Bon was amazing & I don't think Brian Johnson near the singer Bon Scott was. No offense to Brian Lovers but in heavy metal there is a fine line btwn belting it out & screaming, when Brian sings to me I hear scream. Maybe not a good way to describe it. I love AC/DC, They are so fun to watch, Angus a show in myself, 1st u tube video of them I watched, Bon is dressed up like a lil school girl, it is hilarious. I think it was Long way to the top & those bagpipes are insane. Yea we're going to start a rock band & use bagpipes. I love it! I do listen to Brian, not a hater but Bon Scott one of a Kind!

Kansas was the big college dance band when I attended university in Kansas! I gave them a a hard time about getting big heads about themselves when their ticket prices went up just for a concert! 😂 They were great people & talented musicians. One now sings with the Jay Sekulow Band along with the singer from Petra & other notables from various favorite bands. If you like music 🎶 from 70s - 90s,The Jay Sekulow Band is excellent! Just FYI

Find “Let there be Rock” when Angus’s guitar shits itself and how Malcom, Chris Slade and Cliff Williams keeps the hard rocking rhythm going for about 3 or 4 minutes. It really is amazing to watch and really opened my eyes up to how good a rhythm guitarist he was. RIP Malcom.

The thing about AC/DC is they were soo great that if they had never existed in their time, they could come out today as a brand new band and still take the world by storm. If AC/DC was a brand new band today, rock would suddenly become #1 genre again.

I was lucky enough to see them twice with Bon Scott. Changed everything for me in terms of music and what I listened to. Bought an SG and learned to play guitar. They were SOOOO good! The amount of sound that band produced live while still sounding so tight, and the energy they put into their shows (and their recordings), well, it's no wonder they're one of the most popular and hardest rocking bands ever.

They did an interview where Angus said that bobbing his head was how he kept count of the beat. If you ever watch a video and focus on Malcolm, you'll see he is doing the same thing, just not as noticeable. And so was the bass player. That is how they were able to keep their music so tight. They all kept in time with each other. Other bands could learn a lot from AC/DC.

This was actually never mentioned till was mentioned... Malcolm Young!! He was the quiet one, the one not on the spot and I also admit it... I've never mentioned before till it was mentioned. Malcolm Young was the engine in AC/DC. May he RIP Great Rock icon and can't never be replaced!! Great review by the way, very different and really good. Respect!!

Everyone took the lead from Mal. He was the one that controlled the tempo then Phil gave it that swing along with Cliff and then you had Angus. Pound for pound Phil is on of the best drummers around

74dart man True. Phil Rudd came over with a mate a few times and I remember he was saying how easy it was to start racing in the early days, the Bass would of course follow and the band were running around at 100mph. Haha Hard to imagine but it was early days ... feel old :-((

I grew up in Melbourne and got to see them as a teenager so many times in the 70's. They were a brilliantly tight band even then. I have never seen them since Bon died, still love them but he was it for me with the other boys. RIP Bon, you are a legend in this country!

I've watched this critique a few times now. During my time with Phil, if there was a song I'd make sure to be side stage for, it was this one. He just blew the roof off, each and every time. The thing is, Malcolm made the job a hell of a lot easier for the drummer. But here you see that Phil Rudd didn't even need Malcolm to do a perfect job. Simple but difficult music when it comes to rhythm and swing. Needless to say, the bass player is tight as a clock too. Just listen to some of the best AC/DC cover bands, then you clearly hear just how brilliant the originals were.

Agreed. I was a teenager when Bon died, and though Back in Black was a very cool "tribute album" to listen to when it came out.. I never bought any AC/DC music after that. IMO, a huge part of AC/DC was Bon's ability to do low and slow, dirty, nasty vocals. Something that was *totally* missing in Johnson's singing. =(

That whole live concert is incredible! Angus plays as if his SG is an extention of his body. His playing seems to come as naturally to him as breathing does for the rest of us. During those early years of AC/DC I was heavy into punk rock so I didn't really listen to those early records until about four years after Bon's death. And speaking of Bon Scott as far as I'm concerned there is no band without him. A friend of mine was signed to RCA in the mid 80's and was recording with his band in the Bahamas. The engineer of the studio told him that AC/DC were there a few weeks earlier and how Brian Johnson would achieve his high pitched vocals. He said that he sang quietly as to not damage his vocal cords and afterwards they would just bump them up in the mix. If it's true it just confirms my thoughts of him being a pale shadow compared to Bon Scott. There aren't many bands that equal the intensity of the Bon Scott years of AC/ DC.

