The sad part is that the law doesn't care about us. If you're car breaks down what do you do. Shops will not just take you in as they once did. If you don't have Id because you didn't have the money to pay to renew it you can't get a room for the night. If your tags run out because you are out of money you go to jail.. cop will take you to jail. The company you work for loves you but no you can't stay in the parking lot. It all comes down to one thing, the bad people. Laws came from bad people.with the economy today a lot of good people are heading to the streets. I think the worst is yet to come for all of us

Thank you for sharing your story. In many ways I can relate. I have been homeless with my first set of children (my eldest 3 due to DV and Family Violence), so I know that feeling all to well. But I also relate to the pain you spoke of and that's real talk right there. I pray Thee Most High GOD keeps you safe and sound in mind. I pray HIS Angels watch over you without ceasing. I also pray that Thee Most High GOD opens doors for you that NO ONE can close. Keep your head up Sis. Your blessings are on the way. Much love and hugs to you.

You really don't send billions to other countries though...you send loads to oversees aid which are totally corrupt and to oversees war which all goes to private hands not the people who need it. You also give billions to wealthy people like elon musk and amazon and big oil companies.... do not believe that youre helping the poor in other countries ..America does more damage and sure they send money to corrupt government to buy priveledge there but you're not helping the poor. Youre helping yourselves. As that is all that drives them. Dont forget you also get a lot from other countries. And Cúba gave you medicine during covid and you havent even paid for that. So im sorry whoever told you that they are handing out money to the poor foreigner ...thats yet another lie. You need to eexcercise your amendment right to overthrow your corrupt government.

Let me add: billions of dollars get actually wasted to corporate America, tax cuts for the Rich, often investing in Real estate ("with housing not affordable to people like this lady,) jobs that don't pay enough, just to start. So, don't even go to help that is being sent to other Nations who often are so needy bc of Industrialized countries!! Look, really look before you look at spending funds outside of the US!!

stuff really is getting expensive. i do stay lowkey bc lifes tough. i did kind of choose to be homeless. but i wanted my savings to be higher. i guess thats y it mightv e took longer for me to be placed somewhere, idk. but ppl telling me others having it rough, living in their cars is like 😑 i mean, they could be drug addicts too tho. and thats not fair. just bc i stayed at the shelter, as soon as it was time to let out, or for me to wake up from a shift/s,... u dont think i didnt want to be free too? but free for us also meant staying in my hot car.. my poor munchkin. shes prob so used to that car seat. but thankfully shes so little she wont remember anything. she was always more cooled down than me tho. i always had a usb charged fan l hanging from the handle of her car seat .she hated our apts first 2 days tho. i think it scared her. lol, till maybe she found out her voice echoes in here... & started realizing all our stuff is here. had to continuously give her tours. anyways, always running into ppl... im sure the haters loved i was strugglin. for the ones more distant, i guess stay hating. bc if only they could see me now, not. for the ppl i actually hafta be in contact with, i boast myself up some. lol didnt see me coming huh. like yeah finally made it to xyz in my savings. annnnd i got out the hood. idk man, the gov done put me up in the suburbs. its like out in the middle of nowhere tho. been praying to get out the freakin hood! heh the ish i tell my co workers tho... also, im not worried about car payments. id rather get 2 hooptys & focus on buying a house land or something. when i talked to my case worker, she was like wow. i dont think anyone here has ever asked me about those type of housing opportunities. & my banking stuff is renewed. . anyways, i got it bc i worked for it. "now leave me alone" also also at least Now ... i know some of more resources out here

I lived in a one bedroom apartment and was recovering from getting hit by a commercial truck and during the entire time of me going through treatment I was harassed and bullied by my full grown male neighbor and it was a daily him beating on the walls, slamming the bathroom cabinets and slamming the toilet seat at all hours. I complained to management but I never heard back on anything. I was told by my male manager that there was nothing he could do. After my treatment and getting better I chose to never live next door to anyone and I'm happily and peaceful living in my vehicle while working full time it has been 3 weeks now and I think that with God by my side all things are possible. So happy to be away from the noise!

Two biggest things: being one check away AND not having support. How many times have we seen where people didn’t have money BUT they had family who took them in and helped them through those low points? Struggling financially is one thing but when you DON’T have support, that’s when it all falls apart. We can all take a moment to look at ourselves and ask could we be more supportive to those around us.

