My mother was an Army nurse in the South Pacific, she met my army father there. Neither of them would speak a word of their experience. I have to watch and read other people’s stories to try to understand their view.

MacArthur was a really crummy general, and a very poor leader. 5:26 "MacArthur had grounded all our planes" Yes, typical MacArthur stupidity. Had MacArthur wanted to prevent the Philippines being taken over he would've sent those planes out to bomb the Japanese Air bases on Formosa the moment he was informed of The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. But MacArthur was too considerate of not wanting to "provoke" the Japanese (who had just murdered the daylights out of Peal Harbor).

I noticed one discrepancy from the real history: the survivors of the Bataan Death March were NOT marched to ‘San Miguel’ which the film puts it. They were marched from the battlefield in the province of Bataan to the town of San Fernando, province of Pampanga in the Island of Luzon (104 kms, 65 mi) From there they loaded them on railroad box cars to Camp O’Donnell in the town of Capas, province of Tarlac (43 kms away).

You are absolutely correct I have driven that route from Batann to Fernando the road is very hilly in the beginning but flattens out close too San Fernando. I can not imagine walking this route. And to this day there is very little there other than farm land.

This 1986 TV-Movie is a work of fiction. There were no women nurses in the Bataan Death March. Some Navy women nurses were incarcerated in civilian inmates camp at Santo Tomás University campus in Manila. Then later they were transferred to the civilian inmates camp in Los Baños, Laguna in the campus of the College of Agriculture of the University of the Philippines. They were rescued on February 23, 1945 by the U.S. Army’s 11th Airborne Division with the help of the local Filipino guerrillas (Hunters ROTC Guerilla Group).
