I'm so tech challenged that I still use a landline. Your instructions have saved the day and brought our old Windows 7 computer back to life!!! I set it up to look at old photos and to play games on it that we don't have on our Windows 10 desktop or Windows 11 laptop. Of the dozens of videos that I checked out yours is the very BEST!!!! I applaud you for sharing this knowledge for those of us who were up a creek---so to speak. You have made this 75 year old lady very happy!!! THANK YOU!!!!

The same story happened to me. After cleaning the disk, it first stuck at 100%, then at 35%. After waiting for a while and the computer refusing to start, it became clear to me that I had a problem and I needed to figure out how to fix it. Fortunately for me, I came across your video and with your help I was able to deal with this annoying problem. ☺ Extremely helpful video! I recommend it to everyone! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your help! ❤

It worked! Like others have commented, I did a disk cleanup the day before it got stuck at 100%, and then 35%. Thank you so so much! I found a bunch of useless info on Microsoft forums about running troubleshooters, etc. Your info was exactly the fix I needed, and your video was fast paced, short, and to the point! Love it. I usually can’t bear to sit through a 30 minute video that drones on, which is why I usually don’t watch videos for things like this. But I was so panicked I might have ruined my computer, so when I saw the title of your video exactly explaining my situation I clicked it. I’ve subscribed and gave the video a thumbs up. Question - now that the computer is fixed, should we change back the updates from ‘manual’ back to whatever it was before? Was it ‘delayed start’?
@AskYourComputerGuy2 жыл бұрын
Now it's working, I'd leave the settings exactly as they are. No need to tempt the Microsoft gods LOL. Glad it's working again! Sorry for the delayed response, for some reason, your comment got held for review and I just now saw it! Thx for the sub, I appreciate you!

@AskYourComputerGuy Жыл бұрын
Thank you, I appreciate that. No, it doesn't mean it will forever be stuck there. Although I have seen it happen where Windows just can't proceed because of one bad update. There is always the option to download that update manually (find the KBB number and Google it. You'll find a download link somewhere), then once you have that one installed outside of Windows update environment, you should be able to download the remaining with no problem. But it could also be something ok your computer causing a conflict (driver, program, etc). I'd start with manual download and go from there

Got it, thanks! Do you normally run Windows 7, or just this particular machine? I’ve had Windows 7 prof since I bought my laptop and haven’t wanted to upgrade because it’s always run solid.
@AskYourComputerGuy2 жыл бұрын
There is no reason to upgrade if you don't choose to, other than security. My attitude has always been "if you haven't been attacked yet, you probably won't be" (meaning the things you use Windows for daily make you a low-risk user). Just bear in mind that over time, you will run into issues with browsers and programs requiring a newer version, but until that time comes, don't worry about it. I have machines that are still running Windows XP, and some that run Windows 11. You're fine :)

Hey Scott. I dug out my old HP computer which came with Windows Vista from the factory. Installed a different hard drive in it and did a fresh install of Windows 7 pro. I have a few programs to put on it that Windows 10 won't recognize. Everything loaded ok except I need to get on line to get some updates to the software I'm wanting to use. Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome won't connect because of being unsupported. Any suggestions?

@terryshipe6096 ай бұрын
@@AskYourComputerGuy it's a hard wired desktop. Win 7 is the only OS on the machine.
@AskYourComputerGuy6 ай бұрын
Unsupported is different than "won't work". Seen this before on older systems where you would get an error at the top of the browser window about it being an unsupported operating system, but even in Vista, it would still open (some, not all) websites. It's going that direction more and more because of browser security. Try Brave, Opera, Safari...one of those might actually work in Windows 7 still

Thanks, this worked perfect, question: can you put windows update back to "delayed start" in services after it boots into the normal windows (not safe mode)? thanks
@AskYourComputerGuy2 жыл бұрын
You can change the update schedule, but joy sure about the delayed start. I did make another video about how to disable Windows 10 updates altogether. That might help solve your issue, but turning off updates isn't always a good idea. Getting them in huge chunks is where most of the blue screens appear. Use caution!

@@AskYourComputerGuy For your information, after running disk cleanup in safe mode and deleting all the files, I booted into normal Windows 7, put delayed start back in services, and rebooted, the system booted just fine, without problems

@@AskYourComputerGuy On another note, I have another laptop in which the restore points are gone completely, and when I create a new one it is nowhere to be found (Windows 7 also). Is there a way to solve this issue - do you have another video about this problem?? (Sorry to intrude with a new subject here)
@AskYourComputerGuy2 жыл бұрын
Excellent! Sorry, I assumed Windows 10, not 7. Glad it's working regardless!
@AskYourComputerGuy2 жыл бұрын
Did you verify that you had enough drive space to create restore points? If the drive is not enabled for system protection (which often times it isn't), you have to manually enable it, allocate a portion of your drive for restore points, then you can create them. No I don't have a video out about that, but that's a great idea for my next one! I'm on it!!!

Windows 10 and 11 update processes are very similar. The steps outlined here should work for you as well

@@AskYourComputerGuy can you tell me how to do it? can it be explained in a yt comment
@AskYourComputerGuy3 жыл бұрын
Probably, but I'm dropping off computers right now and it's also Christmas Eve. But an external drive just needs to be plugged in and wait for Windows to assign it a drive letter
@Deltasquadformingup3 жыл бұрын
@@AskYourComputerGuy okay i figured it would be that easy can i launch programs from an external hard drive or do i have to download them onto my compuuter
@AskYourComputerGuy3 жыл бұрын
Yes, as long as you installed them to that portable. The links to run the program will be running off of that portable so yes you can

You know why i have this problem? Because i wanted to delete All old Windows updates. THEN when i restarted the Computer i had this Issue with 35% and it doesnt move
@AskYourComputerGuy2 жыл бұрын
I would still be patient and wait. I've seen Windows take up to half a day to finally start. Did you follow the rest of the steps? I mean, sometimes Windows is just corrupt and needs to be reloaded. I would give it time and see
@TheSupernr172 жыл бұрын
@@AskYourComputerGuy guess what? I waited and after 36 Minutes ill reach the save mode but this time i did a „Systemrecovery“ (dont know if its correct in english). I set it 6 days back, and not it works :). But the old Windows Updates from Windows 7 are still here, but im afraid to delete them now, because of that i had this „35“% issue… Probably when i deleted old Windows updates, windows was confused?
@AskYourComputerGuy2 жыл бұрын
That's entirely possible, but it's working. Get back to desktop, create a new restore point immediately and off you go!
