Feaverishly machine quilting a very special graduation quilt as watching. Using my domestic machine so taking a bit of time. It’s for a special grandson and we all know he’ll love it. Planning on sending a picture in for one of the Friday shows.

After taking the time to make 4 design boards, I bought a Value Pack of 5 various sizes of artists canvas on sale at either Michael's or Joann's (can't remember which store). I use them plain right after I unwrap the pack, and it works just fine for me. The canvas surface is rough enough to hold my fabric! Quick and easy! Nothing fancy but works just fine for me....

I like the idea of stitching the binding. I might try one with a decorative stitch. I do think using 3” strips was a great idea! I wish I had thought of that before I made mine. The muslin does add a nice clean finish that doesn’t conflict with your blocks!

Like it, very neat and adding the topstitch would really make it "pop" , but still be simple.

Nice video. Never thought of wool for project board. And the topstitching and washing tape to secure back is a great option. Very inspirational video.

Your boards turned out great! I make my own boards, too. I use Heat & Bond Ultra strips ironed onto my 2.5" binding strips and then carefully iron them in place - I stand the boards vertically on one end and iron on the very edge (cut edge) of the board first to make sure they're secure, then the front and lastly the back. As long as you don't hold the iron on the board too long, it doesnt warp/melt the foam. I like to use leftover binding strips. And it's much easier to cut the boards first and then attach the batting and trim. That Temu cutter looks scary.

One can also use flannel to cover the design boards. Works well.

I don’t know what possessed me to buy that expensive board. Joann’s was out of their 20x30 pieces for $3.19, so I crossed the street to Michaels

You can stitch through that board easily with your machine to sew the binding on. Doesn't hurt the machine at all.

Wait and buy the wool at Joann's until you have a 40% or 50% off regular price coupon. Nice job Sherri!

I like the topstitch idea on the binding! I have some leftover wool batting, so I think I'll try it next time I make one.

Interesting approach to cleanable design boards. You are definitely making Cadillac design boards! I like the idea of using a good sturdy base. I am more utilitarian about it. I use flannel or batting scraps and non-permanent adhesive like tape on cheap foam core board. Flannel can be removed and washed, and I always have plenty of batting scraps so I can change it out when it gets to the point where it doesn’t come clean with a lint roller. I made 5 14” boards so I can have lots of blocks/projects laid out and they store neatly in a stack, even with blocks laid out. I may need to make some bigger ones for the larger blocks I have been making lately.

I like this! Was it difficult to put the wool batting, (was it wool batting or wool fabric?) on the board after the spray adhesive? I agree to keep it plain, I want to audition the block with no interference! 😂. I have been waiting months now for the larger boards to come back in stock, I have some foam core and will be doing this. Thank you Sherri 😊

Wool batting. It’s a bit difficult to find 100% wool fabric. I would have preferred it. The wool batting laid onto the glue sprayed board was super simple.
