Your most narrative, compelling post since the incredible Pacific passage. I follow a lot a sailing channels but watch yours first. 25 years ago, I took a SWA flight on an older plane which shook, rattled and groaned as we rolled down the runway for takeoff. I said to a fellow passenger - as alarmed as I - "IT'S LIKE GOING INTO SPACE, IN A WINNEBAGO!." Holly, I get this same Winnebago thrill from watching Your adventures

Hey Holly! Glad to see that you are well and enjoying life in the South Pacific. Great Northern beans are somewhat similar to Navy beans. I'm told that they got the name because for years they were served on the dining cars of the Great Northern railroad. I'm not 100% certain if that's true but it sounds plausible. Take care and be safe. Fair winds and following seas. Love you much! 💖💖

I am always impressed with your humor, skill and spirit of adventure. My friend just paid someone $500 to get the jaw of her whisker pole unstuck, ouch. But, her boat is San Francisco, $$$$. Very easy to say from my settee here while in the slip - the sea and sailing are just as much the goal as the pristine anchorages, they are not separate. You embody that philosophy well!

I'd value your opinion. You got a 27'er. Was that only because of budget? Nothing wrong with that, but would you have done it in a 32, 35, 38, etc if you could have. I'm in the market for a boat - budget limited of course. I've had a 28'er and would really like something 35' - 2', but what is your opinon? you have a vast and varied sailing history compared with me - thoughts..../bottomline.

Holly. I've been watching your vids off and on for the past many months. They are different from most other sailing channels and that makes them refreshing. Just a comment about filling up with diesel... and you couldn't because it was Saturday. MANY sailors that I have watched have hit upon many closures of many things because they didn't check ahead and made an assumption. We all do things like that. However, in my history of travelling (NOT sailing!) I would ask about upcoming holidays that I might not know about, when stores SHOULD be open etc. etc. Obviously you made it just fine. I suppose that my comment is coming from years of being a Scout Master. BE Prepared, being the scout motto. What MIGHT happen? Anyway, keep sailing, keep learning and keep making vids. It is nice to see young people out exploring.

How many gallons per hour of diesel fuel do you burn at the typical speed you were going? And, how many gallons of diesel fuel does the tank hold and how many gallons do you typically carry in containers?
@WindHippieSailing3 жыл бұрын
I have a 10 gallon tank amd a five gallon jerry but I burn gosh I think less than a liter and hour
@williamwest58273 жыл бұрын
@@WindHippieSailing Ok, so you have roughly 15 gallons or 56.7 liters of diesel you can have on board. Using your estimate, if you were just going somewhere out and back, without sail, I would add for safety 1/3 usage out, 1/3 usage back and 1/3 in reserve. Thus you could (using power only) at a slower speed run for around 18 +- hours using 1/3 of your fuel with 1/3 used coming back and 1/3 in reserve. With adverse wind, current and seas obviously things will be different. The amount of fuel appears reasonable for getting in and out of islands, atolls and the lee side of things. Your sailing skills surely will take care of the rest. Thanks for the response. Happy sailing!
