I've seen that Wing Chun guy before, Kevin Lee did an episode with him. He is good as a knowledgeable, technical martial artist, but this video shows he really doesn't know how to apply the martial art and hasn't actually studied how to use it combatively. Seeing Izzo and sifu Milos using it in action and discovering how best to train combatively shows what Wing Chun is capable of. Good video, but the video from the last episode or two where you had the Wing Chun vs Kyokoshin showcased better Wing Chun in application than this.

When the modern wing chun craze took off, he followed the trend and focused more into wing chun and mook jong tutorials. To give him a little credit, he's never claimed toughness or fight IQ. So yeah, he's not a good fighter, but credit to him at least for wanting to try it out. And he never called out Jeff or anything; Jeff had been making the rounds trying different training methods and styles to include JKD/Wing Chun at the time. With helmet and protector that I never experienced before I cant see things and restrict my movement much. What I saw is my opponent not using "wingchun punch" much, he using imperfect boxing punches Then in round 2 I not using any wingchun punches and straight using muaythai punches...and round 2 give a better result than round 1... And interestingly...when I use wingchun punches they not count it as point because they said that my punches give no impact to my opponent, but when I using muaythai punches they start counting it as point So it turns out you can use boxing and give more advantages to get point when you do chisao fight 😂

Stem cells are amazing. That’s the absolute stupidest take on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He admits he knows nothing about it and he proves it by saying that bs. When you learn submissions you don’t run your partner down. You create a flow and rolling helps it work. And it works phenomenally. I’m a Catch Wrestler, BJJ, Combat Sambo and Judo, Muay Thai, Dutch Muay Western boxer and a combatives player. I went 6-0 professionally. 5 first round knockouts and 1 16 second first round submission. I was Taskmaster before Disney made him a mute woman. I’m a Universal Martial Artist. Sparring does help alot of people. He doesn’t think professionally bc combatives isn’t a sport. He probably doesn’t spar bc he probably knows something about himself he doesn’t want to admit to himself or you. Wing Chun has its uses but I think you backed the wrong pony brother. “The gentle art” claim is put on Bjj bc you don’t have to be the aggressor for it to work. Catch is aggressive but everything is stealing from everything these days down to their philosophies. But I’ve had my neck broken in Bjj and I don’t have any issues that would relate to Wing Chun. Im sorry for you bc you are on a quest and you do great work. But for him to be on here a speak on “Soft arts” and putting Bjj in the category is like mind blowing. You should show him Rickson Gracie. And he teaches wrestling? Man…. I think he’s a talker. Love your channel. But you should push back on what you know for a fact. Never let anyone speak false without correcting them with what you absolutely know as TRUTH. There’s no “Soft” Submission Arts. And they’re only submissions when you accept the tap. And that doesn’t exist to me now that I’m no longer a professional. Again I appreciate you and apologize. I’m a passionate man when it comes to fighting. I don’t think I would know who I was without it. God bless 🙏🏻 ouss I’m not the 2nd coming of Bruce Lee. I remembered the video he did with Jeff Chan called 'Muay Thai vs Wing Chun Sparring' being a better as Nate's footwork was a problem for the Muay Thai footwork. But, after seeing a bit of that video again it appears as if they are throwing a lot of kicks and it doesn't look very Wing Chun like.

@axelstone31313 ай бұрын
@@M_K-Bomb there is only one JKD and that’s Bruce Lee’s JKD. The fencing footwork, structure and body mechanics are what makes the art work. All these other interpretations are bastardised forms that look little like Bruce’s art. All this “interpretation” nonsense has killed the art. Most people think JKD is some sort of modified wing chun, or “just add whatever you want and call it JKD” it’s neither of those things. Nate is a JKD concepts guy I believe. So he’s trained a lot of different things that Bruce Lee never did and essentially tried to blend all these things together. There is a prevalent myth about Bruce “mixing” arts together to create JKD which isn’t true. What happened was in the beginning he looked other things to find their weakness and how to exploit them, not to necessarily use them. Later on he essential threw a lot of this out and developed something more simplified, direct and non-classical, which was jeet kune do. You also don’t need to learn wing chun to learn JKD. They have completely different footwork, body mechanics and structure. The two biggest components of JKD is actually fencing and boxing, not wing chun. Whilst wing chun did initially play a role from 1967 it became less and less to the point of it pretty much disappearing completely by the 70’s. It’s like people think Bruce just didn’t simplify things past 1967 and that he just stuck with what he taught at that time but it’s important to note what Bruce taught isn’t necessarily what he himself was practicing. He took trapping and chi sao out the curriculum in 1970 but had already moved away from it himself by 1968.

If you're not coming forward, its not Wing Chun. That's an undeniable bottom line. I think Izzo is being kind of flippant about "you have to eat punches." There's a lot of footwork, tactics, and hand work that are supposed to protect you as you "seek the bridge" and close. But he's right, Wing Chun requires a determination to move to close quarters and finish. I agree with Izzo. That guy is a JKD, not Wing Chun. (I say that as a guy who has done both.) You see it not only in the hand techniques, but also in the boxing style head movement and footwork. The best practical, combative Wing Chun that I've found on youtube is VLMA (which I first discovered on your channel, great stuff) and a Smarter Fighter (a teacher named Martin Brogaard from Denmark). I also like Kevin Goat (from Canada) but his Wing Chun is mixed with a lot of other stuff. Mark Phillips from Fight Science (London Wing Chun Academy) and Adam Chan from Kung Fu Report (Vancouver) are also great. Kevin Lee from Francis Fong's Academy in Georgia is great, but he's more recreational and more exploratory than practical. I actually think Master Wong's technique is very practical and effective, but that gets lost in some of his bombastic presentation and people think of him as a goofball. I like Izzo's stuff too generally, but there's some points where I think he oversimplifies stuff.

