World of Tanks - M3 Lee Tier 4 Medium Tank - Just Shoot Me.

I finally get around to reviewing the M3 Lee, after playing about three games in it a year ago and using free xp to get to the M4 Sherman. Is it any better than it was a year ago?

Well the m3 had a secondary gun which is a 37mm cannon on the top. It would make it not bad though since you can kill enemies if they are flanking. War thunder has the m3 lee and they have 2 cannons shoot

I went to the m3 lee twice, to get the M4 and the T1, try these tips to make the M3 Lee a bit forgiving. 1.The gun in the right hull can be an advantage, exposing it instead your whole hull in cover would make the tank a sneaky bastard, makes it easier to shoot and return cover and increases survivability. DON'T FIGHT IN COVER THAT REQUIRES YOU TO EXPOSE YOUR LEFT HULL! I see alot of M3 lee tankers doing these (probably new players or new to the tank) if you do this, your'e up for a nasty surprise. 2. Join the medium wolf pack, stay behind, wait until an enemy is spotted, let them get distracted then unleash your excellent DPM at them. Gun depression is good, although get's useless because of the top turret. 3.Top tier, you can carry the game, you can pen a matilda and you can out DPM her if she decided to go toe on toe to you ( although I avoid head on fights to preserve health in the late game). I try to stay in the 2nd line of advance and let my teammates get the attention. 4. Bottom tier, meh...I usually wait until the battle develops so I follow tip # 2, if winning I become a bit aggressive, flanking enemies and shooting their butts when opportunity shows, if losing, meh... try to dish out as much damage until destroyed. 5. Mobility is good, even if you don't have a turret, don't be afraid to flank enemies if opportunity shows. I have to admit, the Lee is a below average medium tank because of it's turretless gun but if it's strength is exploited well, then it "can" be a fun tank. 57% win rate 157 battles. it's not much but I could say the Lee get's the job done.

+Joshua Militar And the unspectacular camo limits its TD capabilities as well. I played it three times, two times in the american tech tree and one time in the british. And I have to say you definitely can make it work, even as low tier. Your tipps are very good, but allow me to add some more. Avoid fighting ridge line battles. You may be tempted to do so, but don´t do it. As soon as your turret sticks over a hill, everyone will turn around and shoot you. In nine of ten cases, you will receive more damage than you deal. It has good gun depression, but you should use it carefully. This is also something you should do in the M3. Trade damage with brain. Do not waste your low amount of hp. If you can not outtrade an enemy, retreat and re-engage under your conditions, not under his. You only have a limited number of strenghts with this tank. Make them count.

I LOVE the M3 Lee, don't know why people say it's bad. I have 2x Mastery in it, 57% Winrate .. pretty decent. I even got my first huge killstreak with it when I only had 100 games back in 2011 - 7 kills on Lakeville and then 6 - twice on the same map. But what I couldn't stand and couldn't deal with ... was the DW2. GOD NO NOOOO See? I still have post-traumatic syndrome from it.

Its too bad WoT nerfed the M3 Lee, because in WW2, 1942 North Africa, the Lee was a very good tank for long range sniping. So if you play this like a TD/Sniper, you will do okay. Even though I played mine just long enough to get my M4 Sherman, I still have my Lee in my Garage. Just remember this is not a front line Brawler.

Colonel Radec The Luchs has a 30mm gun that can pen 90mm of armor, but does very little damage. It'd be interesting to have something like that on top for close engagements, and then have the main gun for sniping or derping things close range with HE. I mean, they'd have to make it HIT things to be used as a sniper-type cannon, but I'm sure they could. Give them both a slightly low ROF and damage to balance 2 guns, and viola, you have an alright tank that can be used for a lot of things.

The M-3 had a 75mm gun, and was fielded at a time when the main german tank, the PzIII had a 37mm. The M-3 also had a 37mm gun which was stabilzed, so it could fire AND HIT on the move.

I love the M3 Lee. People hate it because they don't play it well. I think it has great gun, good mobility, and decent armor (if you don't expose your sides). How i play it would be unusual, play like it is as a medium. Not too many sniping modes but good as being somewhat adaptable for me. Haters gonna hate.

BHuang92 Win rate has nothing to do with how good the tank is. I have a 63% win rate and master ace tanker badge with the churchill I but only a 46% win rate with the kv-1. Does that mean churchill is better? No, it just means I get better teams whenever I decide to play with my churchill. I get alot better dmg ratios, more medals, and better stats with my kv-1. Win rate with a tank doesn't mean that much.

Went back to the M3 Lee when grinding up for the Sherman. I figured that since I had improved since I had played it that the grind wouldn't be as bad as it was to the T1 Heavy. I was doing this since I didn't want to waste the gold to get the remaining free exp to get it. After a couple games in the M3, I went ahead and free exped it. Yeah no. The gold cost to remove the time in the M3 was totally worth it.

