint design of both It's About Time and Reignited: the engines Let me explain: the N Sane Trilogy, as well as CTR Nitro, was designed on the Crytek Engine in counterpart to Reignited Trilogy and It's About Time which were designed on Unreal Engine (the very logo of which appears on the initial loading screens of Reignited); since, allegedly, Activision retired the Crytek Engine after CTR. So the engine switch from Crytek to Unreal (obviously) meant that TFB had to designed Crash, Spyro, and their respective original gangs from scratch Which raises the question: why would Activision order a redesign of Spyro for Unreal if they already have one

One thing that I noticed that wasn’t in your video is that Crash N Sane Trilogy wasn’t done on the unreal engine but Crash 4 was done on the unreal engine like Spyro. Since Spyro 4 will most likely be done on the Unreal Engine it is most likely the developers won’t have to change designs and models. In my opinion Spyro will most likely stay the same but with a chance of a few minor differences but not an overhaul like Crash

Even if it does turn out to be Beenox developing the game, I hope they keep the TFB Reignited designs because Nick Kole, Rob Duenas, and the rest of the artists did a spectacular job with the designs! As far as I'm concerned, this is *the* definitive look for the characters. 😉

It be funny if for Sypro, they pulled a reverse crash. Crash went from realistic sort of to toys for Bob version, so Spyro could do the reverse lol. That would be interesting

From the classic Spyro 1 to 2 and 3 I always thought Spyro was 'aging' to fit his sudden design change in the 2 game. TBH I liked the jump in his design from the classic games bc it showed Spyro was, in a sense, growing up a little and maturing from his younger years where he wanted to torch Gnasty Gnorc. He still kept that playful childish antics with Ripto's Rage, and even showed some aggression towards anyone who hurt his friends while snarking at them. Eh, I don't know, I just appreciated the little things they've done back then and the things they're doing now. I don't want his design to change too much but I think I can get used to it and probably like it bc so far the choices for Spyro have been positive.

yeah now that you mention it Crash4 design is very similar to Spyro Reignited, not exact of course but pretty dang close. That could be on purpose both for ease of artists bouncing between projects but also potential crossover games. But imo the largest reason they wouldnt change the design of Spyro is ... why? The design is great, is already built for Unreal (Crash N-Sane was not). needlessly changing the artstyle so quickly is just going to cause a lot of extra work because now you pretty much cant reuse ANY art assets.

Well since they redisign Crash for the 4th game and kept the voice actor original, I think that'll be the same for Spyro so yes, Spyro might get a redesign

Fully agree - besides, Spyros design technically ALREADY had an overhaul with Reignited with the addition of the thumbs and the minor darker spotted scale patterning. It's already solidified at this point I feel, the only way I believe they would "change" the design is if they made adult Spyro canon, specifically the design that was created for fun by one of the artists that inspired fanart for many others

Toys for Bob always gets the biggest budget. It was due to the reputation of Paul Reiche when he was still there, as well as the success the studio brought Activision through _Skylanders_ .

in a few months or maybe a year im going to be getting a ps5. When they are available and have more money. But where does that leave with my ps4. Well I am going to be generous Im going to give it to someone. Someone that has been with me for my young life. We have made some decisions that could have been bad but i accept whatever choices he made. He deserves this and that person is my younger self. The greatest present I would give my younger self is my ps4. With crash insane trilogy, crash nitro fuelled, crash 4 , spyro reignited trilogy, ratchet and clank 2016, oddworld new n tasty, and rayman legends. Enjoy my friend and dont try to be too cool to the kids at the playground