People say homeless are lazy, but here we are working and living in cars. What most don't understand is that if the vehicle breaks down on these people they lose their so called home and then have to live in the streets, then lose their jobs because they are dirty from no showers, they get their id's stolen, they have no address so they can't get a new job. This is why we have so many homeless.

Lazy people make excuses without a solution. Being a grown up is about independence -- not needy nor self-entitled. Stop trying to get sympathy from others and focus on your dreams. What do you really want out of life? Get cleaned and get a job being productive. Life is good when you stop the pity party and truly embrace helping others rather than expecting society to help you.

To be fair, when most people think of homeless people, they aren't thinking of actual homeless people. They are thinking of crackheads and drug addicts. No one thinks a person who is homeless due to a loss of job is lazy. The problem is the crackheads and drug addicts make ALL homelessness look bad. The crackheads are the only homeless people we see, not the homeless people who actually are sane minded and hard workers. Those people are usually taking advantage of all of the city's benefits, following rules, and getting back on their feet.

I have a coworker who makes the same amount as I do, but she's homeless. I offered to let her stay in my room, but she wants to rent in an area that's not in the budget, so she opted live in her car and goes around getting sympathy. Having a pity party is only leaving you stuck in life.

Working in real estate opened my eyes to so much that I almost lost my mind. When I tell you they could house people in many of these properties that are vacant for years on end. Then to see the amount of realtors that were homeless living out of their cars, hotels, sleeping from couch to couch, listing to listing (squatting in vacant properties)blew my mind. How are people selling other people homes but still can not afford to own or rent a home of their own? Then you also realize that you will NEVER own a thing in this so called country. I watched elderly people who’s homes had been paid off for longer than I have been alive, losing their homes due to unpaid property taxes. They were unable to work because of course they were OLD and would be on the verge of losing their home of would lose it completely. I can go on and on. I gave up completely after what I witnessed and experienced. I looked at everything as the huge scam that it is. Still battling severe depression because of the toll that it took on my mental health.

As a daughter of Italian immigrants, I value and commend the Italian tradition that any unmarried child live at home until they marry. It seems the "American" way is 18 and out. I personally had relatives whose children never married but lived in the homestead until and after parents died. One has to wonder if many of the homeless have parents who could take them in but won't. How thankful I am that I was a product of this Italian tradition having lived at home until marriage at 32.

This Western 'culture' is actually more destructive. Low income homes particularly aren't always good environments to be able to stay home especially if there's limited to no space, there's chaos in the home, negativity and sadness or the home was never stable in the 1st place. I believe a big part of the homeless issue in America is due to Americans normalization of kicking their children out at 18yrs old. Having to pay an entire rent and bills almost immediately after high school is ridiculous. Staying at home and being able to save is the best thing a young person can do for themselves. My mom took $100 of the $600 in rent I gave her and put $100 aside. When I finally moved out, she gave me an envelope with $9,600 and a 2nd envelope with $1000 from her and my dad as a farewell gift as i was finally leaving home.❤

@skillethead15

That’s a part of it but the biggest issue is unaffordable housing. In the city I live in they build nothing but expensive luxury apartments and big expensive houses. Nothing is affordable anymore. So you have people stuck in the middle who make too much money for housing assistance but not enough to afford rent so they wind up living in a car.

@@Carolyn-vh4nz Yea the times are changing but wages are staying the same and that’s the problem. You shouldn’t need to get creative just to find somewhere to live. It’s one of the most basic necessities, shelter. And it’s absolutely insane how convoluted the whole process has gotten. And thanks to greed and the government’s unwillingness to step in and stop these greedy people, it has gotten this bad. And I see no better future with these legislators in power. If you work a full time job, you should be able to afford all your basic needs. But it’s not the case for millions of Americans.
@skillethead15
@skillethead15 Жыл бұрын
@@Carolyn-vh4nz The world doesn’t work like that because we have let greed take control. Things were not this bad even just 10 years ago. But during the pandemic people went into debt, lost their jobs/homes and the rich got richer by price gouging the necessities. This is not the way people should have to live. And our government could 100% step in and fix things but thanks to lobbyists it’s not going to happen. But regardless, people working full time jobs shouldn’t have to rely on other people just to survive and have a roof over their head. That’s absolutely ridiculous and it’s crazy that you seem to accept this reality. We need to vote in younger people who understand the struggle and kick out all the old people who grew up when the American dream was still a thing.

