There are interviews with people who actually knew Sarah and her family, who say that she moved into the house because it was closer to the rest of her family and that she kept on building because at the time unemployment rates were very high and she wanted to employ people to work for her since she had the money and there was no other work to be done. She did feel bad because of the people who died because of her families gun budines and that was her way if giving back. According to those people (again close friends and family) she didn't actually believed in ghosts and never had a psychic session. I guess people just can't deal with a nice old lady, no it had to be ghosts....

Also she was a notorious micro manager so some of the odd designs like the staircase to nowhere could be due to her not being a good architect and messed up the building plans

@@jessmstephens Now I want a Bio-Movie about Sarah discussing her actual life, and then dealing with the "mysteries" after her death. I certainly love the idea that the "crazy ghost house" lady actually built the house for more interesting reasons. It is sad that all she is remembered for now is her home.
@jessmstephens
@jessmstephens 3 жыл бұрын
@@dragonhunter4592 I think that would be interesting, too. But she was a bit reclusive, so it might be a challenge to make a compelling movie about her that's also realistic. I read "Captive of the Labyrinth" about her a few years ago, and I honestly thought much of the level of detail wasn't that interesting simply because it's hard to bring life to a long-dead, highly private person. I think a movie like "Winchester" certainly doesn't HURT her legacy, as Sarah Winchester is really a character in another person's story here, and I don't think we're meant to believe these are a true reflection of her life. Honestly, I think if someone more knowledgeable than me took the time to update her Wikipedia page, that would do more to popularize a realistic perception of Sarah Winchester than any movie.

Bullets are just like little arrows you can reload and shoot them again and again. But they are not as deadly as knives, a single knife to the stomach or shoulder blade results in instant death and the victim is frozen in place and normally cant speak a single word before dying silently.

I got to visit the Winchester house, it is really spooky. It’s always really REALLY cold due to the massive amount of empty space. There’s also a ton of crazy shit in there, for example, one of the rooms had 13 nails in the wall because Sarah Winchester was obsessed with the number 13. Also shown in the movie was the staircases to nowhere, there were also rooms where the door frame would be ridiculously tall or ridiculously short, every room was different. Unfortunately I was only able to see about 40 rooms, and I would definitely love to go visit again.

I went to the Winchester Mystery House last summer with my hisband & daughter. It was amazing! I walk with a cane. But the stairs in most areas are shorter & longer than regular stairs. As a result, I was able to follow the majority of the tour without too much trouble. I even got to ride in the elevator down to the closed off garden room since the back staircase was too dificult to navigate. It was so creepy & peaceful there. I highly recommend the house tour. Unfortunately, if youre wheelchair-bound you cannot partake, as its not ADA compliant yet. The house is truly one of a kind. In many of the rooms random furniture & stained glass winfows are piled high. That's because the estate is trying to put the house back to it's original state when Mrs Winchester lived there. After her death almost everything except the house & land were sold off. Re-acquiring the actual pieces, or some reasonable copies, is taking a lot of $ & time. But it will be awesome when its complete!

I visited the W-house in the 1970's. At that time all of the furniture was pulled out. It was an amazing strange place. As Megan said there are easy to climb stairs and normal ones through out the house. They told a story of a visit by Harry Houdini and that he partook in a seance.

Bro! I went there over spring break and the whole time I was thinking how epic it would be for the cast of SPN to go there for a promotional gig! I would spend thousands to go see that. I was also wondering if that's where the writers got the inspiration for Sam and Dean's last name. It's certainly not a coincidence based on the stories of both Winchester families.

Biscuit recipe: Ingridients: 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting 2 tablespoons baking powder 1 scant tablespoon sugar 1 teaspoon salt 5 tablespoons cold, unsalted butter, preferably European style 1 cup of whole milk Process: Preheat oven to 425. Sift flour, baking powder, sugar and salt into a large mixing bowl. Transfer to a food processor. Cut butter into pats and add to flour, then pulse 5 or 6 times until the mixture resembles rough crumbs. (Alternatively, cut butter into flour in the mixing bowl using a fork or a pastry cutter.) Return dough to bowl, add milk and stir with a fork until it forms a rough ball. Turn the dough out onto a well-floured surface and pat it down into a rough rectangle, about an inch thick. Fold it over and gently pat it down again. Repeat. Cover the dough loosely with a kitchen towel and allow it to rest for 30 minutes. Gently pat out the dough some more, so that the rectangle is roughly 10 inches by 6 inches. Cut dough into biscuits using a floured glass or biscuit cutter. Do not twist cutter when cutting; this crimps the edges of the biscuit and impedes its rise. Place biscuits on a cookie sheet and bake until golden brown, approximately 10 to 15 minutes.

Not likely, there is no "going to the bathroom" on the tour, you handle that shit first in the knick knack area, the tour is literally 30 minutes. Hate to damper the experience but safety is number one priority obviously, like they're going to tell you "take 3 rights, 4 lefts, pass the gargoyle take the spiral staircase down and the unisex bathroom is right there. Cant miss it."

The odd sized stair risers doesn't actually have anything to do with the weird architecture. As she got older the regular sized stairs were too difficult for her to navigate, so they were modified into the version seen in the house today. The kits to modify existing stair cases were designed and made by a company at that time specifically for people with mobility issues.
