This time the cleaners will tackle Tarbert House, a Georgian manor on the banks of the River Shannon in the West of Ireland.
Home to the Leslie family for 300 years, the current custodian is 83 year old widow, Ursula Leslie.
While the main rooms on the ground floor retain their original splendour, these days the upper two floors, where once Charlotte Bronte, Lord Kitchener and Winston Churchill all stayed, are little more than a dumping ground.

What a lovely lady, she may have money but she doesn't treat others less fortunate than her in a condescending way, like so many other owners on these episodes. Glen and Karen seemed genuinely sad to leave at the end of it. What a great episode.

@@1980sneonelectrik fair comment, but don't forget that even if she isn't loaded with cash she still has a tidy sum in real estate, and other assets...that property and its contents has to be worth a few million at least. Plus, social hierarchy - being upper class, it isn't unusual for people with titles to look down on others in a snobbish way, purely because they're a lord/lady.

@@mikecochrane1437 That is absolutely true. I have friends who live in Ireland in a large house they inherited, and it is a labour of love. In the 20 years I have been going there they have got about half-way through bringing it back to its splendour. Unbelievable how much Glen and Karen did struggle and how much they could change the house! And its a shame that the daughter just appeared at the end when all the work was done. Why she was'nt helping with cleaning out her own childhood house? It seemed to me as if they somehow abused the two helpers.
@RevantuZ
@RevantuZ 2 жыл бұрын
I think it's possibly because the point of the show is the two cleaners doing it to help them with their own obsession with cleanliness. It would defeat the purpose if they had too much help. That being said, I think it's sad that the daughter didn't help more to stop the house from getting into that state in the first place. But we don't know a thing about these peoples' private lives, I'm sure they have their reasons.

During a so called "declutter" after my beloved grandma's death, we got rid of many things without deep thinking and I regretted it. Fortunately, I kept the set of 96pc crystal drinking glasses! But last month I wanted to host a big dinner for my birthday with many guests and didn't have enough plates. Once again I remembered grandma's plates that ended up in the bin. Anything new I looked up was either too expensive or too modern. Luckily, I found a set of beautifully decorated vintage plates that matches the rest. And in good price as well. Yet, I could have saved this if I still had those we throwed away back then.

I understand the need for wanting order and control because I'm the same way, but you can't spend all your time cleaning because it leaves you little time for other things which you'll regret not doing later in life. Nobody on their deathbed ever said "I wish I spent more time cleaning!"

I am so pleased for Lady Lindsay. These young people not only helped to clean the house but in a large way they allowed the owner to restore her house in a dignified manner. I wish her the best of luck for the future and hope she is able to keep her head above water with the upkeep and finances of the manor. I do hope though in the first days of their mission that they did not throw out anything as precious as those letters.

There are so many episodes that I can't find like Vinny (Vincent Ghee) going to the house that he cleaned, can't find that anywhere, or the episode where Tuesday and her mother (the OCD mother and daughter) go to clean someone's home can't find that either but they are always advertised in the introduction of the show. Granted I am only one person requesting these episodes so not expecting to be catered to but it would be great to get some new episodes uploaded! have a great cleaning day everyone 😁

Owners live in such sumptous manor with many rooms and staff to clean. They can afford it. One partner dies, the kids move out and the Ursula is left there unable to keep it up to date. I also blame her children who as grown ups do not support their mother (so it seems) to obtain enough funds to pay for regular cleaners. Instead they let the mother becacome a restless hoarder. But, trust me, whenever Ursula passes away, the kids will come running for the inheritance. I hate such attitude. Karen and Glen did a marvellous job and had a lot of patience.

I managed getting over dumping old things, by organizing them. Some can't apreciate the real value of a vintage thing, only when that is gone, and no chance meeting with it again.

That's what I often think when looking at these shows. It's a shame because probably no one would help folks like Ursula, except for a show like this, but unfortunately with shows like this come tight deadlines and so many salvageable things end up in a skip where they could otherwise be sold, donated, recycled, repurposed -- and all the rest.

Charity shops are stuffed full. I volunteer in a bookshop and there’s a full basement, full sales floor, full workroom, full shelves of books listed to Amazon, and full boxes of books headed to third-party resellers. All that before you reach the full stacks of books that will be recycled as TP 😅

4:53, nice room ngl. Also yknow, opening a window and throwing the trash out of the house rather than carrying it down the stairs would have saved LOADS of time. Then all you've gotta do is put it in the skip right next to where you threw it out the window. Use this method to clear my second bedroom.

Why do the cleaners in these programmes have to be so negative and judgmental of other people's territory. They're so often so rude and arrogant about what they find, when they're guests in somebody else's space. Edit: really glad to see it change at the end. Karen: "I can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually feel happy." Love it!! 💜

If Ursula is going to be adamant about throwing stuff away, then the cleaners are wasting their time even being there. It's a huge house for one person, and needs constant upkeep to keep it in good condition.

@@arikalamari19 history and art - especially from those people can't keep up or store properly - should belong to a museum where it would be properly taken care of. It's actually what I did with some of the antiques I inherited- now they are part of an exhibition, tagged as "donated by me". Rule of thumb: Is it old? Check out your requirements for vintage and antiques. Do you use it? e.g. porcelain - do you actually drink from the tea cups? Can you keep it up in a good state? Can you store it properly? If no - sell to sb collecting antiques or bring to a local museum.
