If you hadn't already put the brass plaque in it, you could have turned it into a lampshade. That would have been cool.

Project for the leftover leaves: How about a tray! The bottom of the tray could be a flat resin 'board' and then add some wood on the sides for the handles. Not much turning but you could show us your carving skills whilst making the handles.

Do a spring one with small twig pieces with buds. And some partially unwrapped leaves. Summer with all the leaves their normal color. Don't forget those annoying maple helicopter seeds too. Winter can be all dead twigs but some with tight buds. Use some of the white fake snow also.

That's a beauty, Nick! And I'm *SO* glad you have a Ginkgo (often misspelt Gingko) tree (that's the 'funny leaf' you referred to). Ginkgos are my favourite trees - they're a unique living fossil. Not unlike myself.
@marshawargo7238

I came to say that. That tree has 2 different shapes of leaves. & I think it's a Sycamore that has 3 different shapes of leaves (1 of them looks like a mitten) I'm also fond of Tulip Trees, I was 55 when I found out it even existed!

Have you ever looked at the "tiny new leaves" that pop out in Springtime❓All perfectly formed ( like new-borns )? I make bookmarks with tiny maple leaves and oak leaves, and I noticed you have Japanese Maple trees. They are wonderful when their leaves first appear.❗I'm sure you have an abundance of shrubs and roses and even moss. I can't remember this minute, what the name is.....but there is a powder to preserve delicate flowers, (not as heavy as what you used). Glycerin also preserves leaves. I'd love to see more leaf projects. How about a "Wine" tray made with grape leaves and curly-cues. You are an artist❗.......I am just a thinker. Go forth and gather. 😑😉🖖🧝‍♀️

Maybe next time you can do the leaves in UV resin for some layers and then pour regular resin over those layers. I wonder if that would work and keep the leaves from floating.
@jsharik2466
@jsharik2466 Жыл бұрын
My thoughts exactly! Leaves on bottom, add a bit of resin, let it dry. Add a thin layer of resin and use it as a glue to hold the second bowl and patiently layer it up to the rim. But his result is beautiful!
@toddhudson4550
@toddhudson4550 Жыл бұрын
@@jsharik2466 I had thought of something similar. Would it work to start with the smaller bowl inverted, dip the leaves in resin, and layer them on, similar as paper mache? Then, once the leaves are built up to thickness desired, put this into the larger bowl and fill.

Love this!!! I'm super impressed with how well those leaves held their color for over a year 😮. That really speaks well for those silica beads. I stayed up late to watch this when I got the notification and I'm so happy I did because this is beautiful! I also love how the emblem looks like it's kinda floating in the bottom. Great project Nick! P.S. I mailed your present last week! Stayed until the end. Loved how it turned out...no pun intended haha. Would make a awesome lamp idea. Next batch of leaves, crumble some up in resin and maybe make a night light or something with a light. I think it would look funky and maybe make the colors pop through with the light shining behind it. I'd love to have one of those. Could be used for Thanksgiving or any fall occasion.

Nice to discover that Nick is a fellow gardener. I live in South East Texas. I found a species of Ginkgo (the fan shaped yellow leaves) that is supposed to adapt to Zone 9. It was a tiny 1 year sapling when I got it last year. In a pot it has tripled in size this year with the leaves almost 2" wide. I will keep it in the pot (keep upsizing the pot each fall) for at least 3, maybe 4 years before attempting to put it in the ground. I hope it takes and survives because they are absolutely amazing trees. If it does survive, I think I will make something with the leaves -- in resin -- since they seem to retain a lot of the yellow color. Since I do not lathe, it will most probably be some coasters and maybe a tray or perhaps a small table top. I learned, watching Nick's video that I need to use silica to dry the leaves before hand. Had not thought of that. Thanks Nick!
