I've been hard stuck at 1100 for a while, but now with the French and Stonewall, I'm at about 80-90% WR and climbing through 1300 smoothly. These speed runs are game changers

Seeing 1400s and 1700s blunder queens give me hope that maybe I don't suck quite as badly as I thought I did.

I often play the French against my opponent's 1. e4 and I know some of the basic ideas and pawn breaks available to Black, but I've always struggled a bit when White plays the exchange variation 3. exd5 exd5 because I don't know what to do next. I've never even considered playing a move like ... Bd6. However, after seeing Aman play it in this video, allied with moves like Ne7 and f6, I might just give it a go.

Bd6 works in both the setup you're talking about, and also the normal Nf6, c6, 0-0 style variations.

I picked up the French because it's easy to blitz moves in speed chess, learning a lot from this series.

What did you see @35:45 that scared you from long castling? Was it the open file and their bishop staring at the queenside that did it?

I know people who play the advance don't play it very well but Aman's line has a flaw in it. After Bd7 preparing to capture on d4, white has a nice reply dxc5. After 0-0 black has a serious problem with his dark squared bishop. A very common blunder is Ne7 which loses to b4! And the bishop is trapped! So long story short, black should capture once on d4 and then play Bd7 to improve on this line. Even then, whites gambit is quite a bit more deadly than the traditional Milner-Barry Gambit. White doesn't have to recapture and instead will focus on development. Thanks again Aman for the great content! Edit: misnotated a move, should be correct now.

This is not a flaw… even tho i play the line you talked about, this is also perfectly fine for black, after O-O and a5 black is doing ok I should mention that i’m 2100 rated and that i only play e6 against e4, gives me some credit
@ethansmusic9898
@ethansmusic9898 Жыл бұрын
@@hypnoticaldugong7835 I'd say black shouldn't allow dxc5. White was committing to gambiting a pawn and now they get to play a position with even material and all the same benefits. I think the engine gives white a decent advantage as well. Edit: at a low depth the engine after ...a5 gives white a solid advantage. Around 0.7. White can follow up with simple attacking moves such as Re1, h4 h5, Nd2 f1 g3 h5 or Nd2 b3 d4.

@@ethansmusic9898 bro what is your elo ? just tell me because it matters if you are arguing with me, 0.7 a solid advantage ?? if you want to analyse a position in the opening don't watch the engine but go to lichess database, select rapid games and 2000+ players, and that is how you see if there is any advantage in the position, after a5 and any white response, f6 is statistically giving black more chances to win the game

After watching the stonewall series with all the big attacks and easy wins, the French is looking very positional, and a little dicey already at 1500-1700. Well maybe ill get some much needed improvement at endgames
