Friesian Horses

Жыл бұрын

The farrier needs help. To keep the young horses calm, we use a twitch. This way the horses have much less stress. A substance is released in the brain.
Before I go to Stal G, I do the stable at Stal H.
When the farrier is ready, it's siesta for all horses. Then Sjors will come to clean the stables.

Yvonne that's a great Farrier. So talented and skilled.Tell him he should use a stool his back will thank him as he grows older. Love how all the ladies are so comfortable with you in their new stalls and your dream. Spidey will never change that's what I like about him he's like the Courts Jest he always draws a laugh Our of me. So glad to see Rising Star I think he's such a beautiful horse. Current horse owners correct me if I'm wrong (I've not owned a horse for a few years), but I've never seen a farrier use a stool. I would think it would hamper their movement and be dangerous since a horse could kick at any time or even just shift their weight and a groom, farrier or vet must be able to react quickly and being on a stool would certainly slow reaction time.

@@mbmochinski current horse owner and no, they don't use a stool. They may use a hoof stand that helps hold a hoof in place easier then your legs but...yeah a stool is how farrier end up seriously hurt. Even the best horses used to years of farrier work will startle, usually when you don't want them to.

Seriously when Risey is fully grown, they need to stand next to each other bcs I remember when all of us were looking at Sjors and calling Risey his mini-me. They should just spend some more time on teaching their youngsters these basics, it saves a lot of time and pain later on. They should try the TRT Method, it provides tips and learning materials for lots of horse (human) "problems"

I learned about the twitch from Dr. Jan Pol's tv show here in the States, so many differing opinions about them but if they calm the Horse or any animal for that matter, what a brilliant idea. This video answered a question that I've been carrying around ever since I watched the very first Farrier video more than two years ago. I have seen how young horses find so many things, including people, scary. Some are even afraid of brushing and spray bottles! I couldn't figure out how you got a young horse to stand still for the farrier. I just knew there had to be a trick to it somehow! I was VERY happy to see how well the Grannies are adjusting to their new home. I know that they will really be happy when they are finally able to get to all of Yvonne's grassy fields! I believe that Uniek, Reintje and Saly hit the jackpot when they moved into Stal H. 😊 Thanks for another fun, soothing, educational video, Yvonne! 👁❤Friesian 🐎🐎🐎!

Be mindful, a twitch should only be used on the upper lip (not ear) and for roughly 5 minutes at most. A more long-term way is to give the horse hay, like in a hay net, to get them calm and comfortable. And reward with treats in the beginning, if possible. Give them the treat away from your body, horse's head mostly forward, if you're afraid of them getting nippy for treats. That teaches them where to expect food, and they usually won't try to "search" you.

Its might be interesting, but the truth is that the twitch is a very controversial method. You are essentially twisting the rope so tight that it restricts blood circulation and creates so much pain that the body start making its on pain relief, so the horse starts to behave slightly sedated, cause it is. But not only is the method very painful, it can cause permanent nerve damage. I feel a twitch should only be used in dangerous situations and when there are no other alternatives.

Lovely to see Yvonne and the horses and ponies. With newer generations having no interest in labour intensive jobs, especially if the job needs a lot of learning, we should all hope that some people do still want to do these jobs. They are essential.

I joined the Herd in about 2021 or 2. My 1st & 2nd videos where Queen Unique & Rising Star meeting. And Star passing (may the Little Angel Boy rest in peace). I thought I should get that out of the way before getting to business. Ok, so the Twitch is 'Horse Nip', Cat Nip' but for horses.😮😂. on to a question about Risey. There's not been much on Risey for a while now, I was wondering if there'd be more some time.🐎🐎❤❤

From 3 very dirty ladies at Stal H to getting feet trimmed and fresh shoe’s with snoozing youngsters it’s all part of ensuring that these beautiful special horses have the most healthy happy lives possible which is always wonderful to see. For me there’s just something so calming about the sound of horse shoes on the ground, the tools the farrier uses and the relaxed whoosh of a horse blowing(a sign of a content chill equine)that I absolutely love. To have a bit of all of this in one video is perfect and Lianne love bug just gives the best ending so thank you Yvonne.🐎❤️‍🔥🤗🤗

I’m SO excited for you! I know how it feels to have your horses at your own property. I was spoiled as a kid in the UK, we had land & my dad built us beautiful stables. Like the Netherlands they needed stabling in the winter. Now I’m in Australia and we have to keep our horses at a property but no stables. So my daughters 2 horses are outside all year around. I love watching the Friesian’s they have always been my favourite breed. But they are SO expensive here. The closest I ever came was my black Percheron x quarter horse called Midnight! Unfortunately he waa killed in a paddock accident at the end of last year!😢 it was such a shock, I grieved for days, deep heave sobs, asking why it had to be my midnight! 😢he was my soul mate, the type of relationship & trust you get once in a lifetime with a horse, never had it before with horses and I know I never will again. Fortunately my daughter sent him to be cremated, so he is now home with us & now I just need to get a nice BIG!😳 wooden box for him that we can put a name plaque & photos on! Some of your horses at Stal G remind me so much of midnight, the black coat, big round bum, thick black main and tail! Big gentle giant who loves cuddles! ❤ seeing those things of toy horses an Stal G & now Stal H, trigger lots of happy memories of Midnight but sometimes very sad ones! I’m never going to be able to find a Percheron X or Friesian horse I can afford again now. I spend a little bit of time with my daughter & her 2 horses but I find it very hard to go there after seeing Midnight dead on the ground. But it will get easier with time! So if you ever have a little black colt you need to name with a “M” please call one “Midnight” in memory of my “Middi” & just say it’s in memory of my Midnight 💔❤️🥲 if would be SO heartwarming to know there is going to be another chunky black Midnight out there! & maybe if I win a lottery ticket I will come to visit and by myself a Friesian from you & call it Midnight!!! 🥰❤❤love to you all, please stay safe & be kind to yourself & listen when your body tells to to stop!! Hugs for all! From Tara in Australia!
