Women drive trains when you don't need to fuel it with coal, drive trucks when one can call for a service, they become commercial pilots after we had a century of advancing planes and flight safety rules. So it's not just women come - more labor - wages go down. It's also that women come when the field has become less demanding. Thus it's about to drop wages anyway.

Electives at least are not a fluff class intrinsically. Electives serve to provide a scope into other fields and areas of study you may not have considered before. I was a history major until I took forensic archaeology and cultural resource management. Switched to anthropology and loved almost every class I took. I didn’t go to a university where grievance studies were mandatory though. So there’s that.

@@HisMagnificence You're kind of right. A University is supposed to make you a "well rounded" member of society by graduation; ie. general studies. I also find this distasteful, as not everyone (myself included) cares about this. With the advent of the internet much of the gen-ed stuff can and is learned by ones self. While there are Technical colleges that usually don't require you to take such electives, they are sometimes shallower in depth regarding the actual field of pursuit you are enrolled in than a University. I would personally prefer the "electives" to actually be elective; which is not the case if I *have* to pick something.

In Australia the jobs that never got shut down: trades Plumbers, electricians, builders, etc all were free to work (for the most part) during lockdown. So men transitioning to trades over uni only makes sense. Women not doing the same is just another sign of privilege.

Indeed. The idea that we need to close an imaginary "gap" between the sexes in general is just stupid. Men and women, taken as groups, are different, make different decisions, value different things. Equal pay for equal work sure, but stop pretending that men and women should all be doing the same jobs, putting in the same hours etc. Nobody complains there aren't enough female construction workers, oil riggers, miners, machinists, sewage workers, farmers, truckers, and all the other, often high risk, physical jobs that are overwhelmingly done by men to keep society running.

When I went to college for engineering there were 300 students in my engineering 101 lecture hall. Only 3 of them were women. My student advisor was a woman and when she gave me my schedule for the next semester she gave me the wrong lecture hall for Engineering 102. When I arrived on the first day of class I was the only man in a lecture hall of 299 women. I turned to the woman next to me and said, "this isn't engineering 102 is it?" She laughed at me and said, "no this is child development 102." When I finally got to the correct lecture hall for engineering 102 only 1 of the 3 women were left. The 1 remaining woman was successful though. She got her PhD and went to work for NASA.

I watched a Women's calf roping competition on YT last night and it was laughable. Now each gal had her rope ready, horse geared up to go, calf in the chute which gets released. Each gal spurs her horse after the calf and ropes the calf. THEN LETS GO OF THE ROPE! When a man competes in calf roping and he ropes his calf, he wraps his rope around the saddle horn. He skids his horse to a halt as he dismounts, tucks the rope under his right, arm runs down the length if the rope to the calf (whose trying to free itself from the rope), flips the calf onto its back (I forgot about the piggin string in his mouth) grabs 3 flailing legs (one at a time) and ties them up. Then he throws his arms up over his head to stop the clock. A good cowboy can do this in 12 or 15 seconds. The great ones in about 8 or 10 seconds. The gals however just have to get the rope completely around the calf's neck. Winning time for a part of the $123,000 purse was 2:59 seconds. She never left the horse's back. I thought what a joke. If wahman are no different from men, just as fast and just as strong why don't they properly rope, flip and tie down the calf. BECAUSE THEY CAN'T FLIP OVER A BABY COW AS IT'S TOO HEAVY FOR THEM TO. So much for wahman being strong.

I don't even need my degree doing my job, wish I knew that sooner. and it's true, when I told my counselor I didn't want to go to college when I was 18 they insisted. I went, got out and should've stuck with my guts. That's one thing I'll tell young kids now, if you really want to go to college make sure its for a degree that you need for your career i.e. doctor, etc.

It is hilarious. First the complain was more men were going to college than women. Now more women are going to college than men and the complaints are women have more student debt, women chose unproductive degrees and women are unhappy with reduced prospects for partners as they have now taken themselves out of the market for any men that don't have degrees because most are unwilling to date down in education even if their partner makes more than them despite lacking a degree or even if they end up as a stay at home mom.

Basic economic principles apply to all facets of the economy, including employment. When supply exceeds demand, prices drop, so when more people apply to a field than are needed in that field, wages drop. Conversely, in fields with demand exceeding the available supply of workers (like the trades), wage skyrocket. It's so simple, idk why people (women especially) fail to grasp it. Clearly men to some extent grasp it, because they're the ones flocking to these jobs.

"...why is that?" there is some politics involved, but not what you think. in blue areas they require a college diploma, and that doesn't ensure good workers so they also require work experience. in red areas they use tests and assessment periods to ensure who they hire have the skills. in red areas workers tend to get work experience, and then move to blue areas for the higher pay if they have a college degree. guys who are raised as guys are focused on their jobs, which happens in red areas. this means that in red areas guys are raised in a way to create good workers, and that allows them to enter the skilled side of the work force and earn a proper living. those that have blue politics end up in blue areas. in some situations there is a genetic component (blue collar physical jobs), but otherwise it is a culture issue (blue don't create good workers). blue wants to limit their liability, red wants results.
