Winter Tarp Camping in a Snowy Valley

Had to pull a winter camping audible here, as I meant to build a snow fort. However there was not enough snow. Instead I pitched my favorite tarp configuration and did some campfire cooking.

Oh, I should have said this with my other post. For a hatchet, and I have had the old steel handle ones growing up with the rubber handle turning and about taking off your leg. I bought my dad a fiskars, X7 hatchet about 5 years ago..... He is in his late 70's now, he uses it without a problem. (Also, he leaves it outside all the time in the elements) No notice of it cracking or breaking.

Keep in mind the Silky only cuts aggressively when you are pulling back NOT forwards, like a lot of conventional saws of the past. You will consistently break a Silky if you really FORCE the forward st roke.

Another great one, Sam. I agree two saws is the way to go- "two is one, one is none." Still, I'll always go Agawa over Silky. Less work with the Agawa that cuts both ways instead of the Silky on only the back pull. But, I'm old and lazy. Great to see Gold Armour tarps still in action! Keep up the good work.

You did your favorite thing. Tarp camping. My favorite Sam Bananas video is a tarp one. Second favorite video is one too. It’s real camping. I guess that’s why I favor them. Too many things crawl year round in Louisiana for me to camp that way. If it’s not beer I usually stick to Crown. No particular reason. Habit I guess.

Hey Sammy 👋 I've got you on the phone and computer simultaneously. It's easier for me to comment on my phone . I never, ever use a grill that's not mine. An oven shelf is OK, but the old refrigerator shelves were cadmium plated. Bad news! In the air or in the food you put on it. Just DON'T. The best is an old bbq grill. They're cheap to free, at garage sales. Square or round. 🍻 Cheers and be safe!

Nice video but I’m curious why your taking water from the stream and checking it for debris instead of melting snow.

Because snow from the ground has much more debris in it.

If you are breaking hand saw blades you are trying to cut to hard on the push stroke. Hand saws are designed to do most of the cutting on the pull stroke. Slow down and do most of the cutting power on the pull stroke.
