Got told by my flight chief that I needed to submit a package for BTZ. I told him I didn't want to waste my time doing that because back office already had picked out who they wanted to give the stripe to. I also said that I didn't want to waste my time because I would make E4 regardless a few months down the road anyway. A few other A1C's on flight overheard what I told the flight chief and said the same thing. Didn't want to put together a package for something they knew that they weren't going to get. Flight chief took what we said to back office and they told him to go back and make us participate because the only person who had applied for BTZ was an A1C from back office. He made us all submit packets and the A1C from back office got the stripe.

It was so they could bullshit with something along the lines of "out of seven airman, they got BTZ". It doesn't have the same weight to it if they were the only airman that went up for BTZ and got it.

@@DKC196 I agree. They needed the rest of us to apply in order to make it appear as if it was a fair selection process. Even though back office already had decided who they were going to give the stripe to beforehand. I remember I was posted on the flight line and the flight chief kept hitting me up on the radio and asking me to landline. So when I finally called his office he started asking me what I had volunteered for recently. I asked him what this was in regard to, and he said it was for my BTZ package. I told him again that I didn't want to do it and if he was going to make me submit one then he should just put down whatever I had listed on my last EPR, because I really didn't care by that point.

@@markbrennan1393should have told him you donated a large percentage of your money to charity. When he asked which one, say the local woman’s club. The ones who dance around naked lol. We had leadership (in the Army) that told us they were not going to promote anyone to E4 unless they hit their 2 year mark which is an automatic promotion. Then the ones who were already E4 and were in the zones for the promotion board had to go to IG because they were not allowed to go without any counseling’s with follow up explaining why they were not recommended for the board. This was back in 05/06 on deployment.

I know a guy that literally saved someone's life and he only got a 3 on his EPR. The promotion system is so incredibly terrible and infuriates me to no end. It's one of the main reasons I'm getting out as soon as possible.

It also works in reverse. I got in a fight one weekend, gave the guy a bloody nose, he was a civilian. By the time I was standing in from of the Senior Chief (e8) I had "caused a riot, caused swat to be called out, attacked a party of 5, including someone's girlfriend, caused over 2000 dollars worth of damage to the bar and set the US flag on fire." In reality dude talked shit about the military, I ignored him, he spun me around, hit me, I hit him ONCE, the bar owner kicked us out, cops showed up after we left, a group of people were laughing the guy with the bloody nose. Thankfully there were cameras in that bar and I was OK.
