I remember sitting down and reading the director's commentary for The Simpson's Movie and as a fan of The Simpsons do NOT fucking do that. It seriously damaged my perspective on the writers as they stated they wanted test audiences (compromised of completely random people not Simpsons Fans) to stand up and cheer upon first seeing a Simpson's character and when they didn't the writers freaked out. They then decided to make The Simpsons Movie appeal to people who had never seen the show before at all (which lead to replacing the Milhouse and Lisa romance with Lisa and Collin who disappears after the movie because audiences who had never seen the show wouldn't recognize the story behind them). They then said blatantly that writing wise they realized the movie doesn't actually make sense but they hoped in editing they could cut the movie so they got to each scene so quickly you wouldn't notice and the scene with Homer at the fair winning the motorcycle was one of the last things made because they wrote the entire thing and at the end someone brought up they hadn't established Homer could ride a motorcycle in the first place. All this to say I can see the Family Guy writers freaking out in the same way and doing something similar because at the end of the day The Simpsons Movie was a financial success.
@icecreamhero23758 ай бұрын
I watched the animator's commentary and the director's commentary for the Simpsons movie and enjoyed them. 1) Movies get test screenings its what they do. Sometimes the audience can make a good point. 2) I agree with the decision to make up a boyfriend for Lisa rather than there being a Lisa Milhouse romance. A Lisa Millhouse romance is so out of character in my opinion. In the show Lisa thinks Milhouse is ok but is annoyed by his advances. Putting them in a relationship would have been jarring and I'm supprised the writers considered it 3) When you make these types of movies you do have to expect people who have never seen the show to walk in the theater and get it. That is one of the challenges of movies based on TV shows. In the Spy x Family movie they stated things everyone already knows about the show at the beginning of the movie. The movie was non canon like Most anime movies so you can get what is going on without watching the entire show.

And there was one joke near the end where a CG Mickey Mouse comes in and says Disney regrets buying Family Guy, so Peter would force the kids in the audience to watch as he mutilates Mickey onscreen. Antagonist of course would mean it would end in a chicken fight, but with the whole family involved this time round. Protag I'd like to see the consequences of a Peter & Ernie brawl be the catalyst to the movie. They cause so much collateral they're now forced to go on the run, evading the law and realising they have more in common than once thought, whilst their respective families go into questioning and either try and clear their names or profit off of the publicity the event has caused (depending on the family member)

Similar to films like The Truman Show, The Matrix, and Everything Everywhere All at Once, I would make it about the Griffin family and the entire town of Quahog (Quagmire, Joe, Cleveland and the other characters) being banished to our world (the live action realm), because of how terrible they've become as people, and head on a spiritual journey to find themselves, learning what it's like to be human. I want this to satirize the dip in quality of the show, Hollywood entertainment, and look into philosophical ideas about morality and what it takes to be family. This sounds like a great idea, am I right?

"why aren't people saying 'isn't it too late in the show's lifespan to do this' like they did for the simpsons movie" because the simpsons movie did it and proved it can still be really good, lol also i feel like there's a half-life on how long people can look up and care enough about a show outstaying it's welcome to comment on it, like... you have the start, and thne the show goes on for several seasons, then you hit the point where people go "maybe it's time for the show to end..." and then it just keeps going and people grow numb to it after a while.

I’ve always wanted a family guy movie, been a fan since 2004(remember it was cancelled after season 3😂, that was wild). Hopefully it’s done right. We need a teenage Stewie and adult chris and Meg!!

Ironically, I think we looped back around to it being a good time for a Family Guy movie again. 10 years ago would have been perfect, 5 years ago I would have said it’s too late. But now with Family Guy memes being huge, and people hyped about Peter in Fortnite, I could see it being really successful. Remember the gentle-minions craze of people dressing up to see Minions in theaters? I could see that happening with Family Guy; something that starts as irony or a meme, but people actually start getting really into it

I hope it’s a straight adventure movie that takes place in one long cutscene

Even though I haven’t watched a full family guy episode for years at this point I would still love to see a full length feature film. I feel like it would give a necessary feeling of closure to a franchise that so many people have grew up with and many have more or less out grew. But I feel like a movie would give that feeling of closure that The Simpsons movie, Bob’s Burgers or even the SpongeBob Movie gave when they first came. A feeling like even if I never see another episode again I’ll be ok with that. A feeling of completeness that just isn’t felt unless you grew up with something, changed and evolved with it, and eventually outgrew it. Only to be reminded of it years later when it announces something big like it’s first big film. That feeling of revisiting something after so many years and relieving a feeling you haven’t had in years. A euphoric, nostalgic, and melancholic feeling of wholeness, the kind of feeling you can only get as an old fan like bumping into an old friend or family member you haven’t heard from in years. But as you catch up it’s like you no time had past, almost as if you had just seen them yesterday. And then as you both leave back to your lives you suddenly hit with a feeling of sadness depart knowing that it will probably never be like it once was, but it’s ok, because you still have the memories. And one last good time.

unrelated but I hope the orville gets renewed or a movie that wraps it all up

At this point I think the best and most likely possibility is if the show gets canceled again and they make it as the finale, I think if especially seth gets involved with it it'll be a good send off and warrant the fact it's a film

I want one baaad, I’ve watched family guy weekly since season 11, a lot of my brain is taken up by family guy bits (I’m an employed adult I swear). I feel like I wouldn’t be able to move on from the show without a movie. Hope we get one before it ends
