Hey!!!! He rewired and rewound my pickups on my '76 Rickenbacker bass in around '81 there at that store for me!! I was 18 years old. I lived in White House and was playing for a gospel group called Naomi & The Sego Brothers. 1st time I ever ate rabbit was at his house and I stayed with him and his family a couple nights once when I was in between bands and he helped me get a great gig. When I was young my family travelled up from Florida to Virginia to see my grandparents. I had just really started learning to play the guitar. We spent an entire day through the Appalachian mountains and also at an orchard apple picking and so on so we were tired and when we got to my grandparents home I came in with my guitar first (without a case) and we all hugged and said our hellos and after 5 minutes I put down my guitar to help my father bring our bags in and when I walked back into the house my guitar was in my grandmothers hands. She was playing some serious 30’s and 40’s jaZz chords and just showing off. She said something to the effect that she couldn’t play due to arthritis but I think she stopped because she had 5 children to take care of growing up plus my grandfather was going blind back in those days so she had a lot on her plate but it was awesome to see that smile on her face playing my guitar and it was also awesome to know I wasn’t the only guitarist in our family. When I was a teen I took lessons from a man Sid Margolis. I was too young to appreciate it. I wasn't interested in theory or jazz chords. Well this man was a local legend. He was in the NBC orchestra in the 40's. Some later jazz masters learned from Sid. Love and respect your elders folks! There were where you are now.

Wings of Pegasus It is interesting how that works. I have noticed that years after I stopped playing the piano (the standard 2 part Bach inventions, or other intermediate level standard rep) that up to a certain point, my hands „remember“ the feeling and positions to go to for the piece. Bob is so lucky that his hands are still fine - appears to be no arthritis or rheumatism - but maybe that is because he has kept playing through his whole life. I hear that Eric Clapton can‘t play anymore, due to problems in his hands.

I think it's fair enough for people to be surprised by someone of Bob's age playing so well. As you said yourself, the body has a tendency to slow down with age not to mention that there are many things that could cause coordination to be less than optimal. I don't think most people would be surprised that someone of Bob's age could have once had that ability, but it is much less common to have retained all of the physical attributes required to maintain that level of playing. Either way, well done Bob, it's great that you still have it.

This is a great reaction! I completely agree with you with regards to how elder folks are perceived and/or regarded when doing amazing things. When applying logic, why shouldn't Bob Wood be able to play so well?? It should be a no-brainer given his many decades of experience! How many young folks do you see playing in Jazz bands or spontaneous jams at a venue? Young players do play Jazz but you spot them as often as we spot butterflies! Why? Because Jazz requires experience and intuitive improvisational skills. I don't think that the passage Mr. Wood played is pure Jazz but it does have A LOT of its ingredients. At certain moments I did 'feel' a hint of a Flamenco influence in there as well. Mr. Wood is obviously someone who has been around the musical block a few times. Bravo!

Additionally, he has some great musical chops that he continues into his old age. This video provided me with a bit of a boost today and I thank you for sharing this.
