I wish companies were more inclined to allow remote work. I work IT in a hospital. All my work can be done at home, but they will not allow anyone to do that. I hate working in a cubicle, and honestly I would be ecstatic to never look at a computer monitor again. I'm looking into a career change now so I can actually be on the road. This video gave a helpful perspective. Can't wait to see what other people have to say too.

Thank you, thank you for doing this! I am trying SO HARD to find a remote job so I can hit the road, but in the literal hundreds I see and apply to, none are contacting me, almost to the point I think something is "going on", but I don't know what. This after have had worked remotely for almost 4 years in the tech industry, then getting laid off last year during Covid lockdown. I'm getting increasingly tense about finding ANYTHING remote, and this helps greatly. I've talked in person with other KZbinrs- and they instantly clam up when asked how they support themselves- you are doing a great service over-and-above your entertainment by doing this series- this is INCREDIBLY important. Thank you!

I’ve worked remote from my current job for the last four years. I worked in the office for 5 years before that. I’m a data processor and my company gives me a lot of flexibility as to where I live and work. I do have a lot of cumbersome equipment and I never thought about packing it all up to take on vacation with me. That’s actually a really good idea and I’m going to try that out. Thanks for sharing this information. I’m looking forward to hearing other people share their experiences.

You're onto something, Cass. Interviewing a diverse group of road (work) warriors, you'll not only introduce the variety of jobs suitable for a transient lifestyle, but they'll each have their own 'office' (RV) which no doubt shapes 'how' they do their work. I have not seen another YT channel approach the topic this way and I'll bet it will become a truly popular info source on YT. Congrats on such a good theme!

Another great video, Cass. You continue to be an inspiration for my daughter, who wishes to do something similar in a few years. he has a request: Yes you have talked about your own personal security and safety a bit in at least one video, but could you have an entire episode that discusses security and safety, especially as a lone individual? It doesn't need to be about your personal choices per se, but maybe you could talk about how others tackle the issue and how each state may have different laws and the importance of checking them if you travel. Just an idea. Rock on, young lady!
@TailsofWanderlust3 жыл бұрын
Hi John - that's a great idea for a video. I've struggled with it a bit, as you point out, that I don't want to give away all my tricks. But I like the idea of potentially interviewing or highlighting what others do as well. Thank you!
@JohnCarolina8703 жыл бұрын
@@TailsofWanderlust Yes ma'am. I would not you to compromise the things you do to stay safe. Perhaps you could interview others off-camera or find an expert on the subject of security to discuss the matter. I think you are inspiring a lot of young women with your videos but as a Dad, I am terrified about my daughter living "out there" on her own and want her to to be armed with as much knowledge as possible. I am sure your family and friends have worried plenty on your behalf! I think having a big dog (Jasper in your case) is very smart. Dogs are incredible for security. May I ask, does your pooch get alert and bark when things don't seem right? Barking dogs certainly scare off nefarious folks. Keep staying safe in your adventures!
@TailsofWanderlust3 жыл бұрын
Jasper absolutely barks and scares things off. He's actually much louder than most dogs, as he barks when there's a new noise, when friends are coming over, when he sees a squirrel, when the wind blows, when there is a spider and when I look at him 😂. But I never trained him not to bark, with the intent that I wanted him to be alert and make me aware of anything. So he can be quite loud when I'm camped near others, but I wouldn't trade it for anything when I'm out camping alone. I've also learned what his different barks/body language mean so I know if it is a threat or not.
@JohnCarolina8703 жыл бұрын
@@TailsofWanderlust lol. That's great. My guess is security tip #1 for you would be GET A DOG (one that barks). We are a camping family (not to your extent of course) but there is no greater pleasure than camping in Western NC this time of year, and with our big Golden Retriever along. Talk about a dog that is alert to things around him! Of course, out there "security" also involves bears so one must be prepared for that as well. I believe I saw that you had some time in NC so you likely know what I mean. Take care. 👍👍
@TailsofWanderlust3 жыл бұрын

Thank you for sharing this and for the upcoming series! My wife and I are working towards becoming "part time" nomads. The information you provided was very helpful. One thing we struggle with is what a typical work week for us would look like, ie. daily work schedule, planning for travel days, looking for cell service, etc. My wife has more of a "technology" skillset, remote jobs for her plentiful. For me, I have more of a "technical" skillset, mechanic, carpentry, etc. I'm more at home in a dirty workshop or under the hood of a car than on a zoom call. Most of the jobs I can find are sales and customer service positions, which I'm comfortable working on location with, but remotely is another story. On the other hand, she and I are completely miserable having to commute, and working at a physical location every day.

Hi Curtis! Can understand your dilemma there. Working on the phone/internet is so much different than working with your hands. Also, Internet connection while working? Last, do you think camper/RV companies are rigging their newer models with remote workers in mind?
@TailsofWanderlust3 жыл бұрын
Hi Oscar! For taxes, it's best to consult with a tax professional. You will need a domicile state (mine is TX), but then depending on the work and state you are in, you may need to file separate state taxes for states you travel through. And yes, RV companies are absolutely starting to build this into their design. I've seen office workspaces in the new Airstreams and heard of other companies interviewing digital nomads for their input. I "could" live full time on the road (if I had to). I debate it all the time. I'm financially secure, I love nature and adventure, I like the challenges that #vanlife brings. But my biggest hesitation is downsizing my stuff. I like my business suits, I like that I have 30+ pairs of nice shoes (and that I know the differences between chukka's, monk straps and Balmorals), I like fancy restaurants; and diner parties and sporting events. I don't know if I'll ever give up 100% of one for the other... I'm nature in heart but city raised.
@TailsofWanderlust3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a part-time style may work really well for you. Working remote gives you the opportunity to travel for however long you'd like, but then you can always return back to the city to enjoy the amenities. And after vanlife taking a real shower and wearing one of those suits would probably feel incredible!

How do your monthly expenses compare to when you had your apartment? It seems like everything is a trade off, but that living on the road might be a little less expensive.
@TailsofWanderlust3 жыл бұрын
The way I live can be less expensive since I boondock most of the time. If I were to stay in RV parks more often, it would probably be more expensive. Here's some more details if you'd like: tailsofwanderlust.com/2020/09/25/how-much-does-it-cost-to-live-in-an-rv/

Hi Robin! Thanks for watching. I use cell phone hotspots to connect to the internet, and sometimes a booster/antenna. I often stick to boondocking sites with strong signal so don't need them very often. Here's the full details on the setup if you are interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p32QamWPd5l9hck

Nice video. Love Jasper drinking off the counter:) I am guessing your income far exceeds your expenses with your lifestyle. I hope you are aggressively saving and investing. I bet you are building your investments and passive income very quickly (e.g. dividend portfolio) which ultimately empowers true independence. Its great to have a fulltime job while living on the road but even better to not need one!

remote workers being lazy working only 3 hrs a day in their pajamas is a myth. if anything you need more discipline and sometimes the work never ends.
@TailsofWanderlust3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely agree with you on that. Most of the remote workers I know work very hard and long hours each day. Thanks for watching!
@carlh-thehermitwithwi-fi6793 жыл бұрын
my girl has worked remote 5 years, hybrid 1. i worked remote for a year, going back to that now. Remote work starts earlier, ends later, and people will work when they are sick. We all knew it was more effective, but the "commercial real estate" market and the "how do i know you are working if i cant see you" nonsense is officailly over.
@TailsofWanderlust3 жыл бұрын
Such a relief. One of my old bosses would watch remote workers like a hawk. If you showed away at all during the day they’d bring it up. So much for bathroom breaks! It’s amazing that it’s more accepted now.
