Deliciously tender slow-cooked lamb shanks braised in a hearty mushroom and sour cream sauce. Served with creamy smoked mashed potatoes and smoked garlic finished with a touch of cream and butter. Cooking everything on the braai/smoker turns this dish into something sensational.
Recipe
Braised lamb shanks( Total cooking time 3.5 - 4 hours)
∙ Lamb shanks 1.5kg (2 or more pieces)
∙ 3 Onions
∙ 7 Garlid cloves
∙ ½ cup fresh celery
∙ 1 bell pepper
∙ 3 carrots
∙ 500g White button mushrooms
∙ 2 mutton bouillon cubes
∙ 1.5L water
∙ 1 teaspoon dried thyme
∙ Chilli flakes
∙ 1 cup sour cream
Smoked mashed potatoes Total cooking time 3 hours (1.5 hours smoked + 1.5 hours foil.)
∙ Potatoes
∙ 3 heads of garlic
∙ canola oil
∙ butter
∙ 1 cup cream
