This is a problem with car insurance. I once worked at the call center for one of the big ones. Fairly regularly I would get people, with these older cars. That they have owned for years, always with the most basic insurance possible, lowest price. All of a sudden want full coverage Most people do wait 2-3 months before they use it, so it doesn't look too fishy. But lots of people will literally make claims within the first 1-4 days of increasing their insurance policy.

Then a day or so later they pour gasoline all over the car and light it on fire, and drive out of there in a friend’s car and pretend they’ve been home the whole time. Hopefully the police conclude that someone stole the car and burned it. Then the insurance company gives the owners money for the value of the car. It happens when people can’t make their payments. It’s fraud (not to mention a wildfire risk), but I think it’s rarely prosecuted.