Bought my first AC/DC album when I was 11. Back in black. June 23 1984. Seen them 8 times since. Simply awesome live. We'll miss them when they're gone but they're music will live on and inspire generations. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I've loved AC/DC since I was a kid in the third grade. I hate it when people say all their songs sound the same. TNT doesn't sound like Gimme' A Bullet...Let There Be Rock doesn't sound like Highway To Hell...maybe they use the same approach to song writing, but each record has it's own sound. You can easily hear how they grew as a band with each lp they released.

I discovered AC/DC in 5th grade when I happened to find my father's cassette of Dirty Deeds. I recognised the title track from hearing it on the radio, but you'll never hear the rest of that album on radio! Love at first feel, big balls, rocker... I was hooked... I bought their entire catalog by the time I graduated from high school, and every album since then as soon as they were released.

Kevin Baldwin - he really was not; he does not have the moves or exuberance to be the best. I have seen him with AC/DC and he is good, but nothing like as good as Freddie, or some others I have seen. At an AC/DC concert you are waiting for Angus; he is the star and the pyrotechnics of the band, the one you feast your eyes on, the one the audience want. When Angus comes forward Bon Scott fades into the background; the best frontmen would not have allowed that and would have taken Angus on as two whirling Dervishes.

These guys played the local pubs & halls in my home town of Bendigo, Victoria, Australia back in their early days in the 70’s. They were heading towards legendary status then & were still bloody great the last few times they’ve come back to Oz. Last tour here my then 17 year old daughter could not believe how Angus could throw his head around as he’s always done, let alone play the guitar so perfectly! You hit it spot on, they were so damn tight then & still are. RIP Bon & Malcolm.

Man, the memories that this song and AC/DC brings back: High school keg parties with AC/DC blasting... EIGHT of us deciding (at the last minute) to pile into a pickup truck (yes, a pickup truck!) and go see them in concert again, for the sixth time, and jamming right next to the stage. My ears rang for 2 days afterwards... Midnight swims at the lake with AC/DC blasting from the boat’s 8-track player... and I could go on and on. I love this band. So cool her husband just hung out with him a few times they actually even went on a riverboat together to gamble! Can you imagine! Oh Fil, you're killing me (in a good way!) with all your reviews of bands like AC DC. I was a teenager in the 1970s - such a fantastic era for music. It was wild!!! Saw AC DC in concert at the Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne, Australia in February 1981, with their massive bell. They used to be billed as "the loudest rock n roll band in the world". The night I saw them they were so loud they had to sedate all the patients in a nearby hospital!

Had to come back and revisit this. Phil and his drumming performance were recognized by all, and still to this day. Angus and his simple light-picking that comes through as monstrous, is also a rock pinnacle. Their tightness comes together if they are breathing and their hearts beating as if they are all one musician. Sure, there are many more complicated styles by drummers and guitar players. If you want to be somebody and want to know where to start, and when to know you have reached a player's top skill level, then you need to watch 70's ACDC. This is where rock and roll musicians in the modern era saw what a musician's nirvana looks like. ACDC was first ridiculed for being so simple, then forever praised by the best for what is the definition of solid/tight playing.

Indeed. AC/DC are the dictionary definition of "less is more". There's nothing more astounding, musically, hearing geniuses craft simplicity. I can make a correlation of this to Hip-Hop music: Lil Jon's production of "Yeah" by Usher. The song has as much staying power today as it did in 2003 and there are only five percussion instruments and three synths in the whole song, four simple patterns and no bridge. Pure perfection.

Music is definitely from the Australian pub rock scene of the 70s/80s. Just listen to the other bands of that era such as Cold Chisel, Midnight Oil, Rose Tattoo, The Angels and The Divinyls. Same approach to rock 'n' roll: earthy, bluesy rock music.

The Bon Scott version of AC/DC were and still are my favourite band. Unfortunately I only ever got to see them with Brian and nice guy though he is they are a different animal without Bon. Angus was still crazy ( Back in Black and FTATR tours) so I can't complain! I can see they leave you as breathless as they did me! So much energy! Phil and Cliff are a very underrated rhythm section and you rightly point out the rock solid drums. Great tone from the Sonor kit too. What a difference Angus is to someone like Michael Schenker who is an equally fabulous guitarist but it's like comparing Beethoven to Chuck Berry! One is dull to watch live but amazing to listen to and the other gives an amazing visual and aural experience

This live performance was shown on Swedish Television 1979 on "Öronaböj". It became there livealbum "If you want blood...". One of the best livealbums all time. My absolute fav is though "Fling thing // Rocker" from this live. I can recommend that for a reaction :)
