Workshop 011 The Hip Bones Connected to the Thigh Bone

When you're starting from scratch, it's a good idea to think things through. Before you ever drive that first nail, twist a screw, cut a board, etc. you must have a plan or else you are likely to regret it later. It's ok to amend your vision as you go, but dang if it's not just plain silly to set off for the store if you don't have directions or already know the way. Am I right?
I can think of many times I have attacked big goals both ways. Prepared and otherwise. And the former, for sure is the better way. Then, once you're committed (hopefully not in a mental institution) you just keep at it. As long as it's not painfully obvious that your plan is shit, then, 'just keep swimming'. Untold amounts of times in my life, I have achieved pretty great things because I kept at it. Not necessarily because I was exceptionally skilled. Simply because I had more patience then the average Joe. What do you think?

One of the things I'm learning as I get older is how important it is to take a few minutes and really think through an entire plan before starting on any project. I've always had a knack for figuring out how to work around any issues that come up in a project, but it's definitely better to take a little time to think beforehand.

Keep it rolling Marty! After retiring I find myself building all sorts of stuff and I found the most helpful tool is the eraser. I’m building a portable hunting blind, 4’x6’ trailer with studded wall box…. Sat back with a cold drink multiple times with graph paper and pencil and that eraser saved me from making costly mistakes and better ideas each time I used it. Almost tried wearing the pail over over my head for more concentration Thankin Thankin Thankin 😂 keep the videos coming!

I left my trailer basically bare bone (except for all the mounting tracks literally everywhere) so I can use it for the move but I have done so much research on what people do with trailers and rabbit holes it took me on like using us general and yukon tables and carts and how people do cabinetry and flooring and work benches. I am so far away from being able to do all that but when I do I want it to be modular so I can take it all out and put it back in so what I did was mount all the rails to metal studs and e-track actually has 2x4 brackets so I can hang anything anywhere. People take all this trailer stuff super serious and in your case because you work with stuff habitually it has to be done exactly how you want it because you are the one that has to see it on the daily. its fun how from a simple few tasks turns into more tasks because really there were so many pieces that werent even to be considered yet but reality is no you need to consider each thing. thankfully its great when you can take small steps at a time. keep up the good work marty

It's a lot of fun watching you figuring out this stuff. It's something I'm doing in my garage at this moment. Also, if you want to support the ends of the trusses, get L shaped brackets and screw them to the ends, sideways onto the aluminum top header. If that makes sense.

You do need to support the roof and walls better (because of all the stuff I KNOW you will hang on them). So my suggestion is to use 2x4 studs laid flat to the walls to go floor to roof at each wood roof joist. Then build your workbenches and upper cabinets attached to the wall studs, adding lateral 2x4 between studs where needed. Should give plenty of support without stressing the existing walls.

I have to say, sitting on the work bench should not be the determining factor in height... unless you have company and SHE'S sitting on the bench... Then *PERFECT* height *IS* important! Other than that, the standard workbench height is roughly 34 inches

I don’t get it. What must the roof trusses support? Do you plan on a heavy load on the roof? The walls are not designed for load either. Shelf support should come from the flour. Just saying. Engineer Duke.
