I am SO happy u noticed that Amity didn't actually know she was cheating. Believe it or not, a lot of reactors miss that. I think the environment in which Amity grows up is already shown to be very sad. She constantly worries abt being the best, has to keep distance from anyone who can potentially harm her future and it's clear her teacher Lilith just uses her to gain certain results, with no regard for Amity's interests. It contrasts so much with Luz, who doesn't really care abt how she looks, has a lot of friends now and has Eda, who might not be the best teacher, but who genuinely cares for her. Amity might be more successfull, but Luz is definitely happier.

Dana Terrace is a complete media nerd and she loves to show it. The show's full of references to Dragon Ball, Pokémon, and now that I think of it the whole coven system is very similar to Divergent. Though that last one might just be a coincidence.

The big one for this show is actually Star Trek Deep Space 9. All the child characters are based on characters from that show. King, The Emperor, and [spoiler] are similarly based on Odo, Gul Dukat, and the wormhole aliens/prophets from DS9.

Big Spoilers: A lot of different nerdy references, but I think overall the show is sort of a Pokemon Sun and Moon fanfic (that's not meant as an insult. I absolutely love this show.) There are a lot more sneaky Pokémon references than anything else, not to mention the giant Beast Ball the Collector is in (also, the fact that he literally is a collector.) King was originally colored like Cubone as well, and currently his fur's the color of Alolan Marowak. He gains his powers when he first cries about his parent... Lilith may be a better teacher but Eda is more loving. Lilith and Amity are largely just using each other. As the head of the Emperor's Coven, Lilith has a lot of sway over who can get in and could even fast-track her career. Amity comes from a wealthy background and her parents are well-connected.

25:18-25:24 Point Number 2 of Eda’s Curse representing chronic health; The weathering of debilitating health. When the sisters finally talk near the end of the episode, Lilith mentions how Eda’s appearance shocked her. In truth, they are only like a year or two apart, yet because of the curse, Eda’s seemed to age to be a ways older than she actually is. Lilith looks like she could pass for 30~40s, right? Eda’s the younger of the 2 sisters, so…yeah, you can see how much the curse has affected her life, if the stress has caused her hair to grey in her 30s/40s. There should still be some pigmentation. Illness doesn’t always do this, but it could be fair to say that one may have dark circles under the eyes when dealing with debilitating health conditions. Liver spots, rashes, noticeably bad posture, all telltale signs that somebody’s going through a LOT for their body to exhibit physical signs. And for Lilith to phrase it in a way that suggests she didn’t recognize Eda at first, it could mean they weren’t on bad terms for too long. She makes it sound like she saw her yesterday as someone completely different, y’know. Eda’s been going through it, to get that reaction 😕

I don't think it's just stress, since... well, we'll see more of the curse's secondary effects in season 2. But yes, Lilith is two years older than Eda and doesn't look it at all.

Ah, some real witch duel-awesomeness! It is true that Eda's curse does cause her to age faster than normal. But of course she will never let an opportunity slide to get back at her "prissy sister". The coven system is an interesting thing definitely. You caught on fast that the school tracks correspond to the different covens that witches are expected to join when they grow up. A very strict, controlling system that a free-spirit like Eda obviously despises. Funfact: There is actually a reason why Principal Bump has that...imp-thing on his head. But unfortunately you will have to wait until season 2 to learn what it is XD.

Oh hey I forgot to comment on this one! Welcome back to the VA Hour! Edna’s sister Lilith is voiced by Cissy Jones, who also voices The Absolute in Baldur’s Gate 3, Delilah in Firewatch, and Dr Duff in Fallout 4. Kikimora, the little goblin that calls Lilith at the end of the episode is voiced by Mela Lee, who also voices Lifeline in Apex Legends, Tikki in Miraculous Ladybug, and Caroline Cordovin in RWBY. Grey Griffin voices a few background characters, who is best known for a few roles like Azula from ATLA. The kid who makes his head big makes a named appearance in the show, and he’s voiced by Jorge Diaz, who also has a few other roles in other shows like Dead End: Paranormal Park and Elena of Avalor.

This shows an interesting aspect of Luz's personality. In "I was a teenage abomination," we see her willing to pretend to be an abomination, both to see the Hexside, and to help Willow. She does not even think twice about the fact that it would mean that she is helping Willow cheat to get a good grade. Yet, in this episode, she does not want to cheat in her duel with Amity, saying it would not be fair. That means Luz is willing to help others cheat to get what they want, but is unwilling to cheat to help herself. It is kind of the reverse of what many people would do.

The music coven is called the Bard coven! And Oracle isn’t always seeing the future, which we see later on :) also the tenth coven is the Emperor’s coven, which is gold and white; universal magic basically

I’m not sure if you check comments, but if you’re open to show recommendations, I think you’d really enjoy Tangled The Series (Though, I think the name has been changed to Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure). It’s got a lot of amazing music throughout the show, and it makes logical and genuinely interesting expansions on the lore of the movie. On top of that, the characters are extremely lovable, including the newer characters that weren’t originally in the movie. It just seems like something you’d enjoy a ton :) If you do end up deciding to watch it, be aware that there’s an hour long special that sets up for the first episode. Everything is a little confusing if you don’t have that context, lol. Anyways, sorry for the duper long comment. Excited to see more Owl House videos! I can't wait for you to get further into the show, because it gets insanely good.

Also, just a heads up: Though this show is an absolute *masterpice*, the first half of season one kind of....... drags, scince most of the episodes follow a very traditional idea of "kids show shenenigans", so don't feel too pressured to have something to say or make the videos longer. Just saying what you think or what it reminds you of is always entertainig anyway! Come the second half of season 1 however, it's baisically banger after banger

Eda IS only in her mid-40s (in fact, Lilith is a year older). But she did gray early (which in humans I think happens a lot for red-heads) and the curse caused the white streak in her hair. Otherwise, it would just be the darker gray all around

This is the point where im confused on why Disney wouldn't jump on this as their answer to Harry Potter. Of course the show is opposed to the coven system, but Star Wars isn't pro-empire either. Could easily have coven themed merch, plushies galore, and its a better story and Dana Terrace is very much not a Terf, but Disney sucks so get your Owl House merch off Etsy!
