anyone who has never tried reverse Nordic curls should try them. killer, killer stretch. I like them at the end of a lower body session.

Behind the scenes secret - unpubbed study has found more growth from leaning back more in the leg extension (which should generalize very well to the reverse nordic)!
@glenoh888 ай бұрын
Problem is that a lot of people can’t do a sissy squat nor a reverse Nordic curl with a reasonable range of motion, almost anyone can do a leaned back leg extension. Both those 2 exercises have movement patterns that most people rarely (if ever) do in life.

Problem for tall guys like me: can’t lean back much on leg extension machine, the seat is already pushed back as much as possible, can’t lean back much.
@GluteMaxer8 ай бұрын
That's crazy. Comparing the leg extensions to the sissy squat and reverse nordic. Both are worse at literally anything else than their ability to lengthen the rectus femoris. Besides that you can lean back on most leg extension machines, both the sissy squat and reverse nordic are less stable, harder to load, requires more mobility and harder to progress on.
@Vinnydoesnotcare8 ай бұрын
Dude ABSOLUTELY. I have no clue what this guy is thinking not taking into account those variables. He thinks the lengthening and stretch is the ONLY thing that makes an exercise good. How much progress are you gonna overload on a sissy and nordic compared to a leg extension? Crazy!
@user-he4ef9br7z8 ай бұрын
If you're a big boy, most leg extensions don't allow you to lean back enough, neither do they have enough weight. Sissy squats are pretty stable and easy to overload if you're competent enough. It's like saying pulldowns are better than pullups because of stability and overloading and blah blah despite the scientific and anecdotal evidence to the contrary.
@nomongosinthaworld7 ай бұрын
His legs are big as shit, what are you saying😭
@Vinnydoesnotcare6 ай бұрын
@@user-he4ef9br7z99 percent of people watching this video are not even close to maxing out weight on a leg extension with good technique and tempo. I still think most people would benefit more from hack squats, smith machine squats, and leg extensions, way more than a Nordic or sissy squat. Way more stability and ability for progression. You still get an unbelievable stretch on the quads with these exercises. Just because you can get more of a stretch with the others does not mean it’s a better exercise for quad development.
@dessertstorm74766 ай бұрын
If they made a lying leg extension with the strength curve hardest in the stretched position would everyone's quads suddenly explode with hypertrophy? Generally these days I zercher squat, lunge and then do pulses of sissy squats in the stretched position, I wanna see if this lengthened partials stuff actually works so I get all the way down and just go to failure attempting to quad myself up. Gets a great quad pump, but not sure its really doing much. Heel elevated close stance high bar is the one thing that really grew my quads like nothing else.

I like what you said about context-specific vs. average exercise quality. I find reverse nordics and sissy squats super uncomfortable. For some reason I get crazy cramps in the arches of my feet when I do the former, and I feel incredibly unstable when I do the latter and just can’t feel the exercise in my quads. Over the years I’ve learned that if I can’t get used to an exercise within a few sessions, I’ll just start skipping it. So I’ll take the slight potential L on the leg extensions, knowing that I’m probably growing my rectus femoris more by training it consistently but suboptimally than I would by often skipping the more optimized exercise.

I got into an argument with TNF about that this week. Somehow he thinks a combination of doing leg extensions and avoiding unilateral work is better for the rec fem and sartorius among other things.
@zakazan85618 ай бұрын
@@ProphetFearI do BSS, hamstring curls, and leg extensions on leg day. Leg extensions did wonders for my patellar tendinopathy and my rectus femoris. A huge bottleneck for L sits for me has been my rectus femoris, and doing leg extensions, especially while leaning back, has really brought them up for me, plus I also had some pain in the area that was reduced by the work. As far as sartorious goes, hip abduction with the knee flexed is probably the best way to hit it as directly as you can.
@ProphetFear8 ай бұрын
@@zakazan8561 The best way to hit the sartorius is to do a lying leg curl with internal rotation of the femur at the bottom. Unfortunately you can't just perpetually do one lift forever, and most people drink the whole seated leg curl koolaid these days too. Straight rear leg split squats is the next best thing. Cossack squats also target it, but are not particularly known for being practical.
