So you can actually play basketball with 2, or if you are already ahead, maybe 1. (This is the college rule, in the NBA disqualified players continue to play if there aren't 5 left)

Um... because it works? BTW, not everyone runs 100 mile weeks. When I ran at NCC, I occasionally topped 90, but when healthy I was more in the 75-85 mile range.

@@GreekSoldier46 Arthur Lydiard would even put his 800 and 1500 m runners on 100 mile weeks during the base phase. The rationale is that anything longer than a minute in race duration is essentially a mostly aerobic event, and thus training the aerobic system makes sense. That system is best trained by high volume, low to moderate intensity running. Time spent running basically.

Kipchoge is running on road, without sharp turns, same rhythm all the time, with rabbits, in peak season, few times a year. These guys running on grass, with turns, starting and stopping, no rabbit, in pre-season, all the time, and while running 100 miles a week. Kipchoge is far better, no question, but all these things make a big difference.

Me too. I think these guys have been skinny and been running their whole lives. Possibly they have a lot of slow twitch muscle fibers enhanced by training aerobic endurance.

Agree completely with Capt Commander. You will naturally stay skinny no matter how much you eat at longer distances per week. For instance I used to eat 5 bowls of food 4 meals a day at 100 (super slow) miles a week and the food didnt make a dent in how much I was burning.

I don't really believe that they do a 5 mile tempo run (at threshold pace) before this insane workout unless by tempo he just means a faster easy pace.

Yeah, I agree. I looked up these guys' times and there's no way they could do a 5 mile tempo and a 4x1 mile that fast. Even their mile times look a little too fast for a grass course with sharp turns. So the mile might be a touch short.

The Noodle if the extreme were to happen (like if you’re bench gets ejected or so many players foul out, etc.) and you only have 4 players left, you can play with those 4. Look up the Alabama vs Minnesota game last year Alabama had to play with 3 players lol, I think that was what the coach was alluding to