Most Americans are living one check away from being homeless I was just talking to my sister about this yesterday. She didn’t realize that there are so many people living in their car even prior to the pandemic happening. I think the key for her is going to be to make different decisions, and instead of taking several low-paying jobs, and aim for one higher paying job. And for that she’s either going to need to go back to formal school or get some type of trade or certification. I grew up with a drug addict mother, moving around, homeless off and on and then became a teenage mom. I eventually graduated from college, found a better job, and became a homeowner. I feel like if I can do it ANYBODY can do it! Just gotta put your head down and get to work! 💪🏾 it’s going to be hard you’re going to want to quit, you’re going to wonder if the sacrifices are worth it but it will be. I went from food stamps, homeless, and section 8 to flying out of the country. God is so good! 🙏🏾

As an homeowner I can say that in some states even if you make a higher wage or decent salary, homes are really not affordable. Affordable housing will be the solution. Many people are choosing to purchase tiny homes and even then some states will not have enough land or allow permits to build tiny homes.

It’s so hard. I stayed in winter of 2020 in the Midwest. I worked at a call center and bed bath beyond while living in my sedan. Once it got to Dec. - Feb. were unbearable. I layer wool and blankets but it was miserable. I have no heat in my car and the 12v electric blanket would run the battery down. I got a buddy heater but was so afraid of carbon monoxide or it being a fire hazard I never used it. It was so difficult to get up in the morning and get ready for work in freezing temperatures and go in and try to pretend like everything is normal. I ended up leaving the call center because they weren’t happy with my less than robotic productivity and I got let go of Bed Bath Beyond for being late. I was seeing a social worker for mental health counseling at the time and ended up moving south to a warmer climate and worked as a cook until the pandemic shut down the state. One of the worst things was brushing my teeth in freezing temperatures and the pain in my gums from the ice cold water. People that never experienced living without a roof over their head laughed and couldn’t understand how a normal everyday task could be so difficult.

I crack the windows if it was cool, and pump the AC if it was too hot or the mosquitoes were out. Yo! That was one of the best sleeps of my life! 💯 So I thought to myself, if I give up my $1800 a month apartment, donate 90 % of my stuff to salvation army, and got a $150 a month storage for the rest of my belongings, and utilize my $40 a month L.A. Fitness gym membership for showers, I could save about $1600 a month plus. So that's what I did, and I've never felt so free! I'm happy to be rid of all that STUFF, and living a minamilist lifestyle. I've been there homeless in my Pontiac G6 with my 2 daughters one disabled with epilepsy and me having a frozen hip on disability and my other daughter working we struggled hard to get where we are now! The most hardest was sanity and the rules of where to park and predator's! I still can't rap my mind around how our country will help illegal migrants and not the ppl of this country its disgusting and appalling! You are a amazing strong woman! This lady deserves a home. She's so well-spoken and resourceful. I know that feeling of when you're stuck at home as a teen, your mom is just speaking negativity and laying in her bedroom. And my mom did her best in many ways but unlearning that negative thinking is such a huge burden, especially when you have people excelling and succeeding with lots of support while you're on the ground just mustering up the will to see what tomorrow brings. But she figured out that she has to embrace the life she's got and take care of herself, I just hope that spark will happen where she can start seeing things exponentially grow for herself and not have to fight for the basics every day. I hope one day I can find out what happens next.

Everything this women said is spot on. I am homeless. I stay in a tent. People keep thinking having a job is the key of ending homelessness but it's not especially dealing with employees and employers that treat you like shit plus housing is sky rocking. Instead of people saying homeless people rather stay homeless start saying they been out here for so long that they have adapted to surviving on the streets. It's all about getting yourself right mentally and seeing it as a challenge. The first time I became homeless was April 7, 2017 and been homeless ever since

this is real. Word of advice, avoid extra tinting on the windows. Keep it street legal. Cops love to use over tinted windows as easy probably cause (even if they're not), especially for POC. Instead buy window meshes that stick to the glass. That way it doesn't constitute as tinting, you can still get some privacy, and if you need it darker you can drape a cloth over it for extra concealment. And please please please buy a wheel lock!

