Wet ammo rack or/and safe stowage are "must have" after 8.8 patch (if I remember well) when IS-3 frontal armor was nerfed. Ammo rack tends to explode so often. And when it does, you are so f...d up!

Nikola Nedeljkovic Ammo rack tends to explode often, yes. But I admit I made a small mistake in my comment. In almost every game (very often, it will be destroyed twice!) your ammo rack will be destroyed without of explosion which increases reload time to aprox. 22 seconds! That's a true issue of IS-3. Otherwise, that tank is a fucking beast!

Jingles, my man. Because of this review, I killed a pristine IS-3 by putting ten shells from my Black Prince's top gun into that plate on the top of the turret. The IS-3 made the mistake of settling into a depression to camp, while my Black Prince could depress enough to hit his turret, but the terrain prevented him from firing back.

As far as skills go, repair is the best for all crew members just like you said. For a second skill, go sixth sense (is-3 can be played like a medium, plus Russian camo can be crazy good sometimes), snap shot, smooth ride, and safe stowage (is-3 is notorious for exploding/ammo rack damage). I love my is-3 and its an amazing tank, and I hope this helps anyone thinking about getting it!

look at this tank on the 8.9 test server. the model change looks badass! and it helps when getting shot in the side because there isn't as much unspaced side armor to shoot at like the IS-8 now. also the turret is now more rounded and is 249mm at the front.

I think the Eagle Eye perk is a good idea actually. Since you are fighting most of the times in close range, and if you know someone has a damaged turret, engine or ammo rack, you can take advantage of those situations.

I've been playing this tank solo (as I almost always do {NA}), it's a heck of a lot more fun than the IS; though I cant say the same about the skill of some players I find myself with. It seems like with each patch more horrible players flood in (specifically those of the tier 8 premium variety), I've had several battles where T34's with their high penetration were bouncing repeatedly off Kv5's, as they didn't have the skill to aim for a weak spot. In either case, nice video keep em coming :P.

In the version of the game this was recorded with that ding would sound when you got a critical hit (destroyed equipment on the enemy tank). They removed the ding around 8.0 I think but you can get mods to put it back in.

I didn't deny anyone anything, he wasn't good or lucky enough to get it, in that game. I understand the concept, and I have on occasion offered up kills gift-wrapped to players who only need one more for an award (look at my latest Churchill video), but on the whole I believe these awards are there to be earned, and if they're handed to you on a silver platter they're meaningless.

If you can angle this this tank like you would for a normal front plate and block the frontmost side of the pike with a low piece of cover, presenting only the other side of the pike at an extreme angle, you will bounce a LOT, while still being able to fire back. Revere sidescraping is VERY powerful in this tank too.

Rammer, vents, and stabilizer is the best equipment load out for the is-3 (for most tier 8+ heavy tanks in the game tbh) a stabilizer does more than a GLD for every tank in the game except SOME autoloaders who load faster than they aim. When it says that a tank is 20% more accurate on the move, it also means that there is 20% less time between when you stop your tank and when you're fully aimed in. Same goes for smooth ride.

I tried them on the 8.2 test server, the mediums were bloody awful - no gun depression at all. Quite liked the heavies though, interesting variations of existing Soviet designs. When the 8.3 test went up I logged in once, confirmed that the meds at least had shit gun depression now (which is an improvement) and pretty much lost all further interest.

You forget the Abrahm's super advanced armor. Not only is it sloped, but it is lined with depleted uranium, ceramic plates, air pockets, and steel plates. Plus, it is covered in reactive armor that will not allow the round to even begin to penetrate the hull or turret. Besides, in all likely hood, the Abrahms will hit and kill the T-90 or T-72 on the move from 2 miles away before the other tank can even begin to try to shoot back. It isn't all about armor and firepower anymore.

The IS-3 was inpenetratable from the front in desert wars against Pershings, it was used effectively from 1950-1980, with the last decommissioned in 1999. Far longer service than it's rivals.

