'Homemade Wooden Door Latches' Project woodworking with scrapwood. A 'Step by Step Guide' to making these super wooden door sliding latches also called 'Shoot Bolts' in the UK. I have made loads of these latches and for a multitude of different pruposes from animal farm shelter doors to cupboard doors in the kitchen. They really give you the feel of creativity in the home with their natural feel, tactile yet strong.

A really great video. I needed a quick and easy latch for my deer box blind and this was perfect. The only change I’m going to make is to replace the slide block with a dowel, drill and slot the door to allow for outside access. Thanks again!

Thanks, good idea to use a dowel as you could just use a flat bit or a forsner. Stay safe x

Thank you for calling the left over bits used to make the bolts, “Off cuts”. I hate them being called scrap, if they were scrap, they would have been scrapped, would they not! 🧐

Apparently someone else whose idea of "dust collection" is to open the shop door and use the leaf blower to blow everything outside. My garage is my workshop, so that gives me a 17 ft wide door for blowing everything outside, thus only a couple of feet on each side of it for sawdust to try to hide. :)

Yep, you can't extract everything unless your rich. I was using a draw knife today but couldn't find any extraction port!! 😁
