@@soyitiel honestly, I do think the drivers are to blame for this. Like, there are a crap-ton of signs, including a flashing one, to tell them they should not pass that bridge. One of them litterally measures their truck height and turns the traffic lights red if they're too tall! If your driving such a large vehicle it's even more imperative that you look closely at the signals in order not to cause accidents or harm people. You shouldn't drive a truck if you can't read signals.
@soyitiel4 ай бұрын
@@cit5184 I think your assesment is also fair. It seems like the drivers involved in this incidents might be a bit too distracted for their own sake. And yet, no matter how much signaling they add near the bridge, these incidents keep happening, which means that, objectively speaking, the signaling approach is not doing enough. More substantial meassures are long overdue. That's why I think both parties, the city and the drivers, are at fault.

The bridge it's self is designed to take massive weight vertically not take lateral hit. They put that beam out in front of the actual bridge to stop the bridge getting hit. Amazing how strong that beam is though. Literally hundreds of hits and hasn't budged. Yes they set up a new system that trips red light and turns on "over height must turn" sign on the traffic light. Yet they blow through the red light and the warning and destroy trucks anyway. Just goes to show you can't fix stupid. I really like how you explain in the description of the video how the simple answer to this problem is for drivers to just pay attention to the warnings. You don't give in to all of this stuff about how the signs should be different ....these accidents are only the fault of 1 person each time and that is the driver. If you don't pay attention, you will suffer the consequences. Very valuable lesson.

Let's be honest u-haul penske and enterprise should not be allowed to rent Box trucks that big to any random person who shows up asking for one just because you can drive a Honda Civic does it mean you can drive a 24' truck some of this has to be on the company's renting this s*** to people who clearly should not be driving

@@todydn I'm booked for a penske 16-footer later this month. And I have a Honda Civic, so I get what you're saying. But I'm in NYC and heading west so I won't be near this bridge. And here in NYC, the rule is no trucks on parkways, but only on expressways. The reason being that parkways have low overpasses.

This kind of bridge is one of the reasons why my grandpa was trained by having him read off EVERY sign that he passed by to his driving instructor.
@adambomb7897 ай бұрын
There is a somewhat low bridge near where I grew up, and UHaul would actually make you sign an acknowledgement that the truck you were renting would not fit under that specific bridge. Once a month somebody would still hit it.

James Flatt, "Two men a half a truck" or "Two men and a flat bed truck" or my favorite "Two dumb men and half a truck". This is why I NEVER loan my truck to anyone. They say "I'll bring it back" (that's what borrow means) I say, "In what condition?" "No means NO WAY!"