I want to say that smooth ride is a good perk because it lowers the aiming time. It makes the aiming circle smaller and you dont have to aim for that little,but not for the first crew skill

@BohemianEagle Look. The thing you don't seem to have got is that Vertical Stabilizers make your aiming time 20% faster. You see, both it and the gun laying drive reduce the aiming time. Since the aiming circle won't get so big, it will also get small faster. VS reduces aiming time by shortening the way, and GLD by going faster. But effectively, the VS is twice as good as the GLD. And the same goes partially to smooth ride, since the aiming reticle won't be as big when moving, you'll aim faster.

I havent played the IS 3 yet. But I find the front is very easy to penetrate with everything that does more than 200 mm. Even with the Type 59 I menage to get through with 5 out of 10 shots. A tip: If you have a hard time doing demage from the front and you are close enough, you can aim for the drivers optics. (right in the middle, underneath the turret.)

Actually i thought those "parascopes" were actually ways for air to get to the crew. They are scoops to push air in while the tank is driving. The drivers sight is actually underneath the turret right in the center which is a key position to attack.

I dunno jingles, I reliably penetrate the top of the turret when I'm up close and personal. The IS3 is quite short, and when in a tight spot I find that it's a great spot to aim for. Obviously not at 100m+, which I think your point was.

Don't worry too much about it. Everyone has a shit rating in their first few thousand games. You need around 5000 games played to raise it to a respectable level at around tier 8 before you can overcome the awful rating you earned for yourself while noobing it up through the lower tiers.

Correct. Although there are sometimes free tank give-aways, many people will sell those tanks and voila! A new empty slot. And to be honest, 300 gold is pretty cheap in real-life money considering a top end premium tank costs 10000+ gold. I have around 40+ slots, slowly accumulated over time.

Jingles, the lower plate on the IS-3 is much thicker that the upper pike nose plate, you do not need to care about people shooting it, its effective 250-260mm strait on.

I play IS-3 and most of the time my shots fail to do anything to anybody including other IS-3s and they are taking off half my health at a time. There was even one time i was against another IS-3 and we shot each other in the exact same spot, my shot did nothing and his took me down to 1%. What am i doing wrong?

Hey Jingles, what do you think of Effiency on single tanks? Is itt matter something or not? I have 1664rating on the IS-3 with 608 battles, this is my most played tank, and the highest tier too. I am trying to get enough credit for the IS-8 but some weekend sale always comes up.

Always, always always use free xp to unlock modules on new tanks, never to get new tanks. If you don't, all you've done is swap playing on a fully upgraded tank for a longer grind on a new stock tank.

Horse power is not a reflection of torque, which would be the heaviest factor of how fast you could push something heavy around. diesel engines, especially ones in heavy equipment, are known for having a strangely low horse power but having massive torque. The difference between equal sized gasoline and Diesel engines, is the diesel engine runs at much lower RPMs, sometimes below 1000, which would be more of an idle speed for a gasoline engine.

No sorry, the M1A3 will be using the same old smoothbored L/44 gun and the same shells : M829A3 which have about 790 mm of penetration. So it will have problems with the T-90 as the shells where designed for T-72's. The T-90 on the other hand have a extra canon if needed, a 152mm AT gun which can and will blow the turret of an Abrams.

i love my IS-3. bought it a couple weeks ago and got the BL-9 asap. now ive got it fully upgraded. if i dont get tshot by arty i usually get at least 3 kills with it. and the gun is a major improvement from IS guns. ive got an 84% hit ratio in my IS-3 :) even better than my T34 which is 80 percent.

This tank is insane, and I can say that from experience, i've played german and russia heavies, along with french and british ones, but damn, this thing is crazy. I played a game where i came up upon 2 lowes 2 super pershings, and 1 t43 and a hellcat, using a corner as cover, and sidescraping I knocked out every one of them, unfortunately we still lost, oh did I mention it was only me and my friend vs all of those guys.
