Just put my LK 5 pro together last night and printed the whistle. Absolutely awesome and it worked! My wife was shocked and amazed as I was. Looking forward to doing much more. Tony

Congratulations on your 3d printer!! Yes I agree they change the way you think about d.i.y. projects. Really adds a professional touch to homemade items, and makes things possible that weren't before. My favorite thing to print is patterns for cast aluminum objects.

I also printed that NASA ratchet wrench (FYI, NASA has many free print files available on their website - which is where I got the wrench file - along with models of various spacecraft and rovers and such), and mine is essentially identical to yours; although with time and use, the ratchet drive does loosen-up a bit. And yeah, although mine has that little “button” in the handle, I’ve never figured-out how to reverse the drive, lol. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Thank you for answering, I was actually talking about the white one that holds the Q tips and makeup remover pads and toothbrushes. Also didn't say this in the last one, but watching your video was what put me over the edge to buy the Longer LK5 Pro. Thanks again

At work (Boeing) we refer to this as additive manufacturing. I had the privilege of printing many objects on some high end printers. I ended up buying a my son a 3D printer for Christmas and it seems it's constantly running. He started by printed small objects but his latest creation was a working 1:10 scale RC formula one car. I could go on and on... One of favorite subjects!

A school in Japan uses one to make animal shapes for the blind children, so they could be able to see what they look like. I first saw one being used by a friend who made skull designs. I think the person who invented it was a genius!

Enjoy the 3d Printer, since that prints so tall, I will give you a tip: if you print something tall and skinny, use hot glue and cheep chop sticks to glue supports to the side of the print as it gets taller. you can use half chop sticks then full length ones to provide side supports as the print gets tall enough. Usually 3 arranged around it works very well. I have also been using elmer's glue around the base of a wide flat print to keep it flat on the bed to prevent it from curling up. Just used this last night. I printed one and it curled up, so on the second print I let it print about 4 or 5 layers then slowed it down, while I put a bead of elmer's glue around the perimeter of the model and it came out with no curl up.

Can you print maple taps? If so, can you get food safe filament?
@FaenumVena
@FaenumVena 2 жыл бұрын
In general anything printed this way isnt considered food safe, because of the way the layers can trap bacteria and make it hard to clean.

just a heads up. you wont want to use PLA on things that will encounter heat or UV light. PLA stuff doesnt last long in UV and deforms in the heat. in that case use petg. with the type of bed you have you will want to use purple elmers glue sticks to help the material stick to the bed when printing. to ease cleanup time look for a magnetic double sided textured & flat print sheet. theyre like 40 bucks on amazon. just pop the sheet off, bend it and your parts drop off, wash it in the sink with dawn, dry it, apply new glue, and rock on again. if you buy multiple sheets you can always have one ready to go. the glue lasts for maybe 4-5 prints if it doesnt get too dirty

My son has a 3D printer and he's had a ton of issues with it. I want my own. He said PLA melts in water and from the sun. Did you print those chicken feeder covers in PLA? Will they last?
@phrebh
@phrebh 2 жыл бұрын
PLA will melt in high heat and tend to break down in direct sunlight over time. It's technically compostable, but only at highly industrial levels. the feeder covers will probably be okay, especially if they don't get a lot of direct sun, but your mileage may vary.
@SSLFamilyDad
@SSLFamilyDad 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think they will melt in sunlight but you could paint the parts to protect them from sunlight

Thanks for the ideas. I just showed my son your video and he said that you could add a trough on the outside to catch any feed that comes out of the feeder.

No way you didn't level the bed or clean the glass with soap water and isopropyl alcohol before printing ? Calibrate your e steps z offset ?

@calvarycustoms6681

@@SSLFamilyDad On my heated-glass bed printer, I clean the glass with isopropyl and paper towels every few prints. As residue accumulates on the bed, it will start to affect your print adhesion. PLA is a bit more forgiving, but ABS and other filaments require very specific bed temperatures (to minimize warping), so you want to have a clean bed. My other printer has a textured mat rather than glass, and I don’t have to clean that as often.

the main problem I see with this is that it uses plastic. it will not hold or last very long and for the majority of things I would wanna make it is useless. if you for example make plastic hinges what is the use for them? they will break in no time...it's just an expensive toy.

@redherring5532
@redherring5532 2 жыл бұрын
Ya gotta be equipped with a bit more of an imagination than "if it doesn't print strong hinges it's a toy" If you have innovative ideas and know how to model them the right way so it works with this method you can make your own things and sell them. Key here is making your own stuff. I model my own things and sell them and make great money. Toy or not, the money is real
