Beautiful bowl. So much lighter than our American Black Walnut. Looks like you got a really nice spalt line there in the bottom. Very well done with a treasure as the result.

Great job thanks for posting. I really enjoy your videos as much for the commentary and tuition as for the wonderful end result. Just one thing - when you started it looked quite out of balance. I would have used tailstock support for a while until it had been turned down to be more true. Any views?

Hi Joe, thank you very much for the nice comment and for watching I really appreciate the time you spend on it.. about the use of the tailstock, I normally use it if I am in doubt about the tenon holding, or if the piece is really out of balance, I can see it looks way more out of balance that it felt on the bench .. but you are right it is a good idea to uset it when posible for the ekstra safety. One thing I also do, is try to not spend to much time in the line of fire, and always stand to one side if the cut permits it .. again thanks for watching .. have an amazing day and stay safe 😀

I’ve been thinking a negative rake scraper should be my next tool purchase. Thank you for the heads up about how often to refresh the edge. Do you think a diamond hone would turn up enough of a burr that I could not go to the grinding machine so often?
@billflynn7407
@billflynn7407 3 жыл бұрын
My experience with scrapers is that a hone will turn a very small burr that isn’t as aggressive as a grinder. I roll a new burr on my regular scrapers using a quarter inch rod of carbide.
@WOODTURNINGBYBRANDSTRUP
@WOODTURNINGBYBRANDSTRUP 3 жыл бұрын
I did use a diamond hone at the beginning, but after i changed from the Tormek system to the Pro Edge system I just go to the grinder, it take under 30 sek. and i feel it give me a better burr.. If you have a normal scraper you dont use you can just make that to a negative Rage scraper by putting on a angle on the flat part .. loade of KZbin videos showing how to .. Thank you very much for watching .. stay safe and have a great day 😀😀

Very nice! What did you use to fill the cracks?
@WOODTURNINGBYBRANDSTRUP
@WOODTURNINGBYBRANDSTRUP 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Francis, Thank you for watching .. The cracks was filled with a Loctite 5 min epoxy .. without color in it, it wont stain the wood as much as CA can do sometimes even with pretreating the wood with sealer.. Link to epoxy: www.amazon.com/Loctite-Instant-0-47-Fluid-Syringe-1365868/dp/B0044F9KFI/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=5+minute+epoxy+clear&qid=1611304765&sr=8-5 Have a great day and stay safe 😀

Although your bowl didn’t warp very much it would have been better to true up the tennon first.why do you sharpen both sides of your negative rake scraper.
@WOODTURNINGBYBRANDSTRUP
@WOODTURNINGBYBRANDSTRUP 3 жыл бұрын
Hi William, it warped so little that it in my opinion would have been a waste of time, but normally I do correct it, about the sharpening, I find I get the best result this way, normal scrapers I only sharpen on one side, but negative I do both , if it is right or wrong I dont know ?? why would I not grind it on both sides? Thank you for watching .. Have a great day and stay safe 😀😀

@@WOODTURNINGBYBRANDSTRUP because you can only raise a burr on one side.
