Such a nostalgic feeling Gita Mam 🥰 It’s like my mom asking me to follow all these rules in my childhood... Well I’m very glad to say that we still follow most of it even today at home. Like not drinking water through touching our lips on the glass, eating on the table and cleaning it with water immediately and then take a cloth n wipe it. Never touch any vessels while eating n draw rangoli every day n I can go on ... 😃 Although sometimes I get annoyed with my husband for being so particular but I know it’s for hygiene. We were never allowed to put plates on our lap n eat... oh god my mom would have killed me 😅... Like you said Madi means cleanliness and nothing more. It’s not for one particular community it’s for all of us... Thank you so much Gita Mam 🙏🏻 it’s really nostalgic 😍

Wonderful subject matter. By reviving our culture, our life styles, our traditionally followed hygiene factor only, will lead to health & happiness of mankind. I too grew up in such surroundings where all what Gita ma'am said was practised. Now a days due to practical issues, a few adaptations have been made though. Priceless words of wisdom dear Gita.Cleanliness is definitely Godliness. If we wish to see this precious legacy move on to the future generations,we have to live it & be role models for a drastic change in lifestyles...this pandemic has woken up many from a deep slumber but we should be aware that if we respected our ancient traditions & our stellar Constitution....all the ills of our society that are created by us would not hv existed.Have we bothered to imbibe these values in our society where according to the National Centre for Disease Control,India...nearly 2000 die every day from diarrhoea & over 1200 from TB (the biggest killers in our country) other than heart & respiratory diseases. You hv contributed tremendously in these aspects by counselling & imparting excellent healthy food habits. I personally feel that in order to achieve the goal of being in the top 10 slot of the HDI graph,we should appreciate & adopt the best practices of the world.

My parents told me these things time and time again and I've grown to imbibe these values and retain some even though I live in a different country. I don't want to bring up a communal argument here, but we as a community followed all these practices as a way of life and not as a last minute precaution. I would like to add just one more to your list- With due respect to everyone's food habits, Vegetarianism is a healthy lifestyle. Pranams and much love to you Aunty 🙏🏼

Such a beautiful explaination, I remember my childhood, my mother was very very strict in terms of hygiene, she used to make us wash our own clothes, we had our own separate bath soaps with soap dish for each child, and even separate plates for food, which after food, we ourselves had to wash our own plates, and keep for drying neatly. We had to remove our slippers before entering the house and wash hands and feet then only enter the house. Once in a while the heavy brass vessel, the copper vessels were taken out of the kitchen and scrubed meticulously by us children and left to dry in the sun. The kitchen was then deep cleaned, all the racks and shelves were cleaned thoroughly before reassembling all utensils back into the kitchen..we used to use tamarind paste, and 'pitambari' powder to scrub the brass and copper vessels till they gleam in sunlight. In summers during our school holidays all the women of house hold would be busy preparing ' hapla', Pappads, green chilli dipped in curd which were then sun-dried on clean clothes spread on the terrace and varranda. also lots and lots of those ceramic jars called , 'Bhaarani' were filled with raw green mango pickles, lots of bhyadagi red chillies were layed out in the sun to dry. This chilli was then made into masalas and stored for year long use. I remember my grandmother grinding coconut masala on a big huge round stone. And it was a very heavy stone. Most of the food was prepared in mud pots, so delicious.
