As someone who grew up as a lutherian christian in germany, I never really understood how America is so fond of christianity, as Jesus himself is described by the evangelist Luke as pretty much anti-capitalist, pretty much stating, that its almost impossible for rich people to go to heaven and low key feminist, as he allows Maria to sit with the men and even berates Martha for not doing so, basically equaling out gender roles. Jesus was also obviously a very tolerant man, as when explaining his love thy neighbour policy he pretty much explicitly says that every single person in the world, no matter who they are, where they come from or what they believe in and look like is said neighbour, pretty much a one world one love hippie sentiment. All of this feels really far away from the people who are most interested in christianity these days, especially in the US. Do christians in the US not emphasize the evangelion as much? Do they just look over the Jesus part and stay in the old testament?
@erzsebetkovacs2527Ай бұрын
As someone who was raised Catholic in Hungary, visiting Lutheran church services in Germany somehow felt strange to me, like, you can do that with all this, too? I think it all goes to show that you can build either a very strict and authoritarian or a "lefty" community on the core tenets of Christianity. Examples for the former are medieval Catholicism and the Puritans in early America, while for the latter, are Catholicism nowadays with Pope Francis or Christian churches in Germany.

@ezmackgaming24 күн бұрын
So many of the people that emphasize Jesus as a hippy or socialist tend to just gloss over the "Go forth and sin no more" aspects of Jesus. As for your interpretation of his love thy neighbor policy, he most definitely did not accept people no matter what they believe in, as he said that those who deny Me before man he shall deny before the Father. Loving thy neighbor isn't just accepting them as they are, but includes an imperative toward righteousness.

Soooo, instead of the logical, historical, and straightforward conclusion of "capitalism leads directly to fascism", he says "democracy leads directly to electing Hitler". And even crazeir, his solution to that is "Why not just jump to Hitler right away?", because he also believes "Hitler was a swell guy, actually". The insanity is that this is clearly absurd and contradictory, even on the most basic level, but people will actually swallow it, just because this is the narrative they are most likely to encounter. No mainstream media would dare counter this with even mild sanity, and sadly, the reach the internet is not as wide to be an effective counterbalance. Get ready for WWIII, people. Yarvin has criticized capital saying that "growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell" and that this mechanism may be one of the drivers of the "inevitable collapse" he refers to in this video. I don't follow Yarvin extensively, but an element that is rather central is to pierce the veil of the American system hence the red pill/ the matrix aphorism. People are brought up to believe things about the way American government works only to become distraught over it not functioning the way they think it does. When thinking of America as a monarchy he often cites FDR as an example of American monarch. A good portion of Yarvin's world view seems to stem from looking at the world as it is rather than as we're told it is or how it should be. It's not necessarily that Yarvin prefers monarchy, although he does proclaim himself a monarchist, but through examining how American government actually operates contrary to it's founding document and principles that it effectively already operates as a monarchy with many lords(ceos) but no one king to unite the realm to whom those lesser lords are beholden. CEOs/corporations can just ride out a presidency and use money and influence to install a more favorable president(monarch) when their term is over leading to a cucked executive branch to go along with a feckless legislative branch. The ship of state at present is not just rudderless, it's without drive adrift upon the open sea. People often think of the American government and constitution as this blueprint for a machine that's supposed to produce diamonds, but instead yields turds. You can either come to the conclusion that it is a diamond machine and has been adulterated over time to produce turds or that it was never a diamond machine and instead was a turd factory from the outset. The one thing you can't do is gaze upon the turds and call them diamonds, or rather you can, but no one else is obligated to believe you. There is the belief that monarchy is bad because you might get a bad king, which is a valid concern. However, democracy has the same flaw, but rather than a bad king you run the risk of a lousy citizenry which was a concern expressed by the founders from the outset. A bad king can be deposed and replaced, but what of a lousy citizenry? The Democrats seem intent upon replacing the citizenry, but not due to lousiness, but as a means to cover up the shoddiness of the Democrats. There's a quote I've seen from people Yarvin adjacent which is, "Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard." You can complain about how terrible the government is until the cows come home, but at the end of the day you have to remember that you voted for it.

Questioning Capitalism is really not that easy for people coming out from the end of the cold war and neoliberal philosophy. It's often sold as human nature, a parallel of nature's survival of the fittest in economic form. That's also why free markets are an ideological ideal: It's just natural. Now they are not neoliberals and steering the market isn't a tabu anymore, but to question our capitalistic system is akin to questioning natural laws for them. So of course they need to look for other explanations elsewhere. Scary and frustrating that tech bros who have a lot of fans and support (and if they don't have it, they buy it) are going down this rotten path and drag US politics with them.

