your first example, reviewed at 5:15, had the windmill turning the big gear using a small gear and using it to turn the long axle by converting speed to torque. The example you said would be the same at 5:45 turned the axle, on which there was a big gear. The big gear then transitioned to a small gear that in turn powered the helve hammer So the first one had a small gear to big gear and then back to a small gear (1:1), the second one a big gear to a small gear(not 1:1), so you had less torque (but more speed). Again at 16:57 if you pause and look at your setup, the contraption in the foreground goes small to large to hammer, the one in the background goes from large to small to hammer. Of course the rear one doesn't work, you try to run it at lower torque.

Well unfortunately i made this video so long ago and haven't played VS in quite a while as well lol. So I can't speak knowledgeably about any of this any more 😂 I've forgotten pretty much everything. Don't know if the devs have changed gears around or not. When i made this i do at least recall them being very buggy and not quite right. But i appreciate you taking the time to watch the video and comment!

I actually have that planned 😅 after a discord post i saw a while ago. Unfortunately all my plans have been pushed back a wee bit. But a creative mode tutorial is coming! Eventually! Lol

@@PapaCheddar Awesome thank you. Sure the official video on the vintage story channel is nice, but sometimes you press a keybind you didn't know about and BAM something unexpected happens. Maybe even cover a basic modechange macro, which players use to switch between creative and survival to craft.. Seriously makes me wish we could access crafting without switching modes, even a creative only block or something. Though I know they do plan to replace the inventory crafting with an in-world variant.
@PapaCheddar2 жыл бұрын
That's one of my biggest pet peeves with this game lol. No crafting grid in creative 😅 makes no sense!!!
@electrobob9922 жыл бұрын
@@PapaCheddar Exactly, there really should be. I know we have the macro ability, but for modders and players it would make more sense to allow us to craft without the switching. Even a creative only crafting bench, heck there is a creative only furnace and crafting bench.. But neither work, when they really should.

Haha too true 😂 I reckon the devs don't imagine too many folks are spending a lot of time in creative. Though heck these days i sure do haha. I don't know how hard it is to add into game but i feel like it can't be too arduous!

Nice tutorial. I've spend a very long time trying to get those things running right. I've gotten a helve hammer to work exactly once, on your server. 👀 was that MATH Papa Cheddar was doing?! LOL I power one helve hammer with a transmission so I don't have to listen to bang...bang.. all day long. Otherwise I haven't found a use for the power. It's pretty annoying when You build everything correctly, connect the axle to from large gear to the hammer or grinder and it works very fast for a second and then stops. What an annoying bug considering how much effort goes into creating those on survival.
@PapaCheddar2 жыл бұрын
I agree. It can usually be fixed by breaking an axel and putting it back. Def not a finished product though 😅
@voodooozo37552 жыл бұрын
@@PapaCheddar I discovered something funny. I had no way of making one large gear with two windmills Connected to it work properly. At first I could use them and small gears to power quern and make it work very fast. After a few changes I wasnt able to do that anymore and it just stopped. I had similiar problems with running even one helve hammer. They were either too damn slow and didnt work at all. In the end I managed to make both quern and 2 helve hammer work at reasonably high speeds at once. One of the windmills is connected to the middle of large gear, either from the bottom or from the top, using axle and gears. The second windmill is connected to the side of the large gear with normal gear. Im not sure if I understand it correctly, but the game may think that one Mill produces slow rotation which is torgue and the other produces fast rotation which gives it speed. Dunno why it works but it works well haha.
@PapaCheddar2 жыл бұрын
Nice haha. Sounds like it shouldn't work 🤣 but all logic is already out of the window. End of the day. if it works, it works. Don't question it!
