The National Guard is the only dual purpose branch of the military and can be activated by the President or the Governor.

NG used to be for the State(s) period. They should be. They are our first and last at the homefront. None should be overseas imo. All that said, good luck on your mission

They rarely deploy the reserves usually only when we're in wartime (sometimes there's exceptions but it's rare from what I've heard)

I served six years in the NY Army National Guard 1963-69, during the Vietnam War, but never activated! The Guard is a 'state' agency with the Gov. as its Commander-in -Chief! They all have civilian jobs & have to handle state disasters. It's time for our state Gov.'s to say "NO" to the President, to forcing the Guard to fill worldwide military shortages!

First of all they won't deploy to the Mexican border because people like the Texas National Guard is already down there who were called in during 2024. Second of all there have been National Guard united deployed for hurricane disasters, including the one that hit 2 months ago. So get your fact straight first.

As a retired US Marine, my views have changed. My question would be; What country in Africa and Why? Typically when America deploys to a continent like Africa, it's all about resources. I do not agree that Americans should be on the continent of Africa unless they have dual citizenship. America needs to handle American problems in America. Let Africans take care of African problems in Africa. Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso are proving that its more than possible. STAY HOME AMERICA!! Ubuntu. Ma'at. Ase.

There are some things our soldiers and families avoid saying. This is one of them. Whoever posted this should have thought about this title before they wrote it. You should probably reword the title "final goodbyes" and think about that for a moment. These families aren't going to want to read that. It sends the wrong message and seems like a jinx.
