Dual analog works great on GTA III out of the box with the latest firmware update! with analog triggers! I still need to learn to remap a few buttons, but it works amazingly well. Perhaps worth an updated video.

@@TynologyGaming I have the Brook Wingman SD Bluetooth controller dongle and did use that type of control scheme for both Shenmue 1 and 2, as well as for Gundam Side Story 0079: Rise from the Ashes. Controlling mech with D-pad and using right stick to look and aim was much better.

One of the best features is being able to map the D-Pad to the LB, L3, R3 or View/Share buttons. A lot of Dreamcast games use the D-Pad for extra functions due to the lack of buttons on the controller.

What do you mean add new controls? Just gotta remap face buttons used as wasd to left stick and the left stick used as mouselook in game to right stick, same as some of the FPS games shown. L is jump snd R shoot (or might have to reverse those too, I forget atm). D-pad is used for things like weapon/ammo switching and item activation/throwing. It works great reconfigured as such in emulation so should work great with this remapping tool too. Great game and best version, prior to the relatively recent remaster (and still the hardest version, all others since PS2 nerf it). Really polished, underrated game. Its problem is how good and fun the Kurt levels are so it kinda bothers you when forced to play as the other two characters and especially the unconventional Doc. We need MDK3 with that ending already.

Unreal Tournament has a configuration preset for the Panther DC. Using the blue retro, the only issue I had was that fire/jump was attached to the face buttons. You'll have to adjust the buttons via the blue retro software to place those buttons where we you want them (L, R). Again, the Dreamcast registers my Xbox One controller as a Panther DC, so we have analog moving and looking. Fabulous!

Not sure how normal this is but I had a lot of issues connecting my Blueretro to access all these backend features where as pairing and using controls was fine, even picked up inputs through half a foot of concrete. I spent hours between my PC, Steam Deck and Samsung S24 trying to get this all to playball. To finally be able to get my firmware updated and access those features I had to sit my phone ontop of the Blueretro. this was the only way I could reliably maintain a connection as soon as the two were a few inches apart the connection would be lost. That being said the unit itself is a great compliment to the dreamcast and I've finally been able to pack those extension cables away! Being able to use the 8bitdo fight stick is a Dream.

I did something like this but all I used was the 8-Bitdo sn pro 30 and the brook wingman xb. You can do all the configurations and set profiles with the Sn pro 30 app

I think just one VMU is supported (didn’t try to fill it up so not sure of total number of blocks). Jump pack should be available for all four controllers though.

Thank you! When you set up your BlueRetro device, there is now the ability to emulate a VMU on the BlueRetro itself. Obviously you won’t have the VMU screen but if it’s activated, just boot to your DC home menu and go to the VMU manager, it will ask you to format/initialize the VMU and then you can save games as normal. Basically the BlueRetro itself acts as your VMU and can be used the same. If you want to use an actual VMU, just plug it into a controller on another port while using the BlueRetro also

When it’s plugged into a controller port, the DC sees it as a real VMU. Games save the same as one of those screenless VMUs from back in the day. Just have to first “initialize” it without a game in the first time and then it just works

There’s a Panther Dreamcast controller with a flight style joystick and a roller ball. I wonder if this could be coded to act like the roller ball. Then you wouldn’t have to mess with the stick swapping

There are settings to use the panther style, but different games handle inputs differently. Sometimes using mouse look on the right stick is best, other times the panther input is ideal (from what I remember). I do wish there was a way to save configs game-by-game though

It actually does both! The “GamePad Alt” selection automatically accesses the second analog function (like Panther and twin sticks), and everything can be remapped in the interface as well. I also saw there are button combo shortcuts to swap between GamePad and GamePad Alt without having to launch the config also

How are you suppose to aim in Solider of Fortune if you remapped the Analog Stick or Left Stick to the Face Buttons? The Analog Stick or Left Stick is how you Aim. You Can't use the Mouse to aim because you only have 2 hands and you need both of them to hold the controller. What do you move the mouse with, your foot? You use the Right Trigger for Attack (Fire Gun) so you need both hands on the controller and you Can't reassign the Left Trigger to Attack

I have the settings in the description: SOLDIER OF FORTUNE SETTINGS: BR Settings: GamePad Alt Remap Left Stick to be ABXY Remap Right Stick to be Left Stick In more detail: Inside of the Blueretro config, make sure you're on GamePad Alt (it should always be this), then you remap the left stick to be the corresponding ABXY face buttons (Left stick down=A, right=B, left=X, up=Y) then remap the right stick to use the left stick inputs (Right stick down= left stick down, etc). When you play the game it will control just like a modern FPS.

There are presets for games and I know they want to add custom presets. I believe these settings were added to the official presets also. These are kind of edge cases specifically for games that can support dual stick support, but yes going in and swapping would be necessary between games if you’re using a custom layout

Emulation is totally fine. I capture most footage through emulation. Growing up and having a Dreamcast, there’s something special about using that hardware, perhaps it’s just nostalgia. I always opt for the PC versions of any FPS games, as I too am a M&K player. Getting M&K set up on the DC has always been a bit clunky anyway

Dreamcast Controller, Awesom Kickass controller except for the D-Pad that sucks for maze games because it keeps going up or down if you don't perfectly push left or right, same is true with up and down ,it's annoying when you are trying to move up or down in the MODE menu and it strays right or left and changes options. D-Pad is OK for moving around in a open world game. Analog stick is great, no drift problem like other systems by the other guys.

So in the BlueRetro config, set it to "GamePadAlt", this enables the second analog stick. I also suggest dropping the right analog stick sensitivity to 25% (otherwise it's way too sensitive). Then in the game, just remap the controller as you like (step left and right map to the left stick most importantly). Then adjust the "mouse" sensitivity to your liking for the right stick. You can see me doing this at 7:20

Can you get as many people contact retro fighters to make a programmable controller with a dual analog stick, I love their controller but I think it needs a second stick.