@shivandragon16512 ай бұрын
We've moved away from capitalism though, I'd argue we are not a capitalist structure, but we are a capitalist society. I think the thing that gets people the most imo is that people think it's inherently going to produce big corporations. But that's only unregulated capitalism if you look at the Nordic countries and most of Europe they are in no way shape or form a socialist society but much closer to the idea of capitalism they have smaller businesses that make them a lot more resilient and form more of a competitive environment which is good for the consumer bc it's driving the prices down while in most socialist society it's one of more usually an oligopoly which drives prices up due to no competition in the market. Plus if you are allowed to own your own business aren't you technically owning the means of production straight up like think ab it the issue is no one has a steak in anything anymore so allow people to start their own business and make profit and I bet you the city's will get better not worse, it's not for selfish greed until it's corporate.

In fact, if anything, the author affirms (agrees with) very clearly the quote from Vance, starting at 26:50. The author agrees that “much of what Vance says is true” and then goes on to agree 100% with the Vance quote he referenced. I have no idea who all these people are, how fringe or not they are, but the author hasn’t provided anything that would indicate that these guys’ philosophies align directly with how Vance sees the world or would govern. You summed it up when you said, "it's just a sign that you're stupid." Democratic processes may or may not lead to the will of the People being implemented. There is are strong reasons to believe the results of Democratic processes only approximate rather than reflect the will of the People, especially in the Winner Takes All system of voting. Decision Theory rightfully points out a ranked order system would be superior. At its core, the reason Democracy is better than non-democratic processes is because peaceful transfer of power is possible under the system of law. In other systems the law does not provide a means for the People to replace an oppressive ruler. It requires violent insurrection. Long term peace is the most important factor of all for economic growth, prosperity, and human flourishing. It is not accidental that the most powerful and rich nations are those where it has been the longest since bombs and artillery destroyed the infrastructure. Even if all of the criticisms of Democracy are true, this simple fact that no other system can provide the means of a peaceful transfer of power under conditions of changing opinions makes Democracy/Republicanism (not Republican like American Republicans, republican like the Roman Republic) the best political system available. Ironically, Moldbug is not a very good philosopher, even for people pushing these kinds of ideas. Indeed, these are the people that pushed me away from libertarian ideology with their authoritarianism and incredibly lazy thinking. Hans Hoppe, who shares similar ideas to these, is at least kind of a "real" philosopher in the sense he actually makes philosophical arguments. Moldbug isn't a philosopher: he's a guru.

What's interesting to me is that the Christian traditions that seem to be the most Christian-nationalist are baptists or non-denominationals (which are just baptists). Historically, baptists tended to be the victims of established churches and were often persecuted and censored by the government. Because of this, baptists have tended to be wary of established churches and hierarchical authority structures, which is why in baptist denominations, churches have very little power over one another. Historically and theologically, baptists being Christian nationalists is strange. If they looked at their own history they would see that blending church and state only works well for the flavor of Christianity in power... until that flavor falls out of power. They forget that what led the baptist tradition to flourish and have the political power it does was the separation of church and state.

You already have a connection between a church and a state. You have always had a connection between a church and the state and you will continue to always not live in the fantasy land contrived by a handful of unaware enlightenment-era thinkers like John Locke, Voltaire, and Jefferson. You just believe that there is a very special difference between your ideological edifice and that of some other religion, because yours is "politics" while the other is "religion". Politics inherently involves decisions about ethical matters which often derive from religious belief or cannot be empirically verified in some idealized neutral "objective" point of view.

As Dr. David Viscott perfectly describes in all his work, specially in his book "Language of Feelings" he mentions the three basic human characteristics: the "Competitive", the "Dependent" and the "Controllers". Most wealthy people are clueless and very hypocritical, due to their sheltered upbringing, they want to be loved but, couldn't recognize real love that abounds naturally in all living beings. This child -daddy /surf-king is a response to their own perpetual denial, rejecting reality, worse of all is the proof of our fragile existence. It is not a joke or a stage, (typical euphemisms) the complexity blinds them. They will intentionally lie and build a whole pseudo-civilization around that given lie. To me it is just a story they made up, but because they also have the means to promote the lie (story) to push their narrative (on all the dependent folks) despite obvious flaws. While in the background you'll find the hoax's masters (Competitive minded) crafting the latest show, gala, lawmakers, starlit paraphernalia, weapons aimed at the dissenters...