I think the *have* means more that the possibility of punches in bridging the gap is a price that must be willing to be paid. I took Wing Chun for a 7 years, then I did MMA for 10. Chi sao only works on the ground for me. WC striking never worked for me. The footwork was beneficial. They do have decent cardio (in general). I dunno, each style has its uses.

Jeff is known for going to hard on new guys. There’s multiple videos. But that’s how I had to learn. I always liked Izzo it was just that Sly guy he was always with. Lenny Sly. Look into him. I don’t like him but he makes Aikido look legit on a HOLLYWOOD level. I’d be interested in knowing what he’s doing these days though.

Izzo has to defend Wing Chun. But the problem with the excuses is, that Wing Chun is like this in every video you will ever find. Boxing as a fist fighting style is far and away superior.

The acrobatics, his trapping, but at a base, he is a tough kid from a tough town, and he’s no wimp. Just saying. Because DOM was kinda making it seem as if something is wrong with his material. Nate has fantastic ability, but his fighting skill is way up there. 😎👈🏻💯awesome show by the way! What Jeff and Nate were doing was having a friendly sparring match with GLOVES ON. Wing Chun is devastating. We do it with no gloves. It hurts bad. 😂❤ya, but that was neat though. Two nice guys just shaking it up is all.

The point wasn't that he wasn't tough, it was his poor technical ability to execute wing chun. I'm a wing chun guy and Nate had no distance management, footwork, and was obsessed with using his bong sao energy rolling punches while his body was rolling side to side. There's no wing chun if you can't occupy the center.

@@screamtheguy6425 I see. Ya, to me, Nate is going easy because Jeff and him are good guys, no need to show off kinda thing. To me, for starters, they shouldnt be wearing boxing gloves for wing Chun anyways. So that's one issue I see. 😁

BJJ alone is better than wing chun, but bjj mixed with Taekwondo is laughably better than wing chun in a very dominant way. Wing Chun ain't like BJJ. Kyuokushin, MMA, Boxing/kickboxing/thaiboxin, Wrestling/BJJ/Judo those are the top tier arts that function. Wing Chun is on a level with Aikido and all of the arts with cooperative opponents like 1 and 2 step sparring. When BJJ guys compete you literally assume the risk of death (blood cut from the brain) or great bodily harm (broken limbs) if you have a bad ref. That's not happening in wing chun brother. Even in wrestling you are just going for pins.

100% He does pseudo wing Chun well keeping boxing distance notary hearing to occupying center line and swarming opponent. Wing Chun is nice to knows combat no defense pure savagry. These kind of exchanges gives wing Chun bad rep in my opinion. The problem with many traditional martial arts is that big part of the curriculum has no combat exchange. They are played like sports. Wing chun is no sport.

10:30 and after. that's the issue with the theories on wing chun. Once u put it in practice, crowding and being mindlessly aggressive, and being ready to eat some punches IS partly garbage. Bare knuckle or not, u will get starched if ur chin isn't made of iron, and u just will get countered. A martial art solely based on attack? And badly executed attacks, its not even a 50 /50 chance

@ehisey3 ай бұрын
Classic issues with lack of sparring. WC guy did not engage at effective ranges. WC guy lacked to have the basic skills to make the basic techniques functional. Most styles will shift down to the basic skill sets of kicks and straight punches when sparring becuase it is basics. Requires resistances work dedicated to refine the unique aspects of an art to a functional level. Without that those skills go never achieve usablity.
@MrCBTman3 ай бұрын
More like professional fighter beats amateur. So many of these mismatches are really about that, not the arts being used. Plus, you can’t judge an art focused on creating injuries (the goal of self defense training) on how good it is at sport-fighting (where the rules are there to prevent injury) and where half of its techniques are not available.

I train kickboxing, BJJ, and MMA from a former world champion in a state of the art facility for less a year than he wanted to charge me a month. The thing is the literal techniques (situational by definition) from WC don't work out as well in a sparring situation where a skilled opponent also feels your body mass and gets to react accordingly. Jeff Chan is also that good at knowing and playing into them (see the Kevin Lee videos where's he's featured). I heard Bruce Lee didn't rely on WC techniques (trapping, mostly) as much during the late development of his approach of JKD, as you don't really need them with the footwork and ability to work on the range (while WC is kind of about two guys fighting in a phone cab). MMA is exactly what it stands for : a mix of martial arts and not some sort of "supreme style" meant to obliterate the others. One needs to expand their vocabulary to deal with the concrete situation of facing an opponent with various backgrounds.

@screamtheguy64253 ай бұрын
Ok to correct you, Bruce Lee didn't have to rely on trapping because he was Bruce Lee. He was talented and hardworking. Not because having tactile sensitivity is useless. Bruce had amazing power and speed with good mobility, his first punch would stun you quite accurately. However, he has the trapping as a tool from wing chun if you were able to intercept his attacks.

unfortunately in my experience 90% of wing chun schools in the u.s. were trained themselves to “guard the ricebowl” as the chinese say. in otherwords they dangle a carrot for 10+ years without actually teaching you to fight proficiently while shelling out 1000’s of dollars. i recently switched to MY VLMA in florida under Sifu Milos and its the total opposite, like no other wing chun school ive ever seen. he’s shown me that wing chun is certainly one of the most violent and vicious fighting styles known to man and i was a skeptic. i think WC gets a bad rap because of this
