Welcome to my Channel,
My name is James and I live full time in my tiny van, however this is not just a van life channel. I enjoy travel, food and drink and making videos 🙂
When I turned 50 I decided I’d had enough of the rat race and working long hours just to pay rent and bills, life was passing me by and I needed a drastic change.
FAQ
Where is Helen?
Helen has a responsible full time job and two children so unfortunately she can’t join me on every trip. I really wish she could.
What equipment do you use?
My vlogging camera is a GoPro Hero 9 but I also use my pixel 6a phone and Lumix G80 camera for other footage
For editing, I used Premiere Pro on an old laptop but I’m saving to buy a more powerful computer.
Do you have children?
Yes I have a 6yr old daughter who lives with her mum but I see her quite a lot. I don’t usually put her on the vlogs and if I do, I block out her face for privacy reasons. I also have a grown up son.
How do you fund your lifestyle?
I don’t need as much to live these days since going full time van life but I receive a small percentage of income from the ads that KZbin put on the videos.
Why the sponsored videos?
I only accept sponsorship from companies I use and trust, this is my fulltime job and my income, it’s how I support my family. (I have Patreon if you prefer videos with no ads).
How do I contact you?
Please contact me here: james@bythecurb.co.uk

It was so nice to hear you ring your mum every day. I'm now 60 and rang mine every day until last July when she died. I take great comfort in the fact I told her I loved her every day... nice vlog as usual, James. 👍🏻🙂

@@bythecurb That's the trick James, never be afraid to say it, I had a health scare at 28 and realised I rarely told her. It came as a shock when I started telling her every time we saw each other or spoke but I know it meant so much to her.

Hi James, you really are a hero. My wife and I used to do six months or so stealth camping in our Pozl van. Fortunately after trying the UK - beautiful as it is - we decided that Spain and Portugal was much, much better. Not just the weather and cheap vino but also the aires some with electricity. All power to you amigo!

James, i do like those few paragraphs just prior to the comments, a good update spot i think. I feel a top tip coming on as you finished your evening meal and it concerns cleaning dishes. Make up a spray (dont buy one just remember that the spray nozzle nearly always fits a pop bottle type screw, choose a small bottle and attach nozzle. Fill container with a half and half mix of white vinegar and water. It works a treat and the vinegar smell just disappears after a short while, nice clean dishes. Try it and report back :) Best wishes Mike in County Durham

Hathersage wasn't rammed when I was young. That place called Sangams used to be The Bradgate Buttery, and if you look up, you'll see a double B back to back . I worked there for a short while and watched an absolute craftsman create a coat of arms in plaster, on the back wall. John Little came from Hathersage, he was Robin Hood's right-hand man or Lieutenant (pronounced leftenant) . These men were opposed to king John who was a proper tyrant. They would roam the land and avoid being captured, and the area that they covered was vast . Loxley was relatively close to Sheffield, and today is within its expanding boundaries. The sheriff of Nottingham was a particular enemy of the band of outlaws. There's far more to the story than meets the eye, and many want to dismiss it as "legend " but don't forget that the wicked king John was eventually forced to sign The Magna Carter. History is repeating itself with tyrants today claiming that it's been repealed, but a Law carrying a king's signature cannot be repealed, ever.

Robin Hood and his Merry Men is a STORY ‼️ And like all good stories, has an element of truth to them. King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table is another STORY. However, I 'Grant' you, John, Dick Turpin actually existed ... along with his Horse. Pinocchio is a STORY too 😅😅😅😅

James, if you go to Poundland, you can pick up a 'grabber' with a long handle that you can use to pick up any litter (if you choose to!) they used to be a pound but of course they may well be more expensive now...thye are not very sturdy, but are fine for picking up other peoples' snotty tissues! Also as I know space is a premium in a small van, it won't take up too much room.

Loving the Vlog James, it brings back many happy memories of walking from Edale to Grindleford Cafe with my two Weimaraners when I was in my late teens/early twenties. Fast forward to today and as a fellow Yorkshire man who entered his 50th year last year, I transformed my life in Tenerife in December by buying a man bag (fanny pack) and it is the most practical thing the modern man can have, all of my travel documents in one convenient place and plenty of space for my mobile, wallet and leatherman (if you haven't got one of them yet then you need to sort yourself out).

Ninja pretty awesome for cooking though it's a little on the bulky side. pans a doddle to clean.. Wonder if they do a mini sized 3 in 1 pressure, slow cooker, saute. Can proper cook from scratch with a ninja. Can even bake a loaf in it. British army strength ninja.

Good to see you’re a member of the ‘mucky b*ggers club’ like me James. That looked a fascinating tented cafe/pub you we’re in, it’s a shame it’s going soon, it was unusual & added some character to the village. So off you were living your Van life in the cold, wet and fog. Lovely. Hathersage was pleasant - I bet in the Summer it’s really nice to visit. Thanks again James for a good video. Never mind the bad weather, it happens in Winter, even on the South Coast. 💕💕💕💕

As soon as I receive notification of your latest video I become both curious and impatient. Why? Your intros. Actually , your ' soundtrack', too. You never fail to surprise; you never fail to entertain our ears. You have become a maestro, young man!
