I would argue that Nancy is almost as amazing a vocalist in her own right. The song "These Dreams" from this same Alive In Seattle performance is stellar ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZnWvlntoe7x5iqc ). The intonation is stellar. From grit, to soft breathy, to falsetto... she is masterful. And listen to Ann's amazing harmonies... Touche. And the finale is Nancy's sick range she displays at the end of the song... Don't imagine Ann with her dominant chest voice can pull that off... Whatever rock categories you can think of to plug these two into, and they're floating at the top.

I remember seeing the Grateful Dead in Oakland with a friend, in 1987, and she & I shared a taxi back to SF with a nice couple. We were so relieved when we reached our destination because all the driver talked about was how very tight Ann and Nancy’s clothes were (he brought up Heart even though we were returning from a Dead concert). He went on and on - really a creepy perverted creep. So yes, a lot of guys overlooked or ignored the band’s talent and reduced them to their physical appearance. (I know, not all guys!) Those women must have had to put up with a lot of crap over the years - am glad they did and that we are still enjoying their talent 40+ years after they first came onto the scene!

Greetings Fil, I fed as a younger man on Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Ella, Aretha, Tina Turner and then, at age 17, I saw Janis & Big Brother at the Fillmore in San Francisco and I've never recovered for from that night on, she wore the crown as far as I'm concerned. It wasn't until Heart that I was once again completely infatuated with a female vocalist who had a head and chest voice that gripped with range and emotion and decades later the Wilson sisters are still killing it. Amazing harmonies. As always, many thanks Fil.

I own this DVD and have watched it endlessly. With all due respect, the only issue I have with a song like “Alone” is that it isn’t one of Heart’s own songs, and it was recorded at a time when they used outside songwriters for the first time, and they later disclosed that they didn’t feel that they were their authentic selves at that time. But I have adored Heart since I was a teenager in the 1970s and have seen them perform live countless times. They have NEVER failed to deliver 1000%. Absolutely phenomenal. Thank you, Phil.

I also had a Roommate who was trying to learn a Bach song on guitar to play at his Sisters wedding .. but he had song books and I recall him telling me that Beatles had some songs that were a lot harder to play on guitar than many Pop Songs..