I got my first ace mastery badge with this thing last night, in a tier 6 game. It's gun isn't bad, and you can angle the tank behind cover to keep 90% of it hidden while still being able to shoot. The biggest problem is still the size of the hull, though...

It took me a few matches to get used to the Lee, but with the final gun, it made for a good low tier ramming tank. Yeah, the hull lock was weird for being a medium tank, but I found that the frontal armor was very good for being a T4, and it had a gun that I found to penetrate many other tanks. To be honest, this tank is pretty good. It has unarguably the best tier 4 gun that's not a TD or arty. You basically have to stay back in this tank and put that ROF to work, as it is one of the few things that saves you.

If anyone sees this, if they can implement X to alternate between traverse and sniping mode for the Tier X Swedish TD, I think the X key should be implemented to alternate control between the 37mm and 75mm on the M3 Lee.

it's fine, just don't drive it like a heavy. The Lee rewards patient players and punishes players who want to survive based on their own personal skill, rather than based on good tactics and positioning.

It took me over a year to get to M4 SHerman because i played it on and off due to liking Hetzer and Stug much better than M3 Lee. I just got to M4 Sherman about 5 days ago, and just got to M4A3E2 Sherman Jumbo today. M3 Lee has got to be the second worst tank i ever played, with #1 being the French B1 Heavy (fat-ass couch-potatoe) Tank

Matthewultimate jumbo is good, but the easy 8 is totally the best upgrade from the M4. I have a blast every time i drive it. but i guess the jumbo is the way to go if your trying to sneak around the T1 and M6 to get to the T29. Hope thats what you were planning because otherwise you should have got the E8. =)

+evan shankar You made my day :-) I love the AMX 40. I think it is relaxing to keep at least ONE crap tank in my garage and atm it's the AMX 40. Like 2-3 games full of **** , bounces etc., and then RNG lets me have a good game :-) So relaxing driving it. Noone expects you to do anything. And hitting once + bouncing twice gives u an Ace tanker badge ;-)

taintedcream I did 6 kills with the D.W. 2 and 7 with the T57 ... but i don't think this makes them any good. Sure, you can do decent in every tank, but that doesn't mean it's any "good", compared to all the other tanks on the same tier. Even if you use it right, you can be a oneshot from almost every tank with HE rounds.

taintedcream True, but I suppose if you enjoy a challenge(or you're masochistic), then this could also be your dream tank. But LipziG3R is right; being the best M3 player doesn't remove its flaws. For example, no matter how great you are at concealment and using the terrain, you can't make yourself a particularly difficult target to hit with the Lee.

I kinda looked forward to playing the Lee because of my fond memories of the movie Sahara, and almost immediately slapped the "Lulubelle" inscription on it (which for some ridiculous reason goes on the front, when "Lulubelle" was on the sides of the tank in the movie). I ground it to get the Sherman and T1 Heavy; I was fortunate enough to hit this grind on the same weekend when American mediums got 1000 XP for getting a single kill in a match. Even though I didn't intensely hate the Lee, since I was used to paper thin armor and getting outdueled by other tanks from my experiences in the American TD line, and occasionally had the good game when I was top tier (which happened really, REALLY rarely, mind you) I'll readily admit that the easiest enemy to take out (and get that 1000 XP) was another Lee.

That grind felt longer than the grind for the BC 155 (back when it was the 155). I think you'd be wise to buy out. I hate to say this, but while the T110E5 is better than that abomination, it isn't good enough to make up for the anguish you feel driving around in a one shot kill that doesn't truly qualify as a medium.

Charles Lloyd After playing it for a little while, I've actually found that if you play it more like a second line tank destroyer you can do reasonably well in it. The gun isn't great but it's not horrible either for it's tier. You'll never carry a game but I did manage to get a sneaky top gun in it. As long as you stay out of a position where you'd be getting shot it, in my opinion you can get by ok. I'm a dedicated medium player though, and the fact that the lee can't function at all as a medium is what really lets it down. I play it here and there to get the experience, but generally my strategy is to play tanks that I enjoy and can be more effective with, and then use the free experience from those games to help through the harder grinds like the lee.

TarlZaralka Honestly the only thing that really hurts this tank is the design and gun placement. It's just that it's prone to getting into so many situations where the enemy can shoot at you and you're not able to return fire. However you can learn to play around that.

My best match in this tank was a match where I got 5 kills and it was a tier 6 match... And that was one of the only ones if not the only match that was good out of like 70, that it took me to unlock both tanks M4 and T1 heavy...

What good times. Can’t freaking believe I still play this game to this very day! And I’m still trash. But I have fun. This video fills me with nestalgia. Rip lee. My first tier 4 tank. And I destroyed this m4 driver in a training room sooo hard and so many times on a 1v1 that he/she/whatever rage quit! Best memorie for this tank from me.
