That's how we did them back in the day. I have one to replace and was just checking videos to see if there was anything new out there. You just confirmed the Old School is still the best School.

No it isnt. The way did it was sit in the center of the front seat and take both feet and kick the chit out the upper middle and it popped out, same as today

@@EarlGuyton425 a glued windshield? You will be kicking until 2 days after the second coming!😂

@@rockspyder3970 No windshield is glued. They pop right out after a few bumps with the feet. Even glue hardens and cracks in places where it is used
@rockspyder39704 ай бұрын
@@EarlGuyton425 disagree. Some of the car models we have here, the windshield is glued with a kind of hard silicone. You don’t have a snowball’s hope in hell to get it loose without cutting the silicone!

Same reason I have to remove mine.

I thought I was confident. I did not want to use wire, I was pressed for time. I used the tool that looks like a surgical instrument with two handles and a small 90* blade. The urithane was so tough that it drove the blade into the glass. Because of the edge, i could not remove the tool. reversing, moving forward, and removal of tool all cracked my replacemnt at the junkyard. I'm counting on the wire. I only have one more chance at a farther junk yard since i broke the only one in a 15 mile radius. ill give myself more than a half hour. Funny thing is, i would have had plenty of time to use the wire if I did not run litterally to the other side of this huge junkyard to get a can of solvent i passed up when i figured i should clean the glass so suction cups will work. I went and got the can and when i got back went to open it and the screw lid was gammed so poked it. poured some on ground to check it and out came black paint! IN A SOLVENT CAN! to be fair, if I had read it, i would have known instantly but somehow did not notice the sticker had any info on it. I think i thought the can was blank or expected there not to be anything written on it.

the easy way would be to remove the side rubber weather strip, and expose the 3-4 screws that holding the side molding, and just take them off, metal wire damages the paint severely, not matter how careful one trying to be, and could be seen in your video, im not saying you did a horrible job with the given tools, but definitely not an easy or efficient way, besides that - good try.

It is when these on-line scam bait n' switch places quote your $270 for the job on-line, but then $670 when you actually call to schedule an appointment. I too am driving an old beater car, no longer with the comprehensive -- and I even used to work a glass shop as a summer job.... 40 years ago.... so I'm game to try this method. (and yes, $49 for a replacement "oem" windshield from a pick 'n pull yard.....)

I have a few old project cars. The local shops won't do removal and reinstall of existing glass.

The price of glass has gone up and I have a baseball sized hole on my windshield. I went to the local u auto pull it and got one for $25. Came out easy but took like forty minutes for me to do alone. No cracks and I saved $250. I will not pay over $200 for a windshield if the car isn't a BMW.