The issue is that every game that can potentially use a second stick in a modern sense uses the inputs differently. And no platformers (including Sonic Adventure, etc) don’t have second stick support. This didn’t become standard until 2002/2003 after Mario Sunshine unfortunately. So even if they did add a second stick, it wouldn’t do much without extensive configuration from game to game

@@TynologyGaming that is why I said programmable controller with a secondary right analog stick, this way you can change the bindings to make the controller work exactly for each specific game the way you would want them to, Infact the retro fighters controller already has useless shoulder buttons and analog clicking that has zero function, making them programmable and switching their bindings would definitely help make them actually useful rather than a useless function.

It’s not fully free look but you can program the right stick to mirror L & R and at least get left and right camera movement

@TynologyGaming OK, thanks for the tip! I'll try that out. Yesterday I tried desperately to set the X button to RT on my XBox Series Controller for outtrigger. Unfortunately, it didn't work. Do you have any idea what I should look out for here? It's set to twin stick and I made the change as described on the BlueRetro site.

I have everything you're showing but how do I get into the blueretro configuration ? Do I have to put my Dreamcast Sd card with games into laptop or is there another way to link all of this . To adjust configurations ? I'm confused about all of this . I heard the part about bluetooth but I'm still confused about how all of this can connect .

It connects via Bluetooth, doesn’t have anything to do with the SD/GDEmu. When plugged in, you hold the sync button then use a phone or computer with Bluetooth and go to blueretro.io in a browser, connect to the device to configure it in your browser via the web interface

I'm unable to expand the .bin file for the firmware on my MacBook Pro because it says it's an unsupported format. Did you use a specific program to unzip it?

Bin files aren’t compressed so no need to unzip. Not sure what you’re tryin to do though.

Every game works fine with default config. If you want to fine tune for a specific game, you would probably want to switch back to default if you switch games or use another special config to avoid unintended control mapping

With the new firmware update the device has a built in VMU, just have to enable it. You can also use a normal controller with a VMU in another port if you prefer, but not necessary. Just be sure to initialize/format the BlueRetro VMU in the Dreamcast menu

Thanks for the support! Soul Reaver may be tough because of the way the camera is tied to the character’s movement (like Super Mario 64), but has that free look mode which I don’t think you can move while doing. I’ll have to dive back in to see if I can get anything working

You didn't say how to connect a PC to the BlueRetro Device, you didn't say what the IP Address for it is or Website for BlueRetro.

Unless I have a defective unit (I got it from Ali X press) , it does not support the X-Box One Controller (Model 1708) properly, The Y Button can't be assigned to Y, it's assigned to Z and you have to set X = Y to get X to function as X but f you set Y = X Y won't function as Y but still functions as Z and there is no Z Button on a X-Box Controller. You can't set it to Z=Y either so there is no way to get Y to function. Also you can't assign Menu to Start but the Right Bumper is Start. All other buttons and Triggers work correctly. The Triggers operate as Analog buttons and the Analog Stick work properly as well as the D-Pad. The Support from the manufacture sucks they only have a Discard page for support, no support directly from the manufacture other than maybe Email to someone in China that has a poor knowledge of the English language an will not understand any complex questions and just respond in a generic way to questions like Power Cycle you Game console and make sure the batteries are fully charged in your controller and make sure you have the latest firmware installed on the Blue Retro Adapter. Firmware 24.10.

Your configuration must be wrong. Without configuring my Xbox One controller worked perfect. This is a very “tinker” product for sure. One person built it, it’s entirely open source and a few manufacturers are producing it to further development. This is not a major manufacturer making millions with a customer service team or anything like that. I can try to help, send me a screenshot of your configuration as I’m certain it’s an issue with that

How does the VMU work?

Make sure it’s activated in the settings, then boot the DC and initialize the VMU, then it works just as normal (obviously no screen or anything just saves games like a VMU would normally)

Yep! There are several devices for N64. I’m not sure about how emulators handle controllers, but I’m sure it’s possible

I made a couple videos about how using the original controller and console is ideal. This is for all the people whining about not liking the controller. It has a virtual vmu for game saves and if you want the screen you can always still use plug in controllers.

I know this is a month old but, As a SEGA fan. Anything but a SEGA controller which now there are plenty of choices via Retro Fighters and others. Anything that is NOT Sega or styled in SEGA's style. Is just heresy to me. It's kind of a blasphemy to do that. It's like using Sony gamepads to control Nintendo 64 or SNES. It's just wrong and off. That said, people can do what they want and that's okay, I believe in freedom. For me, I will be sticking to SEGA styled options. Like 8bitDo and Retro fighters etc.

I said most games before 2002 did not utilize dual analog sticks which is absolutely true. Mario Sunshine (2002) was the first 3D platformer to use modern dual analog controls, and Halo standardized the control for FPS games at the end of 2001. The point is that I could only find 2-3 games that used dual sticks (movement left, camera right) when the Dreamcast was discontinued in March 2001

It's so Annoying that you can't use a Atari 2600 Joystick on the Dreamcast and how Arcade Sticks are Way too expensive. D-Pads are horrible for playing Maze Games like Pac Man because they so many times will move horizontal and vertical (diagonal at the same time making it so you move totally the way you don't want to move. It's too hard to be precise with any D-Pad if you can't press the direction you want to accurately. I have a wired adapter that will allow a Genesis or Atari VCS Joy Stick Controller to be use on a Wii via its Game Cube Ports and when I use the Atari Joystick it's way easier and more accurate to control Pac Man or Ms Pac Man with it compared to using even an a official Sega brand 3 button or 6 button controller.
