Kitchen Rejuvenation: Pantry Clean-Up

In this video I show my pantry in its messiest state, how I clean it up, and finally how I keep it organized (in its cleanest state). This is a great idea, we do that too. I also put the flour into a 2-gallon Ziploc bag to store it after it's been frozen, so that no moisture gets in, the flour doesn't get stale, and no NEW bugs get in!

@kndove1 I think the 5 quart one is fine for most normal baking needs. It's the one I had first. I bought the 6 quart to supplement and for more heavy duty baking.

Thanks for doing this pantry clean-up video, it was really helpful. I like the idea of using bins to seperate the types of food, so if you're looking for something specific you just have to look in that bin and not root through the whole shelf or whatever looking for it (which is what i currently do!). :D

I swear Jen I think if someone requested it, you'd show us how to organize the rocks in your yard! LMAO, But I'm not by any means complaining, I have tackled just about ever room so far, and Hubby loves it, now he can reach into his drawer, and get a pair of short socks and be done, in the past he'd have to mate them up, as I don't fold them into thereself, and he wears 3 style's so yeah he loves that after 29 years i'm getting organized! :)

WHERE have you been all my life!!!! GREAT video!!! One thing you might want to think about is lazy susans for the cans shelf (I'm betting with how deep your shelves are you could get away with 4 large). LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the wheeled bins at the bottom!!! I also LOVE the storage on the door and how you utilized them! This was soooooo great!!!!

The ONLY room in the house that I allow a *little* mess is my scraproom BUT at the end of the day I pick it all up. wow..you are super organized. Here's a tip that you probably already know. Because you purchase such a large bag of flour.. when buying flour or pasta and rice ..put in the freezer for 24 hours when you get it home. It generally kills any potential "Indian brown moth's" (aka pantry moths).

@ Punahele Welch-thank you!! Love the pantry organization!! @ TheGLOSSette-We have a walk in one(corner) and so glad we decided to do so!!! So much space. We store rarely used appliances on the top, we have potato and onion bins from Tupperware and small stepping stool on the floor. I have baskets for various snacks for the kids. I have a tiered shelving system for canned goods that I LOVE. My next purchase will be a couple turn tables for the pantry soon. I keep like foods together-cereal, crackers, baking goods, pasta, condiments, etc. But one thing....it turns my stomach that a fly swatter and dog stuff are being stored near food.

@wahini101 Sure! I buy Annie Chun's Rice Express Sprouted Brown Sticky Rice bowls from Whole Foods. Following the instructions on the package, I microwave the rice for 2 minutes. I let it rest on the counter for a minute while I heat up 1/3 cup of 2% milk. I slice one banana into a bowl, put the cooked rice on top, pour the milk over, dash with cinnamon, and then stir together. In 3 minutes, I have a tasty and healthy breakfast! I probably eat this about twice a week.

Those are gingerbread w/milk chocolate glaze I believe. I know those cookies since I get them at my friend’s delicatessen store. You can go to any delicatessen store and ask for gingerbread cookies with chocolate glaze and they will gladly get them for you. :) Those cookies are so yummy and great with warm milk.

Put your bread in the fridge. That way it will keep longer. To keep it even longer than that, put the bread you won't be eating for a while in a freezer bag and put it in the freezer. It doesn't even take that long to defrost when you end up wanting to use it.

I love the use of bins to "corral" similar items and labeling the bin on the outside to see what the category/use of those items are is great. I was wondering what your thoughts are on perhaps keeping a "list of contents" inside the bin, right on top of all the items. I was thinking that if I put this list inside of a sheet protector, I could quickly scan it to know exactly what I've got in the bin and maybe include expiration dates. What do you think?

I have the exact same "soft-sided bins" mentioned from HomeGoods and TJ Maxx. I have different sizes ranging from small to large- about $5.99- $14.99. This size may be $20 or so.

If you store your nuts in the freezer or fridge, they won't go rancid and will last a good year or more.
