The plaid has no induction motor. It uses 3 permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance motors. By shifting the phase of the stator magnetic field to suppers the permanent magnetic field of the rotor, the motor can spin at partial load on reluctance only without generating eddy current losses in the stator, even at high RPM. Only a fixed reduction suffices No need for gears, clutch or even rear differential as each rear wheel is independently driven hence differential and even dynamic torque vectoring is implemented exclusively in software control

great informative video again! Keep this kind of info coming! Also would like to see this kind of technical indepth reviews of other interesting EV's. Just saw the release of the Kia EV6GT, which in performance figures could be competing with the Porsche but for a much lower price. Different target groups of course, but Kia did a great job with the powerfull GT version looking at the first review video's...

Thanks for the very nice reply! We will probably do more when we get some interesting cars in, but we simply do not have the capacity to do it for every vehicle, as these videos are very niche yet require a lot of research. Even the "standard AWD" version of the EV6 I drove at Fully Charged impressed, so can't wait to try out the GT. Martin

Good to see the 800v vs 400v charging speeds explained properly! 👌🏻

The first part of the 800/400V comparsion is basically pointless because noone really thinks or claims that 800V charging is less harmful for the battery. It's all about reducing the maximum current as you describe in the second part. But 15:19 does not make much sense also - "more current means more torque FOR THE SAME MOTOR DESIGN". This is true but obviously you just design the motor differently for a 800V system. Half the current but twice the number of turns in the winding will give you exactly the same amount of torque. That's not really the reason Porsche uses a two speed gearbox.

Every design has strong and weak points, what matters is, has the team made good use of highs and minimized lows. I would love to see a technical debate between Porsche and Tesla teams, otherwise no simple math and physics help, unless you want to fool yourself, to rephrase Einstein. And most importantly specs do not matter after a certain point. If I can go 0 to 60 in one second this is not better than in five, esp if it is uncomfortable. Tesla has a long way to improve beyond acceleration, charging speed and efficiency in building a competent and reliable auto. Porsche has a century of experience in the latter, and not much in the former. Tesla is the other way around. For a first try, Taycan is impressive, and it will evolve. Where Tesla will evolve is not clear, they invested heavily in autonomy, which did not quite happen, and otherwise think they are perfect, a great way to lose

Plaid vs TTS 30% more efficient, 35% more range 50% more power, all that at 50% of the price. No contest in the drivetrain area Porsche does have better handling and much better finish and quality

Clearly a Porsche hater/Tesla fanboy. Despite that an interesting video, not sure many, in fact any, Taycan owners will care about any of the negatives to be honest.

What about the elephant in the room? - the Taycan battery damaging, cheap, onboard charger issue? Reports, especially from a Porsche whistle blower and others, seem to confirm that Porsche continue to ship around 60% Taycans with this built-in problem. As reported by The Electric Viking - Sam Evans recently.