I always knew the powers that run this country want to move to a system of “the have/have nots.” I’m in my mid 40’s and could have never imagined I would see this in my lifetime. This is NOT ok, this is NOT acceptable in this country. God be with this woman. Been living on the road for 11 years. Started out in a van for first 8 years, now in a small hatchback. I have a few disabilities but have worked to the best of my ability all my life. Owned my own small business. But I'm alone , children in their 30's with families of their own. Had no reason to continue to pay all those bills to keep a house running just to sit there and stare at the walls alone, so I hit the road. Now after 11 years of living in a vehicle, I am beyond burnt out on it. I would love to have a home again but could not afford even the crappiest of houses. And can't afford $2,000 a month for a tiny apartment. So it is no wonder at all so many people are living this way. You simply can not afford to live in a house, apt, etc. ❤

I worked at a government job lost my section 8 voucher when I made over 38,000 for a family of two in Dupage county in Illinois, That same income didn’t allow me to rent any place because I still didn’t make 3 times the rent to live in the place that section 8 was paying rent for me so I became homeless. It’s harder with a male growing into a a teenager. The system is a beast. if you have a housing voucher stay under the radar $ mark. The system does not want you to grow into sufficient human, they want you to die on the clock and neglect your child by being at work all day too tired to eat trying to keep a roof over your head and keep your family together. I learned a lot about life. Please understand I am here with a real message. I also became sick and didn’t get paid for my Covid leave. I lost everything and had I had still had my voucher I would have been able to bounce back but I did not have any help if you are a single woman keep your voucher unless you won the lottery. There is no story of ohhh I left the system and became sufficient. That no longer exist rent is to high . And if you leave go into a home owner because being sick for 3 months won’t cause you to be kicked out of your own house. I am Trying to save someone, nobody saved me 👩🏾 😣☹️😢.

I had family in DuPage who lost their voucher because of the same reason you stated. Now struggling to pay $2000 in rent. And DuPage doesn't have the homeownership program. Cook County does, and I took advantage of the program, and was lucky to have bought a house. It's more protection under the homeownership program, but they don't want you to have that either, because for ten years, I've been subjected to illegal inspections which could've made me to loose my house. And they won't help you with resources if you wanna better yourself by getting a degree; but their more than happy to send you to 'job fairs' for the kind of jobs that put you in the income bracket where you no longer qualify for any help from the government, but still not enough to make it on your own. Thank you for sharing your story.

I'm so glad I came across this channel. I lived in my car from March 18th 2018 to May 2020 I made it work and I was 350 lb lost it all thank God but I would have been more comfortable in a Ford focus if I wasn't hundreds of pounds. But everything she says relates to what I did to. As a matter of fact when she said I sleep better in the car than a bed I left because the first week I have my apartment I actually went down to my car and slept because I couldn't sleep. I have planet fitness I stayed different places but you notice other people live in their car too. And when covid hit I couldn't even take a shower or anything anymore so I got a tarp I go out in the woods and by the way I'm in Florida swamps Gators put a piece of plastic down with a couple of gallons of water a bath. Have a great big family nobody would help because they said I left my husband because I was mentally unfit and I needed to go back home my daughter had been missing for 4 months I had a nervous breakdown I have PTSD but they don't believe in none of that my daughter is safe she's doing great and I'm glad I did at the end of staying in my car it was so hard. So I'm moving my apartment May 7th I'd been on the waiting list for 8 months 2 days after I move in they call and tell me I had to move out because they weren't supposed to let me move in because of covid and I told him they would have to take me to court so they redid my lease and says I moved on June 27th which is crazy but I just. Just wanted to share part of my story. And I wouldn't get a hotel either every other month I might but I worked so much all I had to do was sleep and get right back up I worked for hard Rock casino they fed us breakfast lunch and dinner so that helped. Lebanon Florida you got to make that money mine when I started with 900 for rent I'm now at since May 2020 it's getting to where you can't afford to live but I tell you the first damn thing I pay is my rent cuz I sold my car I can't afford insurance so if I lose this place EFT in the end I have my first month last month deposit and enough money to finish my entire house because I moved in here with a duffel bag I lost everything when I left my husband the only thing I took with me were my photo albums

I work two jobs myself. I work 6am to 2pm Monday thru Friday. During the week I work 4-10 pm on my other job. I work Saturday on my second job and have Sundays off. When my landlords said that it was time for my renewal my rent was going up again to almost $200 more. So since my daughter has already moved out I decided apartment life wasn't for me anymore. Fees keep adding up and they have no explanation but you still have to pay. So my choice is to avoid all those fees and live out my car during the week. On the weekends I rent a motel room. Comes out much cheaper.

Some ppl refuse to work and be in this rat race matrix you're describing, receiving no assistance. Keep your elitism to yourself and look up the definition of insanity. Then try telling someone to "work" (whichyou mean as a place telling you when to eat, sleep, shit, and breathe) when it robs you of so much. Literally. You're no better off clocking in and out than someone who refuses to, if all it takes is one event to put you in an equal footing
