I served in the British Army (Royal Military Police) and was posted to Catterick 150 Provost Company. I have never known such a group of outstanding soldiers, both off and on garrison. But Canada is independent now,only a member of the commonwealth. Gurkahs fight for and with Britain ,that is their choice to do so..originally they fought for the largest and most powerful empire in the world which later got dissolved. If Canada was still British or part of empire then Gurkahs would also be there. It's pretty much why the USA doesn't have any. And India only has some because Britain formed a Gurkah Indian regiment something that continued after Britain gave it back.

i wont say that the selection process of gurkha recruiting in nepal is not free, fair ,and transparent but i would like to say that in some cases the selection is not fair because most of the capable young man are thrown out from selection due to the mistake count of PTI mostly in sit up and when they make mistake we cant even speak a single word against them so most of the capable young man aren't selected in british army from gurkha
@constantinvaldor37426 жыл бұрын
I hear that but Britain don't need the best. They need people capable of the job in all aspects. When I joined the British army they made selection slightly easier cos not enough people was applying. In Nepal they have to find ways to get what you want and forget the rest. Most probably 20% are good enough but they don't have the places for everyone.
@zyklon5626 жыл бұрын
@@constantinvaldor3742 well above 20% are fit enough to serve in any army. Most people alredy know the standards for selection, so it is safe to say only some of the fittest apply. I'm sure apart from medical disqualifications over 80% of them have practiced and capable of passing all the physical tests. The physical tests dont seem to be the choke point, its mostly the written exams and the medical ones. And yeah i agree, not all can be selected but it is only due to limited vacancies, otherwise most that apply would be fit enough for a basic recruit in any army in the world.

Well a 100 years ago women had no rights. They weren’t allowed to study much or get a real job. They had no human rights back then. Things are much different now isn’t it. My dad served in the British army for 20 years in the Queen Gurkha engineers and I grew up in Britain. Free healthcare, free dental care until the age of 18. I received a better opportunity in life than 95% of the people in Nepal. My cousins who’s18 are making 8 thousand rupees a month at his part time job. That’s 54 pounds. I make just under 2 thousand pounds a month in my apprenticeship at 19. That’s 291345.74 rupees in one month. I make what he makes in a month in a day. I brought a bmw at 17. He probably won’t ever buy a car unless he becomes a taxi driver. So there’s a big difference in how life was a 100 years ago and now.

Does the British Army provide pensions for retired Gurkhas? I've seen some information that many end up destitute. Are the Gurkhas still a 'mercenary' force serving at-will for the British, or are they afforded the same benefits as UK born personnel?
@threestepssideways12025 жыл бұрын
Yes their pay is the same as British born soldiers (dependent of course on pay grade and teir), so for instance a Gurkha rifleman private straight out of basic will earn the equivalent of their British colleague. In regards to pensions, they are equivalent to British soldiers in that the longer you serve the larger your pension will be. A half pension in the British Army is awarded at 12 years service, this is not the same of course as a medical pension which is awarded for debiillitating injuries acquired during service.

Lol i used to train like military since my uncle is Special Forces . Huh it very painful every summer time i had to go and stay with him . Damn he trained me but not his own son . But thanks to him i'm strong enough . He love to beat me when training . He says i got no problem with military qualification since i always trained their way . But i wanted to be S.A.S . A chance i wanted so much but sadly i don't live in UK .
