I have no Verizon cell service at my camp and a friend came up with this puck. I had Wi-Fi instantly, could make telephone calls, and put it in my truck as we drove around. Never lost the internet or Wi-Fi and my phone worked. I was hooked. It’s between this and the T-Mobile home internet with unlimited data. Someone is bringing one of those up to camp to try out this weekend.

It’s cool but it’s basically just a 4G cellular modem that has an eSIM and only works on T-mobile and AT&T networks. It’s a re-branded Simo device. It’s nice that it can connect to both networks to get the best signal. Theoretically it would work with a Weboost for more remote areas but still you are limited to areas that have a decent cell signal. Starlink on the other hand is truly go anywhere internet and probably much faster in remote areas.

For sure, I see your points, but it does also work with Verizon. It does work well with weboost, I forgot to mention that. Starlink is true go anywhere but the reality is when I’m closer to cities it’s not as fast as this little guy, so I prefer having both working full time on the road

Flat mount roof starlink is the way to go. No need to deploy it anymore.

For the reasons noted in the video… I disagree. Redundant connections is the way to go. If you prefer Starlink as your primary… you should have a hotspot as a secondary… for obvious reasons.

I’ll be doing a flat mount starlink soon but still will use this device closer to cities or anytime I have a connection really, because it’s been faster so far

@@Down2Mob you have a cellphone contract too, or no? I have an "unlimited" hotspot contract with t-mobile which usually is enough for about two weeks of work. But sometimes a choice campsite just doesn't have good enough cell service

Starlink is 1000 times better. We did a flat roof setup with ours. Starlink was getting 200mbps and the homefi was only getting about 22mbps. It’s great if you are in a pinch but starlink is better.

I would not recommend this product. It works OK, didn't have huge speeds. The problem is when you cancel. 1. no place on the website to cancel. 2. You have to cancel through a chat conversation. 3. They make you send the unit back or they charge like $120. I got that orange hockey puck. This is their email. I would recommend the tmobile tower ************* We're sad to see you go but we totally respect your decision. To finalize your cancellation request, we only need the HomeFi device returned to us. Please note that if the device is not returned within 7 days after plan cancellation or returned damaged, a device fee of $130 will be charged. Please return the device with all original accessories, including the charger, box, cable, USB adapter, quick start guide, and any other accompanying items. If the original packaging is unavailable, please use suitable alternatives to ensure adequate shipping protection. Kindly be aware that a $25 restocking fee will apply to eligible returned devices, which is common among retailers to cover processing and resale costs.

I still don't see how this is better than starlink. 4G mobile hotspots like this usually slow you down after using so many gigabytes whereas startlink doesn't. Also in rural areas you are more likely to have a very poor or no cellular signal like me for example
@obxclean237
@obxclean237 11 ай бұрын
It's not contracted through the cell provider so your not capped through your usage with high speed your just cut off when you run out. They basically are middlemen that contract through the 3 biggest cell network providers and pay them per service used. That way they get to make a profit while providing you with the fastest option available for service no matter where you are at. Also keep in mind you connect to the fastest one automatically, so while driving you will stay connected to internet which is a must for travelers working from the road. If anything it's a great back up option to be able to work mobile while driving with out connecting to your phones hot spot and draining your cell data.

So basically what you just explain to me is, I’m gonna buy an item and pay a service once a month so I can connect it to my home Internet that I don’t have or my phone to use it that makes zero sense because where I live there is no Internetunless it comes from your cell phone, there is no Wi-Fi where I’m at phone service only

Some days it is annoying but I do enjoy sleeping with the top down and how cozy my space is. Also, I’ve got my new mountain bike setup on the roof rack with AC and propane, so I’m really utilizing that storage now. It’s way better than having a bike bouncing around the back of the rig. Urban camping I don’t pop the top and I love that

what was your experience with the registration and set up with the mobile hotspot. I saw that it is advertised as 80% for 200gb with the hotspot free to use with plan. However there isi a service fee and a rental fee making the sub total $93. it isn't such a big deal that $13, but it seems a little hidden in all their adverts on socials, which makes it somewhat like I'm dealing with people who aren't super concerned with being transparent with me. Which could be me being extra over $13, but it's the principle. I ask these to you because more of the search results for content around this are primarly by the company itself. oh "Routers are not subject to the refund policy as they are not charged for upon checkout. " what does this mean? you don't have to return the device? haha
