Great addition to your shop Jonathan. Love your sense of humor..."the wiring is only a problem if you touch them"..."love the smell when welding galvanized steel" 😂🤣! Some people just like to tell others what to do...and how to do it. Just ignore them. Love your videos and content. Keep up the the great work!

Woodward Fab makes some pretty nice equipment that is reasonably priced for its quality. I have a 4' finger brake that I really like. You might see if that motor will reverse direction by reversing the leads on the starting winding. If so, a double pole, double throw switch could be added so the motor would go either direction.

Nice setup Jonathan.. one of the first things I did to mine was to ditch that hand crank and make a large wheel to mount on the shaft for manual operation.. my other idea, was to buy a cheap 1/2" drive ratchet and use that in place of the crank.

Treadmill DC motor! Use a Variac and bridge rectifier to give variable speed, and easily reversed. I’m using that setup with a Baldor 1hp treadmill duty motor on my wood lathe. Can still use the floor pedal to control on and off.

I found mine on Craigslist. It has a stand and a 3' round wheel for a handle. Works very well, made a trunk floor from 18g steel, no problem. T hand on mandrel depth is a must The large wheel gets kinda hard to deal with when your moving a big sheet in the working end. I need three hands....or like you, a foot. I think I may have to get busy on the electrics.

You could also use a Variac to seed up or slow down the motor.
@KevinJohnson-fx6wq5 жыл бұрын
I was thinking of using a rheostat o govern the speed through the pedal. Also though of having 2 arms which, in storage, are hanging down by the center post but then through a double hinge, swing out to help support the bigger pieces you are working on. A couple wheels mounted so they are off the ground when using, and you just tilt it to move it around. Then I was thinking, some people might have a few 'machines', similar to this they have stored when not using and how some of these smaller 'machines' aren't as stable as we might like. What if you could find a designated area where you could install 4 anchor positions in the floor. Never seen what I'm thinking about but would basically be a threaded collar at least 4" deep, with some shape like a triangle welded to the center to keep from spinning and a counter sink, like a socket on the end so the anchor would sit at floor level but leave a space for the anchor bolt, wide enough to fit a socket as a bolt would be installed to keep out dirt. Yeah, in a perfect world, but I really believe it would work out well with the right person. One would have to adapt each piece of equipment including wheels, and a small box or something on each piece to hold the 4 bolts when you remove them from the floor. Yeah, I know but I just lost a bolt a couple of weeks ago while working on a snow blower. But ended up needing a bolt and a sprocket key. Luckily, My friend helping me owned the hardware store right next door. Thanks for sharing. Always nice to see how fabricate different things.

Hi Jonathan, love that idea on your bead roller! I was thinking that a smaller sprocket would make it quicker and a larger would take it longer to make a revolution. I love your videos!
@gsallen95885 жыл бұрын
That rigidly-mounted handle might contribute to run on. Might be better loose mounted with a spring-loaded locking pin for when needed. But that requires a hardened-shaft drill through, which probably isn't much fun. Or perhaps a 10" diameter hand wheel mounted on shaft end would provide a non-varying load.
@gosportjamie5 жыл бұрын
I suspect your issue with the stopping of the rollers depends on whether the handle is on the way up or the way down. When it was on the way up the rollers stopped almost instantly due to the weight of the handle acting as a brake, when it was on the way down it took longer to stop as the weight of the handle is pulling it on a little. That's a big, heavy, cast handle to make turning it by hand easier but that means it is heavy, a lighter handle made from plate could help reduce that issue, or maybe welding a nut on the end of the shaft and keeping a suitably-sized socket and bar with the machine should reduce it significantly...

I think it looks good however I would not do the t handle bolts it may interfere with your work piece I would do more of a Chuck key style wrench to go on top of the bolts and you could take him put you up magnet on the motor side of it that just sticks to when you're not using it.
