This video demonstrates alternative applications to ITF Taekwondo Pattern Won Hyo from those shown in Gen. Choi Hong Hi's Encyclopedia of Taekwondo. There are alternative uses for every technique shown. If you want to see the traditional designated applications please check out my Won Hyo Tul Applied video on this channel.

Wonderful examples! Finally I understand what I'm doing with form. Now each move can be used on my homemade bob with arms, legs & he bobs/ weaves attacks 14 inches . I'm so confident these forms work, because I've now use them to counter bob. He recoils 10 to 18 inches faster than a boxer! This bob can hurt you. Thanks a Million.

Very good. I think that more instructors need to cover the application of the movements to give a much better understanding of what they are being taught. Forms are DEFINITELY NOT useless.

Thank you for demonstrating the applications. It shows there is a lot to learn from careful study of the forms beyond just mastering the individual movements. I am starting to review and practice each tul's applications with my wife who is also my training partner. Taekwon Sir!

I hope you make more alternate application vids. I think that the applications shown in the Encyclopedia are more for stressing the direction and intensity of movement rather than practicality.

Excellent applications. At a basic level the traditional Kick/punch/ block applications are enough since they stress an easy to learn simple to apply approach, one has to remember TaeKwon-Do military origins. But part of the beauty of Hyongs is that, as you progress and mature in technique and understanding, you find more advanced applications, still, in true TaeKwon-Do military nature, pragmatic and straight forward.I will love to see the whole set of kyup Hyongs in your proposed alternative applications.

Sooner or later, taekwondoins should make a copy of modern Japanese bunkais.

+Alberto Rodríguez Barrera There are some similar things that people do in demo's. fight scenes and stuff. but I think with the way Taekwondo patterns are structured this is the closest they ill get in their present form and still look cool.

Since you referenced the encyclopedia and that you are wearing an ITF dobuk, I'm simply suggesting that you should keep the same ranks and dobuks for your students. Major General Choi standardized both the dobuks and belts and ranks to avoid the numerous variations from the different styles that were unified to create TKD. Same for the velcro or zipper that was added in order to keep the dobuks from opening. The brown belts were replaced to red belts. I'm not entirely aware the reasons of the change of color, but I assume it could be: -Brown is the color for Karate and various other martial arts, red makes it distinct for TKD. -For the progression of the meaning of colors in TKD. -Red was less available back then since it was reserved for the highest ranks in some martial arts. I'll ask my instructor the next time I meet him.

+foreshadow20 I still use all of the prescribed colors. But instead of having a high version of each color I have a whole new color. It is a business and retention modification. Students feel like they are receiving more material gain when they get a whole new belt as opposed to just a stripe on their old belt. It also allows me to use stripes in class to provide incentive to master specific technique requirements like patterns one steps... The general was very smart and created a great martial art. But it is up to its practitioners to evolve and modify it to suit new and changing times. Like business models and new applications for the techniques like the ones shown in this video. If the it'd really respected the generals wishes there would not be three of them. Only the one under the person that the general appointed. I would say if he were here today he would have a lot more on his mind than someone using a brown belt instead of a high blur belt.
