awesome series, thanks for showing how bad the body was. Its cool how you keep in your mistakes instead of editing them out, much more realistic. I recommend sandblasting the frame, some linex is a nice option on the frame to ensure it never rusts.

The transfer case shift levers are a snap to take out, don't be chicken. They ride on a little shaft that most likely needs replacing. The replacement shaft comes with a zirk fitting so you can grease the shaft and shifters.. In the replacement kit there are also 2 spring steel clips that keep the shifter rods from vibrating.

I've worked fab shops and we ate up DeWalt grinders, but they were used way hard, 3 shifts a day. They were always in the tool room getting repaired. I've caught my work shirts on fire many times! Mostly with 7 inch grinders and in a tight spot where I couldn't point the sparks away from me. Once, in a boiler, I pointed them away from me, but they looped around the boiler and caught the back of my shirt on fire (The firewatch was playing with his phone). That one burned a little bit. lol

When I was a kid my big sis' had a "61" Willies. It was beautiful. Her husband built the motor and someone in Anchorage, Alaska bought it back in the 80's. I wish we still had it.♡Good memories.

Josh, I know you're sending the Jeep to HBH when completed and you asked all of us undercoating or paint. If the Jeep is going to be in calendars and possibly magazine articles down the road, paint is the way to go. Paint is a quality finish and will make the Jeep shine in photos. Just my 2¢. Can't wait to see the finished product, Woooooo!

I have seen people make a pulley and rope system up in the rafters to remove and THEN install bodies. I would recommend you still do that to mount your new body IF it's just going to be you doing the work. They stored the body in the rafters while they worked on the frame, engine and systems. Good luck, Josh!

Hey Josh, like you, I do most everything by myself! I always find when removing things like engines and bodies w my excavator, small motions with lots of stops to check progress is the key. There always seems to be something left hooked up that shouldn’t be! 🤪 I’ve reused an awful lot of stuff by not destroying it during removal. Keep having fun and stay safe!

You should dip the frame in truck bed liner stuff, best thing in the world and durable, I sandblasted my car dolly and bought the half gallon and still got some left, @ Autozone" don't forget your rewards card!! oh and don't forget the old bed could look really good with some flowers growing in it on the side of the driveway , maybe some paint or the old stuff back on it and fill her up with dirt and plant some flowers.

Hey Josh I thought the body was just a lot of surface rust but old popcorn sure needs a new makeover that's for sure and you'll get her done and when you put the new body on put Flex Seal on it and the same thing with the frame that way nothing will Rust ever again but I think that they do make Rhino Lining they use it for the back beds of the pickup trucks I don't know if you can buy that or they have to specially do that but I heard that is the best and I do not know how much it cost but you want to spray any kind of rubberized stuff on the frame in the body then using paint or primer and thank you for the video Josh very good I enjoyed it

You were right to get the new body. I understand the purists view, but by the time you replace all the rusted metal with new metal, and use body filler, the body aint original anyway. On Junkyard Empire they did a 45 or 46 Willy's, and also replaced the body with a Kaiser Willy's body (BTW-They had to locate and drill the mounting bolt holes.) They did one on Wheeler Dealers too but the body wasn't in as bad a shape and they kept it. It had a military designation and even still had a military service schedule under the hood.

Way too late to suggest the way to take the body off, but I would've considered a cherry picker on one end a cobble up a frame to use a hand crank winch (don't know if everyone else calls it a come-along like we do) on the other end.

Me and my dad rebuilt his 73 cj-5, the body was gone. And by that I mean very large sections weren’t there... all new floors, rebuilt the entire sides of the tub, big patches in the firewall. It took us a few months to fab it all up and get it bondo-ed. It can be done if you want to, that Jeep is restored now and on the road

Thread the shifters and the knobs, you'll save someone a headache later. Not too mention, it associates thoughtfulness with your name.. Pretty cool if you ask me. As a past builder and current admirer myself, I'm naturally drawn to those details. I like how you build to your ability, it may not always be right but it's what you know. Not one person here can say they've never been there if you ever worked on a anything. You either dive in and learn or you 'll go ask or watch videos showing you how. Didn't have videos then just Manuals, those are the large paper backs that you had too read and learn if you wanted it fixed. Sell the body, they will come..
