41:30 - Nikki never got 3VP for completing her route. She was at 2VP at the start of her turn and should've moved up to 10VP (3 + 2 + 3). 55:25 - Lincoln's Witch Action cost to move on Dave's yellow route is 2 Witch Actions, and not 1. One action stands up the witch and moves it along your own routes, but each foreign route used costs 1 more Witch Action. This is weird cause Dave teaches it correctly at 11:45, and then he plays it correctly on his turn at 1:11:47. 1:17:00 - After doing all of his Crystal Actions, Lincoln finishes his turn and forgets to use the single Energy Action (?) @Xan Man - 1:17:40 Deb doesn't get 6VP for her 3 sized route. 1:20:23 - Deb gives Dave an extra 2VP. He started the turn w/ 24VP on the track and stood up 3 witches for 6VP. He should be at 30VP, not 32VP. 1:26:20 - The Witch Actions for movement on foreign routes is played incorrectly two times on Nikki's turn. Nikki's green witch moving across Lincoln's red route should cost 2, leaving Nikki w/ only 2 Witch Actions, not 3. Then at 1:27:00 she 'adds a witch to the board' (1WA), 'stands it up and moves it' (1WA), it then moves across 2 foreign routes (2WA). This would cost a total of 4 Witch Actions. 1:33:28 - Nikki should move 3 on the Pentagram track, not 2. 1:34:15 - Dave tells Nikki she gets to place 1 more energy on the board from the wand track. This should only be 1 energy total, as she is not in the lead on the wand track.

I've listened to two seconds so far, but before I take in the goodness that is the latest episode, I have to say that even if I wasn't already a fan, I would have wanted to watch this video just from the thumbnail.

I love game night videos, and am very curious about this game. However, there were parts where the camera would not cut from Nikki and Dave. Love them, but I would have loved to see what was happening on the boards when people were taking their turns.

I'm guessing that was likely because their overhead camera cut out.

Sad in the middle of the game we could not see what you all were doing. It made it hard to watch the game.

Yeah, whomever was editing there was too much attention on the players and not enough on the board.

Right! Even though they are describing what they are doing, I want to see what's going on on the board. I don't know the game and to follow I need to see what's happening in the game. Weird editing.
@AndreasKungl2 жыл бұрын
Like always, I more than appreciate the production value of your videos. Nevertheless, this time the edit seems off for a couple of minutes right after the one hour mark. Something has been edited out there at one point, after which you don't see the whole board and what people are doing exactly for a little while. Just saying in case you'd like to adapt the footage selection. But maybe this is meant as an experimental character study.

I’m guessing there’s something wrong with the main camera during that period, but it’s weird that there wasn’t a note or anything if that’s the case because it makes the whole thing unwatchable for awhile.

2:04:20 in fact Knizia is a doctor (not medical) and studied physics and math ;-) so it‘s Dr. Reiner Knizia - his games usually are calculated through and mathed out - hopefully you understand what I am trying to say (i am German)

Very good rules explanation. The game is fairly easy when you start playing it, but it's not easy to explain because of how abstract it is.

Thanks for the entertaining video! Personal opinion: This feels like a game that's still in playtesting. There's a lot of fiddly bits and edge case rules that seem unnecessary. Some chips give you actions later in your turn, others must be taken right away. Things in your cauldron give you actions, except the chips from the pentagram that just build a cluster. Multiple icons let you take an action multiple times-- unless it's scrolls! I'm sure it's beautifully mathed out and balanced, but if I'm going to be tracking this many subsystems and exceptions, I expect them to support a strong theme-- and these don't. The theme could easily be stronger, and why is everyone's cauldron pink!? I'm glad for those who enjoy it, but doesn't seem like a good fit for me or my group. I still enjoyed watching you guys play it, though!

So for clarification, if you have one of those dual power tokens on your board, and you lay a two space tile down next to it, does it increase both actions by one, or do you have to pick which one it increases that turn?
@RoderickEtheria2 жыл бұрын
Provided the actions are the same as that token, of course.
@boardgamegeek2 жыл бұрын
David, as I understand it that is correct. Placing them doesn't trigger actions but the add to actions triggered by the hex domino tiles. Thanks for the note and for watching.-Lincoln
@RoderickEtheria2 жыл бұрын
@@boardgamegeek that was two different scenarios I presented. Which of the two scenarios are you agreeing with? The either/or or the both, given a tile with both actions is later placed next to it? Asking because none of the examples you provided had both actions on the tile.
@boardgamegeek2 жыл бұрын
@@RoderickEtheria Sorry I didn’t clarify it, I believe that you can apply it to both icons if you are able to place a hex domino that has both matching icons.

Abstract strategy math game...of course it's Reiner Knizia. I'm out. I tried watching you play this on the live stream and was equally baffled by this one. I just don't see where the "fun" is in this game. It's just a lot of abstract mechanics. There's no stand-up moments...no thrilling bonuses or abilities...the theme is paper thin...it hurts my brain just trying to conceptually grasp all the rules...and Dave did a great job teaching...it's just I don't get excited over mathy games. This is one of those "there's always a mathematical best action to take" and I don't have the RAM to figure out what that is...it's just too brain-burny for me. It's like super-deluxe point salad...and I have never enjoyed games like that.
@wolflarson712 жыл бұрын
On the other hand, many of us enjoy puzzly, mathy games and find much more mental satisfaction and enjoyment (i.e., fun) compared to thematic games with lots of luck and a "let's pretend we're a goblin" state of mind.
