Thank you for letting us hear the raw sounds of Jake breathing and feet hitting the ground, without adding obnoxious music like other running videos do.

Stupid music and a idiots spewing out motivational nonsense is not running.

I second both of the previous comments. Thanks to Sweat Elite, people can hear how elite runners breathe in a certain rhythm at a certain effort range. You would never know watching Flotrack stuff.

presumably you mean he is heavy yeah? What would be a more optimum weight for him at 5 ft 11?
@NTavo3 жыл бұрын
@@tatlerr Interestingly enough Ryan Hall who holds the half marathon American world record, came out with a short video talking about running and weight. He predicted that if he was around 152 - 157 he would probably be able to run a 2:17 - 2:18 marathon. Most marathon runners at the olympic level are going to be in the 120 - 130 range and at the high end be around 140.

@@tatlerr The rule of thumb for the ideal race weight for male distance runners is your height in inches, multiplied by 2 pounds per inch, plus or minus 10 pounds. Under that formula, a man who is 5’11” should be no heavier than 152. There are exceptions of course. Exhibit A: Chris Solinsky.

I find the 5-6x4-5min intervals to be a great bang for buck in terms of vO2 improvement. They suck though. I remember so many days going to work and thinking "I am going to pass out sometime today." Still, can't argue with results. Adding these to the season propelled me to several 10k and half marathon wins.
@randyevermore93233 жыл бұрын
My HS x-country coach had us run 5 x 1 mile on our cinder track every Monday during the season. At the start of the season, we were given 9 min to run the mile and rest before starting the next one. The rest was reduced each week, so by the end of the season we had 7 min to run the mile and rest. I ended up averaging 4:52 by the end of the season and was probably in the best shape of my life, even better than in college. Those max VO2 workouts are indeed mentally brutal but so effective.

The coach explaining the workout plan is good because its difficult to hear a coach that knows what hes talking about anywhere. Also i think he needs teammates to try to win the gold? I mean team running always helps and these elite americans running alone. This is not like diving or doing flips this is a serious sport where you got to be top of 8 billion people fighting extreme odds and statistics and racing vs incredible east-african runners. Hope he wins though.

Then again, Lasse Viren mostly trained alone. So did Sebastian Coe, for the most part. I think it has some advantages, like allowing you to concentrate on your form, cadence, and relaxation, rather than thinking about where you stand in relation to others.

I'm failing to see the WOW factor here. 5 x mile isn't that much volume!! Ok so the pace is honest but 5 miles @ 4:45?? Maybe 10 x mile is something impressive
@liamhowgate40223 жыл бұрын
It's not huge volume, but the short recovery will mean that his heart-rate doesn't drop too much. It's an uptempo workout so lactic will accumulate quickly
@leetroop733 жыл бұрын
I’m not a wow factor coach. We wouldn’t do 10 x 1 mile, 20 x 1K or 40 x 400m; because Jake’s volume comes from his 22 mile run every Sunday. Our workouts are simple “bread and butter” workouts.
